“Extremely disappointed”
Reviewed 17 April 2010

Our "superior deluxe" room (701) shared a wall with a metal fabrication shop next door and the racket made the room uninhabitable during the day for anything resembling rest. We canceled the rest of our stay and expressed our disappointment. "Sorry", they said , and immediately re-booked it.

I've stayed on/off at this place for years now and i must say i think its time to do the place up a bit, its stating to look old and tired. The staff are nice (isnt everyone in Nepal?) but for the price you pay its starting to become poor value. We had one room that had no light bulbs in the lamps no shower curtain and dodgy electric sockets everywhere, a bit of upkeep is needed if they want to keep their reputation.

The garden is beautiful and to sit on the roof and watch the world go by is a great way to spend the day, the restaurant serves really good quality food and this does take time but i'd rather wait for good food than to be served poor food quickly.

One major down side which i guess isn't the hotels fault is the clientele it attracts these days.On my last 2 visits it seemed to be 90% senior citizens (i'm getting on a bit my self) but i've never come across so many grumpy people whilst traveling, i lost count of how many complaints i heard about "Talking in the corridor" at 5pm because it was disturbing their afternoon nap or they didnt like to see other guests hanging their washing out to dry! this place isnt the Hilton and travelers will do their own washing(the hotel has no problem with this).
Next time i stay in Kathmandu i will unfortunately look to stay elsewhere (sorry guys).

Planned to stay 3 nigths, left after the 1st one, liked the website and the garden, we paid 37$/nigth including all taxes for a 3 bed deluxe room + extra bed (came with wife and 3 kids). when you pay that price you expect to have decent heat in the room and a powerfull generator to ligth the place up when the power is down ( lots of power outage nowadays in Nepal...). Restaurant was very cold, no place to hide from the cold...
Breakfast were included: those were great if you are at the Everest base camp but very desapointing for Kathmandu... the restaurant and hotel is completly overpriced.

on the positiv side:

-staff very friendly (well, that is easy to get in Nepal!)
-beautifull garden
-quiet location

We moved to the Yanki lodge just accros the tibet lodge in Thamel, for Half the price we got a better room whit decent heating!

If the rooms wouldn't have been a bit dusty (we had to sneeze all the time) I would have rated this hotel excellent. The staff is very friendly and everything is possible here, we could leave our bags here during trekking and could even keep our locker. The garden is very relaxed and it's very nice to have breakfast here. There are two free computers with internet (although not too fast), the shower is nice and hot and the location is perfect. It is 5 minutes walking distance from the heart of Thamel and therefore it is not too noisy.

This was our first time in Kathmandu and we found this guesthouse to be a perfect location while we adjusted to the place. It's on a quiet corner just outside of Thamel (but still close). The garden is a welcome retreat from the bustling streets and handy if you want to grab some tea or food. Our room was clean and spacious and had nice decor - we felt very comfortable. The management were friendly and helpful. We usually had breakfast in the sunny courtyard (service was a bit slow but there was a festival on and they were shortstaffed) but went out for dinner. We felt safe in the area and the door staff are really good at grabbing you a rickshaw/taxi. We will definitely stay here again if we go back.

I stayed several hotel/guest house while I was in Nepal. International Guest House is the best among them.
Public area is beautifully decorated which reminds me of Newar culture.
I didn't have any problem with staff there.

I chose Special Package to stay here.
a) 2 nights at Deluxe room (with bathtub) including breakfast
b) Sightseeing (Patan, Boudhanath and Pashupatinath)
However, entrance fee each place and guide is not included. A driver will just take you there. If there are other guests with the same package, you all have to go together. The tour departs IGH around 10 in the morning.
Also taxi to get back to airport on your depature is not included for this package.
There are 3 choices for Breakfast: American, Continental and International(pancake)

They have hot water shower. Water from tap looks a bit brown, but you are in Nepal, so you should be adjustable.
The location is good enough, but I wish it was more 'IN' Thamel area. I felt that it is a bit outside of the touristy spot. well, still IGH is located in good palce.
You have to walk roughly 20 meters long unpaved path before you reach the main gate, which I don't like. It is very dusty and dim moment.

Room 601 is on the roof top, you can kind of monopolize it even if the roof top is for any guest. You should ask if the room is available when you are in Nepal, but remember, there is no elevator :-D

I choose this hotel after seeing their website. Rate was very attractive and rooms looked very nice. Unfortunately after one night we decided to move to another hotel because of the following reasons:
1. Condition of rooms has nothing to do with pictures on the website. At the beginning they tried to put us in the terrible rooftop room (completely different from superior deluxe which we booked by email) but after my complaint we were moved to proper room more or less similar to the one from pictures. Unfortunately all the rooms in the hotel look tired and desperately scream for renovation. Same applies to bed sheets and towels which are very used.
2. One hour waiting for food in restaurant is standard. Even after this time you can receive unpleasant surprise - in my rice I’ve found three dead bugs. They changed rice but didn’t even apologize.
3. Wi-fi internet is not working in the rooms and is very slow.
4. Restaurant is closing at 9:30.
5. Garden is way too dark. After dusk it is completely dark spot. I requested them to turn on the lights or put some candles but received no response.
6. Way to the hotel leads through dark and very dirty street. In late hours when coming back on foot from thamel it can be thrilling adventure. The neighborhood is also quite noisy given the fact that it is not the central tourist area.
7. It is hard to find rickshaw or taxi on your own in the nearest proximity from the hotel.

Now time for some pros:
1. Free wi-fi internet in the lobby.
2. Front wall of the hotel is quite nice and stylish.
3. Very nice garden during the day.
4. AC in Superior Deluxe rooms.

To sum up
Not so bad place for backpackers and people who are spending most of the time outside the hotel. Unfortunately for me traveling with my family it was big disappointment. I recommend to pay even the double price and upgrade to one of the mid-range hotels in central thamel.
