“Nice rooms and helpful staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2013

Spent a week after a trek. Room are spacious and clean. Breakfast is a buffet with a chef cooking your eggs on demand. Very good. The manager is very nice and his staff is very helpful. We had an early departure for an Everest Flight (before breakfast service) and they fixed us a breakfast box which we picked up at the reception at 5am. In the box was croissants, boiled eggs and fruits an excellent meal.

Room Tip: Air conditioning is available on request, but ceiling fan in other rooms are sufficient for a good n...

There are better hotels in Kathmandu for roughly the same price. The hot water was uncertain, but the room was spacious and clean. Everything looks rather run down as well. It's not too far from Thamel but in a nondescript location. We changed to a different hotel for only $10 per night more and had a much better experience there.

I had traveled with 18 friends in Feb. 2012 to Kathmandu via Chitwan and Pokhara. We had bookings for two night and three days. On the day one itself, I was mad at the hotel staff. The rooms were dirty and there was no hot water and also no power. We were informed that there was no power and the generator had some problem. We had to leave within couple of hours for Everest Plane ride and we left. After three hours also the DG Set was not repaired and only by evening for just 1-2 hours the DG set was switched ON. Food was bad. All cold and tasteless. Will never recommend it to anybody. Its close to Thamel and unfortunately for us, the Kathmandu police had sealed the Thamel area due to law and order problem. Over All bad experience.

Room Tip: Don't go to this place with family.

I stayed at Harati for 3 nights before a trek & pre-booked for 3 more after but left after 1. I could not bear it anymore. On the positive side- it's reasonably close to Thamel shops etc (but many other hotels & guesthouses are in a much better locale), quaint garden in the restaurant, the hotel food was reasonable but not great or cheap, free safe box @ reception & free wifi.

Sadly, the negatives far outway the positives: broken aircon, broken phone, no hot water, broken tv, broken fan, beds as hard as concrete, filthy shower/bath with black mould, electricity limited (yes that's Katmandu but where is the generator?), broken lift etc etc. but by far the worst was the smell of chemicals & the noise of all the construction in the rooms around me, the night roadworks out the front to the right & the hotel being built out the back to the left during the day. The apathetic staff & lack of ability to help with anything like directions makes this dive a no go zone. You can do much much better.

We stayed 3 nights at the Harati hotel on a roundtrip trough Nepal.Lobby & bar are ,let's say "charming" because of the wooden touch,check-in did not take to match time. The staff was allways helpfull to us.The room was spacious with some kind off separation between sitting- and sleeping-corner (paper-wall?),the bed was ok, and air-conditioning was working, however it was to noisy, also because the windows are thin-glassed.The garden was more or less a construction-site and right nearby some building activity was going on, so early morning we were waked-up. During our time here there was never hot water in the bathroom. The food was good;at breakfast really plentyfull (egss, fruit juice, cereals, etc.) at dinnertime we did enjoy the good sized(big) portions. Wi-fi in the lobby and bar was working properly and free off charge. The also give the possibility to leave some off your luggage in consideration, again free off charge. Some renovation would give this hotel the boost it need, because the staff and the food is already very reasonable.

The highlight of the hotel is its location in the middle of Thamel. However, this is where the glory ends - even by Nepali Hotel Standards. I've visited the hotel in the 90s and in 2011 and it's obvious that things got worse. The hotel used to have a nice and big garden but this is completely gone. The rooms have not been renovated recently and it shows. The hotel restaurant should be avoided regarding the much better alternatives nearby. The hotel is Okay for a night or two if you're in Nepal for trekking but for look for something else if you want to enjoy your stay.

We went to Kathmandu on a short 5 day trip and book a hotel online. While reaching there we realized the surrounding was not good and changed our Hotel to Hotel Harati. Harati was much cheaper than the previous hotel and rooms were not comparable (on better side) !! Room service and restaurant food was good however choice were limited . Staff at reception were very courteous. Hotel has WI-Fi connection in the lobby and open space garden. Hotel was overall very neat and clean and liked the way room was done.

Room Tip: Try to take the room on upper floor for a good view, however there is no lift in the hotel ;-)
