“Good Location/Facilities, Lovely Family”
Reviewed 23 October 2013

4.5 stars

Pushpa Guest House is just a short ways off of the main strip of Pokhara's lakeside neighborhood , meaning it's a few minutes walking from restaurants and shopping. The rooms themselves are clean, and the beds are comfortable. Prices are good.

The gentleman who runs Pushpa is quite helpful with booking activities, and will allow you to leave your belongings with him for storage if you are going to be gone a few days. He has a charming family, and two adorable children named "Prince" and "Princess." Yup, pretty cute.

There was some confusion over confirmation if you reserve online with Hostel World. I would send an email shortly before you arrive just to make sure your booking is set. We were able to have rooms, but they were slightly different than the ones we had reserved. It was also peak tourist season, so this may not be an issue in other seasons.

Safe, clean, pleasant and a good location: I would happily return.

It is good value for money. We have stayed 2 nights before our trek in a standard twin room (900Rs.) and 2 nights after the trek in a superior double room (1200Rs.), only option available at the selected dates.
The guesthouse is very well situated in center lakeside, in a quiet street, close to the Phewa lake and a million of restaurants and shops; it has a nice garden, offer laudry service (100 Rs. a kilo), free wifi (upon request) and a restaurant service that we haven't tested. Both the room and the attached bathroom are pretty nice and clean. There is a fan, which is great. We haven't seen any difference between the twin standard and the superior double rooms (except for the double vs. twin beds, easy to put together), so imho no need to pay more to get the same.
The guesthouse is owned by a nice family; the owner is extremly welcoming and has made a whole speach on how we are a family to him and he has to take care of us etc at our arrival. But in our case, as soon as he has understood that we will not book our trek (nor taxis, buses, meals, laundries...) with him, he has become perfectly careless, sometimes even almost rude to us. By the way, you can find on Tripadvisor a terrible comment on a certain Iceland Guesthouse in Pokhara, where one of the guests has been verbally agressed by the owner. You should probably know that Iceland is the former name of the Pushpa guesthouse.
To sum up, our advice would be: enjoy your stay in this cheap and nice guesthouse, and just don't be surprised if the consideration of the staff varies function of your consumption above the accomodation bill.

I stayed at this very good guesthouse based on reviews here and on hw. Needless to say Raj offers good value for the moneyand a good product. I would encourage a slightly upmarket move.

Clean room, no bugs, sheets clean, for the price it's what you can expect.

Pokhara is a great city and Pushpa is the place to stay. The family atmosphere makes you feel at home immediately. It is perfectly situated, only a short walk from everything you need but is quiet so you can get a good nights sleep. The rooms are basic but very clean and with everything you need. The Wi-Fi works in our room and we were the furthest away from the office. Raj and his adorable family are so friendly and welcoming, we even got to celebrate a family festival with them and their two gorgeous children. When we come back to Pokhara we will definitely stay here and I recommend that you do too. Rooms are a bargain as well, we had a deluxe room for only £8.00 a night, and the laundry is a great service!

Room Tip: Deluxe room was really nice, so good to have an en suite at a bargain price

Pushpa Guesthouse in Pokhara was the best place we stayed in in Nepal. There are so many reasons for this, including:

1. The location - Pushpa is right in the middle of Pokhara, and yet it's down a little side street off the main road that enables you to get some peace and quiet at night. If you're at all lost, it's down a little street with a restaurant called 'Once Upon a Time' out the front (although there's two of those in Pokhara), as well as a big tree with a cement casing.

2. The price - for the equivalent of $3/$4 a night each for the season we were there in, it was an amazing price.

3. The rooms - they are neat, tidy, large, the beds are comfy, and the hot and cold showers are great. Also western toilets, if that's a concern. There are only fans, but with the power outages in Nepal, it's not really worth paying for air-con.

4. The wifi - there is great, consistent wifi that is strong even in your room.

5. And most importantly - The management - Raj and his family are the epitome of Nepali hospitality. They will bend over backwards to help you with anything. Raj was also very fair and honest in the prices that he quoted. They are also not pushy about organising things like treks for you. We already had a guide lined up for a trek, which we had organised before we came to Nepal (although Raj can help you out with this if you need help), and rather than trying to convince us into something else, Raj was totally fine and didn't push it at all. So relaxed!

Overall, Pushpa is the place to stay, although you'd be wise to book in advance in peak season to avoid disappointment.

Pushpa Guesthouse is rapidly emerging as one of Pokhara's best guesthouses - and deservedly so!

The guesthouse is a family run business headed by the constantly smiling Raj Ojha. For $6.60 and $8.80 (including the 10% tax) you get a simple and spotlessly clean double room with shared or en suite bathroom and a fan (although it can get quite hot and humid in Nepal, it really is not worth getting a air-con room due to the daily black-outs that occur). This truly is by definition great value for money, the Wi-Fi is strong and can be comfortably used in your room.

Moreover, Raj and his family are the epitome of Nepalese hospitality and are willing to bend over backwards to make your stay as comfortable as possible (if not embarrassingly so). Raj helped my girlfriend and I organise our Indian Visa's (with no commission), our tour to Chitwan National Park (he also offered the best price at $70 for 3 days 2 nights, including transport), stored our bags on three separate occasions whilst we left to go trekking and just simply was honest with all of his prices and advice.

I could not recommend this gem highly enough, our stay at Pushpa made our already amazing time in Nepal just that much better - the icing on the sundae so to speak.

Word of advice:- In peak season, I strongly suggest you book ahead, for as I said it is a small place and room availability is scarce!!
