Reviewed 31 March 2013

This is my second time to stay at here. This hotel has everything which i want.Good location, quiet place but not far from Thamel, good room, beautiful courtyard and most important thing is manager (mr.Ram) and his staff (including trekking guide mr.Sital and porter mr.Shiva) are always smiling, friendly, helpful & accommodating. Dhanyabad(thank you) for everything. We look forward to visiting again, overall I'd recommend this hotel.

Good location, walking distance to Thamel. Rooms ok for the price. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our kids, 6 and 9, liked to play outside and there was always someone from the staff to play with them! Hot water always available. The food is really good. We did try many options on the menu and it was always very good and fresh. Wifi not always available and weak signal but we don't expect fast wifi in Nepal so it was ok for us. We really had a good stay at Blue Horizon Hotel!

I have just returned from Katmandu, staying at this hotel twice, found the rooms great for the price, central location, food was good, the Tour Manager Ram was very helpful, booking my Domestic flights, and a local tour. All the staff were very helpful, money change, what more do you want, I found wi if slow everywhere, plenty of Internet shops in Thamel.
Most hotels in Asia only offer a pick up from the airport not a return. Would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: There is a new wing but more expensive, noisy at the back of hotel at the moment due to construction...

Good location, walking to Thamel and downtown. The room is very basic, try to get a room on the main building, in ours the WIFI wasn't strong enough. The electricity is terrible in the city and the power generator was turned off at night. It was -3 C without heat and with two small children. Staff not very friendly, as Hotels.com stated, they will pick you up at the airport, what they don't tell you is that the return is charged at a very expensive rate.

Just returned from 8 days in Nepal where my base was at the Blue Horizon in Katmandhu. An excellent hotel in a quiet street just off Thamel (tourist based area of Katmandhu). Excellent value for money, th staff were very appreciative and went out of thier way to make you feel welcome. Food and especially the Nepali tea taken in their courtyard garden was exquisit and a welcome break after daily sightseeing and trekking. Special thanks to Mr Ram who planned and executed all my trips to perfection and also additional travel in Pokhara. Roll on October to revisit and this tiome with the wife

Room Tip: try and obtain a room in the New Block

It all depends on what you expect and with what you compare it.

This hotel provided us with everything we needed for our 10 day trip to Kathmandu. Trust us, we had business in Kathmandu, otherwise no sane person stays in Kathmandu for 10 days!

Our room, G5, was a suite...that was more of a slightly bigger room than a suite. For the price, it didn't really matter. The size was ok, with a double bed a sofa, a coffee table and a closet. The bathroom was rather book and had a normal toilet as well as a shower/bathtub.

This is our experience in detail:
- Clean. The cleaning ladies were on their hands and knees and it showed. Our room was and felt clean enough, even the bathroom. That was a huge bonus after full days in dirty Kathmandu.
- Safe. Although the alley down from the main road is very dark at night it never felt unsafe. The hotel itself didn't give us any reason to doubt their ethical standards and we felt quite ok with leaving our room unattended overnight as we went on a 24-hour trip.
- Location was ok. If you want a hotel in "downtown" Kathmandu close to Thamel (the tourist area) than this was fine. There is a "party venue" close-by that definitely disturbs the peace, but we didn't experience anything severe during our stay (mid feb). Lots of food places around, as well as the Thamel district with all its, ahem, charm.

What we didn't like:
- Although several emails verified that somebody would pick us up at the airport, no one did. If you are a first time visitor to Nepal, this can be very discomforting as the airport is rather chaotic and the "taxi drivers" outside the airport are pretty annoying. For us, it turned out ok but we have been here before. This was a major "fail" in our eyes. Others have had the same experience, although it might be better if you arrive during daytime hours.

Other:
- Yes, they had a "talk" with us about selling trekking packages and what not. Once they got the point that we weren't interested, they stopped.
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- We only had breakfast at the hotel but it was fine and didn't make us sick. Score!
- No hidden fees or tricks at checkout. Just paid for the breakfast, with receipts, and left.

Would we stay here again? Not sure. There is nothing wrong with the hotel but to be honest, we don't know if any hotel in Kathmandu leaves a "can't wait to get back" feeling. We also stayed at the Crowne Plaza for a night due to a cancelled flight...and although nice it also felt rather pathetic to be in a walled-in compound with huge metal gates. Seriously, we get that Kathmandu is a pit for most people, but come on! It's not Kabul.

So, if you pick this hotel you will get a safe and clean hotel with friendly staff and lots of hot water for the shower. That is truly a huge bonus. The Wifi is so-so and the generator that kicks in for electricity is loud...but hey, this is Kathmandu. What did you expect? Peace and quiet?

Just remember, NEVER use the public bathroom for non-guests!

Room Tip: G5 was decent although Wifi was sporadic...at best.

My stay here didn't get off to a good start when the pre arranged airport pick up which had been confirmed by the hotel management failed to show up. Also the de luxe room which i had booked on line 2 months previously didn't look anything like the picture. I asked to be moved and was told they could move me to a better room the next day. They did but the room certainly wasn't what I would describe as de luxe. On a positive note the hotel is really quiet due to it being at the top of a lane and is very close to the Garden of Dreams which is a lovely tranquil place to while away a few hours. The hotel garden is also a nice place to have breakfast

Room Tip: Book one in the new annexe
