“Lovely boutique hotel right in Thamel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2013

1) New small yet cozy boutique hotel smack on Thamel.
2) Very close to all sorts of shops and restaurants
3) Executive hotel room was wonderful and spacious for 2 person
4) Room was clean upon check in and very neat
5) All staffs are very friendly and very helpful especially the 2 young Captains and the lady Asst. Manager.
6) Downside only the towels has stains but its no big deal. I asked for a change and got it at once.

Room Tip: Any room is good there as the hotel is new and rooms are very new and super clean.

Dear Najieb!
Thank you for your wonderful review.
It's a great pleasure to know that you enjoyed your stay.

And separately we want to thank you for the comment you've done on the towels. 3 days ago, after the described situation, we made a decision to change our washing machine and the drying machine and then made 2-days trial laundry.

This is, probably, the most important thing we can have to serve better - to have a feedback. Your advises help us to make our hotel perfect.

The new washing machines are Hitachi, and the drying machines are Beko, so they provide a high quality of laundry.

Warm regards and thank you,
Royal Penguin Boutique Hotel team.

Nepal is a beautiful country but staying there has always been a small challenge as there are always some problems with electricity, good quality wi-fi and hot water in most of the hotels. None of the hotels i stayed before managed to solve all the problems. So i got interested to stay in a brand new boutique hotel in Thamel which claimed to have all of these facilities working 24 hours uninterruptedly. I made no mistake.
Wi-fi was quite fast, hot water was really hot so i could relax in the buthtub for hours and luckily the electricity worked as well (it only stopped for 2-3 seconds several times, but it was ok). Plus it was warm as the air-con works in a heating mode too. The hotel itself looks amazingly beautiful, looks like some good designers took part in creating it.
What i didnt like is that the housekeeper didnt speak english so i couldnt explain her to come at 4 PM so i had to call the manager to tell him first. But everything else i could explain to her using hand language.
Some of the stuff there doesn’t look very experienced, as they are new. But luckily the manager is there to help if there’s any prob.
I would highly recommend to stay there!

Room Tip: The best room seemed to be the Penthouse suite as its the only room which is located on the top floo...

1) Design is really impressive. For me it's important.
2) The gym is not big, but well designed as well and they have about 5-7 training simulators of good quality and sauna and massage.
3) Roof-top park is very unusual - many comfy corners with benches, swing-chairs, big waterfall
4) I have stayed in Executive Suite - it consist of 2 rooms connected with arch. Design is excellent. Different installations on the shelves, beautiful ceiling, big balcony with coffee-table and stools.
5) Huge bathtube!
6) 24 hours - free wi-fi and hor water and power. For Nepal it's rare, alas...
7) Many very beautiful paintings on the walls. It's impressive - like in gallery.
8) Stuff is very polite and helpful.
9) You can choose welcome drink - juice etc. It's not important, of course, but nice.
10) Crazy menu - it's something:) I ordered many flowers in the room and black sheets. It's very unusual.
11) They have double glass windows and the spot itself not in the very noisy center of Thamel, so it's quiet inside. Location is very good in Thamel.

Not good:
1) No lift there.
2) Super-delux room doesn't have balcony
3) They have penthouse in the roof-top park, but only 1, so I didn't have the opportunity to book it on my dates.
4) Night menu is too short, I think.

Overall, I was happy there:)

Room Tip: If you are 3 people - I recommend you not to take super-deluxe but executive or penthouse. It more c...

Thank you for your brilliant review.
We are happy to see that so many things made your stay with us enjoyable.

As to the lift issue: we understand that it might be a disadvantage for some people, so we will do our best to make the elevator in our next hotels.
Please let us know in advance if you want to book penthouse suite on your next trip or if your friends want to stay in it - and we will book it for you.
We updated the night menu and added about 10 dishes, thank you for your valuable advice.
It would be better to have balconies in all kind of rooms, whoch we will consider in our next hotels, so now you can enjoy deluxe or executive rooms, which have big balconies with a nice teak root sitting furniture.

It is a brand new boutique hotel in Thamel. You would never expect to see something like this in Nepal. Brilliant design – very modern, fresh and unique. The lighting everywhere was bright and rich with variations. They have amazing decorations in the lobby and restaurant, beautiful glass installations and paintings in the rooms. I stayed there in December. It was bitter cold outside but pleasantly warm in my room and in the restaurant. Actually, I spent hours in the restaurant eating, reading and looking around.

What I liked the most about this place – all the hotel is completely smoke-free! Nobody would spoil you dinner with a tobacco stink or smoke under your window. Everyday I spent some time in the roof-top garden sitting in the sun by the waterfall or swinging (they have 2 comfy swings), chatting with friends without been disturbed by any smoke. Plants in the roof garden didn’t look so great though. The hotel staff says it’s because they were planted recently. I’ll check in spring.

I was surprised they really have electricity and hot water 24 hours. Very unusual for Thamel. Made my staying there very comfortable. I didn’t like the squeaking door in my room. I asked the staff to make something about it and they fixed the door same day.

I’m already looking forward for the spring when I go trekking with my friends and stay there again. Bzw, they have very interesting choice of extra-services, their 'crazy menu'. One option is “back soon” – you can just pick up yr backpack and go trekking leaving all the rest of yr stuff in the room. They store all the valuables in the safe and other belongings in the storeroom. When you are back, you will find yr things placed exactly where they were before. It’s like you never left - awesome!

Hello, Ju!
Thank you so much for your review.
We appreciate a lot your high estimation and we will do our best to keep the quality on a relevant level.

You are right about the plants - they were recently planted and, so it takes a little time for them to get used to that conditions. By the time you come next time
they will be looking fresh and nice and you can enjoy your stay in Khumbu park.

Warm regards,
Royal Penguin Boutique Hotel team

This hotel looks like something unreal in Nepal – it’s new, clean, warm (in Nepaly winter only in this hotel I feel myself comfortable). My room, lobby and restaurant are amazing – a lot of light, unusual tables, many small and big installations - from tiny glass hedgehogs glued to the mirror, to a huge piece of petrified wood. Especially I like ability to change the lighting in my room – I can use only ceiling’s night illumination, or turn on many ceiling lamps and add more magnificent chandelier. And it seems the only hotel in Nepal where they have a very powerful generator which is used during the electricity shutdowns, what gives 24/7 electricity, A/C heating and hot water .
Staff is polite, and all my wishes was taken into account.
For me was very important smoke-free hotel policy – it really working!
