“Great Location”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

This was a lovely place, with lovely friendly staff. It was located right overlooking the river and the food was very nice - the porridge at breakfast was lush. The rooms were quite damp, but we learned that we were the first tour of the new year, and presumably they had been closed up for a while. They smelled very musty, but once you opened the door and windows and put the towels out to air, they weren't too bad. Also the very welcome hot water bottle did help us sleep (along with the bottle of wine!)
The elephant safari was wonderful, we saw rhino and spotted deer, although it was very misty and quite cold as we set off before breakfast in the dark! My highlight was later in the day when we were taken for a bird watching walk to the river and they brought an elephant down to the river to wash, and we were able to have photos up close, and even sitting on its knee!
We had a boat trip to see a crocodile farm, but unfortunately everyone stood up all together on one boat, and one poor lady fell into the river - needless to say from then on they made sure everyone got up one by one on any of the boat rides!
We also went to see a village by ox cart, and this was fascinating, seeing how the people lived and we took gifts for the children, we took crayons, and to see their little faces light up was amazing. Later on some girls from the village came to dance and sing for us. The couple of days finished off with a slide show, which was very entertaining.

We enjoyed a 2-night stay here as part of tour of Northern India and Nepal. The accommodation is rustic and the bedrooms are quite cold in December. When you return from supper to your room, you find a very welcome hot water bottle in your bed. The buffet food in the restaurant is absolutely fine and quite varied. It includes a main meat dish and jacket potatoes, freshly cooked vegetables, as well as some Indian fare. We went on an elephant-back safari, which was a good experience - travelling through the misty forest to see Indian rhino and two types of deer. It was, however, very uncomfortable with four people wedged into a bamboo frame that would have been slightly cramped for two people! The dining room sports a roaring log fire and from the balcony outside you have a splendid vista of the river and the national forest behind it. The management put on a good series of activities, such as a bird-watching walk, a slide show of the animals in the park, a trip by canoe to visit a gharial (narrow-nosed fish-eating crocodile) farm. We also visited a Tharu village by ox-cart and enjoyed a better than expected dance display by the Tharu villagers back at the hotel. So, there are no pretensions of grandeur here but you can expect to have an enjoyable time.

Room Tip: The rooms are in three blocks, one of which is a fair walk from the restaurant. Prefer another black...

Stayed for two nights in 2011.It's the third time I've visited Chitwan: previous visits included a resort that unfortunately seems nowadays to be short of wild-life, and another esort that I would not dream of using again.

Great location overlooking the Rapti river - there's something wondrous about drinking early morning coffee on the terrace whilst watching a rhino in the river !

The bungalows are perfectly adequate, the bar / restaurant area, and its terrace, are very pleasant, and the food was good. The programme of activities was varied, and the pace of them quite leisurely so that you had time to enjoy the delights of just being there. Unlike some of the resorts they keep their own 'fleet' of elephants. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly.

I plan to return there in 2013

Stayed here for two nights in early March 2012. As suggested in the title, it was basic but after a succession of 5 star hotels in northern India and central Nepal, it made a welcome change.

The accommodation is in semi-detached chalets, which are clean, but the 'join' is via the bathrooms, which have little in the way of soundproofing between them. There is only hot water for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening.

Food was pretty good, buffet for all meals. There is also a well stocked bar. As someone else said, hot water bottles in the beds at night time.

There are elephant safaris across the river into Chitwan National park where we saw rhinos, deer and crocodiles. We also did a dug out canoe journey downstream to a crocodile farm and travelled by ox-cart to a local Tharu village. The village girls perform at the hotel in the evenings.

This hotel is on the river across from Chitwan National Park. Buffet breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are available on-site. Rooms are standard with windows on two sides. Tours can be arranged which include elephant rides. Tharu Dancers perform at night. The added touch was a hot-water bottle placed in the beds on cool nights.
