“Great stay, friendly staff”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

We were given the deluxe room at a very good price and even though it was decorated like a grand parent's living room it was very comfortable indeed. We ate breakfast here every morning served by the lovely Suman who was ever attentive and served with a smile. Chairman was a gracious host always offering us help with anything we wanted to do and then dropping us off at the bus stop, booking our ticket for us and making sure we got on the bus ok, he then left us with a parting gift of a scarf and a very friendly goodbye. I would definitely stay here again as we were treated with real respect and warmth.

I spent 5 nights in this hotel.
The hospitality of the owner, his family and staff is what you expect when you stay in Nepal. Nice and clean rooms and in a quiet street. This is where you want to stay in Kathmandu.
I believe that for this price is an exelent deal.
I would highly recommend this hotel.

Myself and my boyfriend recently stayed at the hotel Florid during our stay in Kathmandu. We liked it so much that we ended up returning 2 more times.
The family that own it are some of the nicest people that I've met. They were always happy to answer any questions we had and told us where to get public transport from and how to walk to the Indian embassy instead of getting a taxi. Also we had to get up very early one morning to get the bus for our Langtang trek and they made sure that there was someone up to make us breakfast which was very nice.

Our first couple of nights we stayed in a room with a shared bathroom. The room was very bright with big windows and a big balcony. The shower was a cold water one but for the price it was fine.
When we returned after trekking we decided to book into a private bathroom which had hot water every time we used it.
The street that it is on is very quiet compared to nearly every other part of Thamel also.

Overall we had a great time and would definitely return there again if we ever go back to Kathmandu.

What friendly welcoming staff!

Good food in the kitchen, cute 70s charm decor rooms with a tranquil garden downstairs and relaxing rooftop.. an ideal place for a first stay..

Highly reccomend this hotel especially if its your first time in kathmandu, central with all amenities outside your doorstep, and at an affordable price depending on your budget.

Room Tip: if you want excercise, stay on the higher levels, the stairs will help be your training for any trek...

Just remember that this is Kathmandu and not a central European City, just returned from spending several nights at Hoel florid before and after trekking. The hotel is on Z Street whuich is in the centre of Thamel but it is a cul de sac so no through traffic which makes it very quiet. The hotel is run by a family who are warm and friendly. They have a garden restaurant which serves good food at a good price a great location to eat. Kathmandu suffers from numerous power cuts so you need to be organised but we always had generator electric till 2300 hrs.Hot water is heated by solar power which means a limited supply once again be organised and shower early. Would definatly stay hre agian. Anthony

This hotel is overall a great budget option in the Thamel district of Kathmandu. My husband and I stayed on 2 separate occasions and had the same room both times, but we are aware that we had one of the bigger rooms (402). I believe that all of the -02 rooms are larger with ensuite bath. Other rooms are smaller and some share a common toilet. Our room had a separate sitting area and was a corner room with a view of the garden restaurant on one side. It was not too cold in April, so closing the windows at night kept the chill out. We did have a nice warm blanket on our bed. Breakfast was fantastic and the lovely garden restaurant is like a little oasis in Kathmandu!

The family who own this hotel were very helpful and kind. They went out of their way to make us breakfast on our early departure and allowed us a late check out for a small fee. They were always ready with lively conversation as well!

The power was a bit annoying, but the hotel owns a generator which runs a few lights in your room when the power is out. My only wish would be that they could find a way to keep the Wifi working throughout the day as by the time 9am rolled around the power was usually cut along with the WiFi.

Overall, I'd recommend!

I read some reviews and decided to stay at this nightmare place but it was the worst experience I have ever had in all my journeys across Asia.

First the hotel staff did not want to change us any money (nepali rupees) to pay the taxi driver as we had only large nominals and they insisted we pay the taxi driver more than agreed with the driver.

Secondly the rooms are a disaster - dirty, loud, and dark.
There is no hot water and backup light in the room in case of often power cuts.

Thirdly the hotel is located in a noisy neighborhood.

The last point: it was very cold in the hotel (did not experience this in the other hotel we moved to)

On the plus side the breakfast was tasty, but If you decide for he option room + breakfast, you would be better off ordering the food separately.

The garden is nice, and the place is conveniently located but overall experience was very bad. We moved to a hotel just 200m away and it was so much better!

First and foremost, we are a budget hotel run by a family. We do not have a separate counter for exchange of money but we do provide Nepalese equivalents upon availability and request of our guests. The case mentioned is very exceptional.

Regarding power back ups, the hotel provides electricity through generator until 11 o'clock at night. It is however, not used during the day due to clear visibility.

As mentioned earlier, we are a budget hotel. We do not provide 24 hours running hot water service.

As for coldness at night, we provide quilts upon requests of our guests. So,coldness is manageable at Hotel Florid.

Our sincere apologies for the inconveniences.
