“An oasis of green and tranquillity!”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Kathmandu is chaotic, noisy, dirty, but alive with friendly people, colour and interest. At the end of a day of sight-seeing or travel, Park Village Hotel is a blissful escape. The grounds are extensive, as is the range of apartment options. Ours was comfortable and air conditioned with a balcony overlooking beautiful gardens full of trees, shrubs, and manicured lawns. We booked through an agency on a deal with upgrade elements. When we arrived, we, nor the reception checked the details, so initially we were not offered what we booked. When we discovered this, they changed our room without any fuss or argument. The meals in the restaurant are good value, so don't worry about 5* prices, they are not. Staff are helpful, and pleasant. As with most hotels in the Indian sub-continent, the room services can be a bit tired. Be prepared for the missing plug, or the very slow supply of warm/hot water to bath or shower

Room Tip: Pay the extra for air-conditioned room as these are newer and better equipped.

A former palace retreat now used to allow visitors to Kathmandu to spend time in a beautiful setting, with a beautiful pool and possibly the best vegetarian buffet I've ever eaten, just delightful! Many room choices and options, the bungalows were very nice, clean, bright and airy. Enjoy the grounds.

Quiet location away from all the hustle and bustle of Thamel. Facilities and surroundings are very soothing. Roads leading to this hotel is rough, however its worth the effort given its serene setting. Nice place to wind down at end of a hectic day. Friendly staff and excellent service.

The Park Village is intimately linked to my family's three and a half years in Nepal: I spent here my first 60 nights or so, and the last one too. We've eaten here more than once, my daughter and her friends have used the pool, my cats have run around in the park, and a good friend has even once found shelter inside its gates, graciously opened by the guards, while a political demonstration outside was turning awry.
With all this sentimental baggage in mind, I'll do my best to be objective. The best thing about the Park Village is its location outside the maddening city, at the foot of the green Shivapuri reserve. And green is the park too, where the hotel's low buildings encircle a lovely tree-lined alley. It is peaceful, quiet, and you can even rent apartments by the week, the month (as we did) or even for longer. The pool is nice and clean, the gym somewhat run down, the food quite repetitive but not bad (be careful and keep to Indian and Chinese dishes, Western cuisine is not their strength), the service always kind if not entirely professional. All in all, a oasis of sorts.

Recently I visited the resort and found it to be a very peaceful place. They have all the required facilities and a well maintained swimming pool. The location of the resort is also excellent. The various accomodations offered are unique in their own. I stayed in Hamilton building and the balcony of rooms on 3rd floor offer spectacular view.

I stayed at the Hamilton Building of Park Village Hotel during my four-day vacation in Nepal. The hotel is best for people who visited Nepal for the plain reason of having a peaceful and relaxing getaway... stepping out from the hustle and bustle of fast-paced city life.

The hotel compound was very quiet. It has a lush greenery, perfect for your daily dose of fresh air. You can also jog around (though I never got the chance to do this because of my tight schedule).

The staff are helpful and friendly too... not to mention very patient with all my questions.

The food was okay, not superb but not bad either. However, I wish they had more traditional Nepali cuisine since there are no other establishments in the area which are suitable for a "food trip". Also, I wish they had more variety for breakfast because they have the same menu every day.

The only disadvantage of staying in the hotel is the road, which was under repair. A 10-minute drive can take as long as 30 minutes, or more. And expect a bumpy ride. But, this is not the hotel's problem. I just wished that the government can fix the problem soon.

Also, if you are looking for some "nightlife", this is not the place because Thamel is where all the parties and actions take place. As I mentioned earlier, the hotel's selling point is the tranquility that it provides to the guests.

This is so beautiful after a basic time in an orphanage, to have a hot shower, beautiful gardens, a swimming pool, good food and luxurious surroundings was just what the doctor ordered. Absolutely loved it.

Room Tip: A little bit away from the hub of Thamel, but.. If what you want is a restful, quiet time then this...
