“Underrated and packed night market”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 December 2012

Garden Night Market in Tainan seems to be one of the more underrated night markets in Taiwan, with Shilin Night Market in Taipei taking the lion's share of many tourists' attention. It is fully outdoor and is really huge for a night market, as the carts are mobile. Don't bother going anywhere else in Tainan to take your dinner, THIS is definitely the place to fill your stomach. With so many different variety of foods like the milkshakes, meat skewers and even Mongolian-style food, it would be best to take it easy and perhaps order one of each type of food so that you can try the all. If food's not enough, there's still plenty of clothing stalls to go around. There's also a few game stalls where you can shoot BB guns at balloons for fun to win some prizes.

We spent at least 2 to 3 hours in the night market given its huge size, and it can get very crowded after 7.30pm such that you can only walk with the flow of the crowd. There's a taxi stand outside the night market for you to get a taxi easily once you're done with the night market. Do take note that the night market is only open on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and it also may not open if the weather rains so do plan accordingly. Comes highly recommended.

“Food and Game Extravaganza under the Stars!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2012

Tainan Flower Garden Night Market is the biggest and the BEST night market in Taiwan--take it from a senior contributor of TripAdvisor. It has over probably 300 vendors. The food is amazing with lots of great games too. Go with an empty stomach and ready to be entertained. A wonderful place for locals to take their entire family to enjoy a relaxing outdoor extravaganza under the stars! Yes, it's crowded, but it's so much fun that I did not even remember the crowdedness. Oh, enjoy and I wish I could go to Flower Garden Night Market every time I go to Taiwan.

TripAdvisor needs more reviews by people who really knows the towns and countries which will draw more people who wish to visit less touristy places like the Flower Garden night market.

“Very Impressive, Very Crowded”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2012

This was a really impressive night market, with a lot of good eating. There are three long rows dedicated to just food, while much of the rest is clothing (as seems typical for a Taiwan night market).

I believe it only runs three nights a week (other markets run on other nights). We were there on a Thursday. We arrived around 7:30, and by about 8pm the crowd was so thick that you really had to move with the flow.

Food was great. One note -- you read a lot about "coffin bread" as a specialty of Tainan night markets, but I only found one vendor selling it.

There is a taxi stand right outside the market, so it's easy to get a taxi back to your hotel after you are done.

“A Eating Bonanza and Cultural Experience Not to be Missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2012

Taipei's Shi Lin night market is well-known to many visitors to Taiwan, but in fact, I believe the Garden night market in Tainan is even more interesting. It is completely outdoor, and HUGE! We walked from one end to another when we first arrived, checking out all the food stalls and noting all the yummies we wanted to try. There were 4 of us, and our strategy was to buy one order of each thing to share, so that we could try as many items as possible. We ended up trying 16 different "dishes". All were simply scrumptious!! But we had a few favorites. The oysters grilled on a rack was absolutely heavenly!! While the line wasn't particularly long, we had to wait about 10 minutes because of the slow process. That was one item we kind of felt like we should have ordered double-portion and we would have ordered another if not for the wait and the fact that we still had many other items to sample. Another stall we'd recommend was one grilling what was advertized as steaks from Australian. It was done just as we had ordered, while not thick (about 3/4 inch), it was full of flavor and juicy, really delicious!! There was also one selling salted fried mushrooms that was amongst the top for us. There were different types of mushrooms one could choose; we chose a mix and they were all fabulous. At the end, my son decided that, even though he was already full, he had to try the one stall where everyone sitting on the long benches seemed to be enjoying the huge pile of food. His order came with a piece of steak on the side of a plate of udon noodles topped with a fried egg, all for the equivalent of US$5! The entire dinner for 4, plus desserts, drinks, and fruits to go, came to US$30! A word of warning: it was pretty crowded, which added to the festive mood we were in, but we were there during "cooler" season (temp around 75F/24C). I imagine it would probably be unbearably hot with the big crowd and all the cooking going on during summer months. So, if you can make it there during cooler time, I'd highly recommend giving it a try. Garden night market only opens on certain nights so check with your hotel when making booking. We changed our plan to go on a Wed to Thurs. There are other night markets open on other nights, but Garden is the largest one.

“Very happening night market”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2011

This is so far the most crowded and big night market that I've went in Taiwan. It was located in Tainan City center and it occupies a large area with different stalls from food to clothing, accessories each.

Do not have your dinner else where, you must go here and try all the special Tainan snack food that you can get here. Of course you need to be prepared as this night market is so crowded with people. You'll easily spend around 2-3 hours looking and surfing around this night market.
