“Quiet and lovely!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

We enjoyed our stays at Dipankara. Thanks to very caring Lama family and hospitable staff. The place is beautifully maintained and is very clean and comfortable. We stayed at Dipankara twice during our Nepal trip. A very happy experience.

This hotel really brought happiness to our stay in Nepal. It is a family business and they all go out of their ways to provide you with anything you want.

Of course there are power cuts during the night, of course you can't always charge your smartphone, but this is to be found EVERYWHERE in Nepal. And they have arranged for an emergency light in everyroom so you're never in the dark. And if you wish to charge one of your devices, they will charge it for you at the reception. They are the nicest people of all!

I was looking for flower seeds to bring home with me and the hotel manager asked around to get me an address. He provided us with a map and excellent advice to go see Pashupatinath and we were joined by two Chinese ladies from the hotel too. So we ended up making friends and walking around with our new friends for a few hours. Nice!

They have a nice restaurant downstairs with tables in a flowery garden and their momos are better than the ones I had in touristic places.

Our room was bright green and beautiful, I loved it. And we were served massala tea upon arrival. It is a new and small hotel, which is prefect, because they take care of their clients, and they always greet you warmly when they see you.

The hotel is a little hard to find, especially as we arrived after daylight, but we found it nevertheless and we really appreciated the quiet and calm place, just a few hundred meters from the hussle and bussle of the street. And what is more, it's within 3 min distance of the great Bodnath Stupa, which gives you the opportunity to just pop in and go visit early in the morning or late at night, to experience it differently.

So yeah, the hotel is a little out of the way from downtown Kathmandu, but we liked that. We liked that it was quiet and close to the Stupa.

All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. It made our first stay in Nepal fantastic!

If you are sick of the busy and noisy main center of any old towns in Kathmandu, this is quite a good place to stay. We stayed at the studio flat which has kitchen and a dinning room, it was very homey feeling and indeed the owner Mr. Lama is very welcoming and warm. The home has a huge garden and we spent a great time sitting in the garden away from the dust and noise of the main street.

Room Tip: The studio apartment is good if you want are sick of dinning out and want to make some simple meals.

The guesthouse will be difficult to locate without the help of the resident guide Sunny. Travelling in the midst of dirt, dust and chaos, the first impact you lay your eyes on Dipankara when you drive into the driveway was - heaven ! You were greeted by a garden at the front.

The rooms were small and cosy. Clean sheets and great wifi. The power of the hot water were a little small, thus need some patience. The only downside is to return to a room of darkness and no heater (on chilly nights) due to the country daily power cut. Electricity only resumed around 10 to 12 midnight. By than we are in bed. But this little inconvenience was compensated by the warm lovely and charming host Mr Bisan Lama and his staff Sunny. We were always greeted with smile and request were promptly addressed. Their sincerity and ernest in making your stay pleasant can be deeply felt. A hassle free and vacation feel stay.

The holy Boudhanath Stupa were just a 5-10 min way away, and we were often distracted by lots of interesting shops and scenery along the way.

Thank you Mr Bisan and Sunny for making this a delightfully memorable trip for the 5 of us.

Room Tip: If you are travelling in a cold month, ask for a room with less windows so that lesser cold air ente...

Thanks to Mr. Lama and his Staff for the great hospitality. We stayd at his house 2 times during our trip in Nepal and we really felt very welcome all the time we came back. It is a little more expensive than other guesthouses but the Money goes to a children help Project. We def. will stay there again if we come back to kathmandu.

I'll just try to list a few facts so you'll be able to decide whether this place is amazing, fantastic, or simply great for yourselves.

First of all, the most helpful and thoughtful staff I've seen. They are fluent in English, tactful and professional.

Secondary, the private territory with a nice garden—it made me feel relaxed and secure after a day in the noisy and dusty city. And the location is great—10 min walk from the Stupa!

We stayed in the studio on the first floor (I think it was a deluxe room), and that's what we got to enjoy for 20 days:

— A big, home-like room, dark wood, curtains, a carpet and an overall British colonial feel
— Small kitchenette with a fridge, a kettle and a cooker
— A kingsize bed with a feathery duvet and fine sheets—when you see it, you just want to dive in and stay in there for days.
— We were provided with a small bed for our 3-year-old daughter, too
— 24-hour electricity socket for the laptop
— Free Wi-Fi in the room
— Hot shower 24/7 (except for the hours of power cuts)
— TV
— A big dining table and a set of comfortable chairs
— The highest standards of hygiene

Over the time we'd spent there I kept noticing the small details that shown the care and consideration of owners and the personnel. An adorable set of china ware for you to drink your tea with milk in the morning (I've grown unaccustomed to such fine things during our 5-month stay in Nepal), bright lighting in the room to read and draw in the evening, a shower with a hose (haven't seen these in Nepal or India so far), convenient for washing your kid.

However, there is one thing that might be a problem if you plan to visit Dipankara Holiday Home on winter months: windows at our room were not exactly air-proof, so it might get quite a bit cold in this room. But, do ask the owners about this issue—I'm pretty sure they either dealt with it already or do whatever needed to take care of it.

And as for the price—amazingly low for this kind of service. We were charged half of what we would pay for a standard room in some fancy international hotel.

oh, and you can ask for delivery from one of the local cafes—how great is that?!

This is really the best you can do if you're looking for a place in Boudha.

The level of comfort is perfectly European. But the level of friendliness is something quite unprecedented. We've literally been pampered like overgrown babies, showered in gifts, given useful suggestions, and treated to delicious Newari meals (I'm so sorry I couldn't finish that bottle of raksi due to the fact that I'd caught a cold the very last day!).

The garden is something else. If you have children, they'll have an amazing place to play outside, and none of the outlying territory is exposed to the less than salubrious conditions prevalent in that part of the city (take a walk down Jorpati and you'll see what I mean by that).

Should you feel indisposed or just need to stay in bed with a laptop all day for some reason (such as accumulated email, projects, or blog posts), you'll have a cozy room, the cleanest and crispiest bed linen I've encountered in Asia, a 24-hour powered socket that makes you thumb your nose at the so-called "load shedding" as introduced by the incompetent Maoist bureaucracy and have takeaways delivered from one of the best cafes in the area.

Oh, and it takes about five minutes to get to the stupa on foot once you're no longer indisposed.

Really, we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else the next time we're in Kathmandu, and I can't recommend this place enough.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe room. It's mind-bogglingly lovely.
