the location of the hotel is excellent. i stayed in this hotel for first time in 2012....and i am advising my friends to book this hotel for best service. the staffs are very friendly . the reception is also very friendly. i don't know how one can say that the reception is very poor however i got the best services from the reception. the free wi-fi service also attracted me. after all it was a joy to stay with them.

Me and my friend stayed here in february 2012. We booked a luxury room, but when we arrived we found out we got upgraded to the suite (for free). The room was huge, clean and light. It's a short walk to the centre of Thamel. The staff is helpfull and there is a garden where you can have breakfast or a drink. This place is a great value for money.

I stayed at this hotel for the first time in 2011, and have now booked to stay again in June 2012. The staff were friendly, my room was very clean, I am vegan, and had no problem getting fine meals in the restaurant. It was a joy to stay with them, and I was sad to leave, as they made me feel so welcome.

We made Ganesh Himal our home base while in Kathmandu, where we stayed twice for a total of 6 nights. Particularly the standard rooms offer very good value for money. The hotel is well situated just next to all the tourist shops, restaurants and bars of Thamel, however in calmer setting. It is also only a short walk away from Kathmandu's Durbar square.
The security guards and staff are very friendly, and the hotel's electricity generators provide light for the street outside also when there is a power cut. The hotel offers free airport pick-up. You can also book your bus tickets and arrange for organized tours in the hotel, however you will most probably find cheaper options looking around a little in the numerous travel agencies around Thamel.
In its backyard the hotel has a nice and quiet garden where you can take a break from the noisy city centre. The hotel also has a restaurant, however we opted for eating out most of the times as there are so many good and affordable options just nearby.
The hotel has a few computers where internet can be used for free, as well as a free Wifi connection. During our second stay, however, the Wifi signal in our room was rather weak. In addition, electricity plugs in our room did not work while the hotel's power was running on its generators.

Room Tip: The rate for a standard room is much better, and the only thing the deluxe room offers you in additi...

I have only positive memories of this place; they picked me up from the airport, were extremely welcoming, and the general atmosphere of the place was cheerful. There's a lovely garden. The room was pretty big, and there were plenty of warm blankets (it got cold at night). There were several computers that you could use for free. I had two vegetarian meals there and both were very good, and well-priced.

Found this in our guide book and decided to give it a go.. Excellent! Rooms are nice, food from restaurant is relatively cheap and the garden quiet (Though they do a have a large generator to keep the power on during the cuts) Prices were reasonable ($19 + taxes). Get one of the rear facing if you don't like street noise. Barking dogs are the usual nightly problem but that's not the hotels fault. Staff are very friendly.

Room Tip: rooms toward the rear and off building corners are quieter

We stayed five nights at the Ganesh Himal in February 2012.
As a family of four with two visiting grandparents, we found that the hotel satisfied all our needs and excelled our expectations in a number of ways. The rooms were very clean and cosy, and supplied with a heater {which worked 24 hours in spite of the power cuts}, hot-water bottles {on demand}, flashlights, a laundry bag and phone.
The shower had piping hot water in the mornings and late afternoons, {Heat, it's true, is an issue in Kathmandu in the winter}. There is free wi-fi in the main building, and a number of computers for free internet use. The atmosphere and decor is great; the staff are friendly and happy and always ready to oblige. The restaurant is good, and reasonably priced. There are free water bottle refills, an environmental bonus. From the rooftop you can see Swayambhu clearly, and the Himalayas on a clear day. The garden is green and relaxing with newspapers set out for reading. The hotel is ideally located in a quiet little street near enough to Thamel to take advantage of the restaurants {5 minutes walking}, but away from all the hassle. Of the hotel's two buildings, I would recommend the old main building where the reception is. The rooms at the back of the new building face a field which noisy dogs seem to frequent at night. There are few mosquitos in Kathmandu, and we didn't notice any at this hotel. There were no problems with the pre-arranged airport pick-up, which was quite late at night. The hotel also arranged our transportation to Pokhara at reasonable cost. The rooms are well priced, and the management is willing to negotiate for longer stays.
After three months of hotels and guesthouses in India and Nepal, the Ganesh Himal ranks as the best yet.

Room Tip: "The Rooms at the back of the new building are more noisy" "Rooftop is only in the o...
