“Little of interest in English”
Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

When I went it was worthless for a tourist, if you speak Chinese maybe it's great. From my perspective it was just a bunch of books in display cases.

“A contemporary European building”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

A neoclassical building build by the Japanese in 1916, is used to be the old Tainan Prefecture Hall. The building is worth checking out for its architecture, but also exhibits the literary arts of modern Taiwanese. The English description is few and incomplete in most exhibitions, but the English audio tour is available. The Museum is closed on Monday, and open from 9am to 6pm (weekdays) & 9am to 9pm (weekend) . I am not a fan of modern literature but interested in its architecture and the Fire hall adjacent the museum.

“a beautifully renovated building.”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

i love museum and historical building. so when i read about a museum of literature housed inside a historical building, i was very excited. the building itself was beautifully renovated. loved walking through the different areas in the main space and saw how the original and new elements blended into one another. however the museum content was mostly in chinese which i think is great if you can understand chinese. otherwise it would be a 30min stroll and you're done. i hope they have more english translation in the future.

This is a nice place to come and see the exhibits. Its free. There are also some great pictures of old Tainan. Its in the cultural zone so its easy to get to. You dont need much time here.

“Japanese colonial architecture”
Reviewed 17 August 2012

Admittedly, I'm not a fan of Taiwanese literature. For me, the treat of this visit was the Japanese architecture involved, so typical of the Japanese style from Meiji to 1945-both in Japan & in its empire (and I'm not passing judgement in any way on the pros & cons of Japanese imperialism). Relatively speaking, a magnificent building (restored) with one interesting exhibit: a Japanese film presentation that fluctuated between propaganda & travelogue: "Japanese life in Taiwan is wonderful!" In front of the screen is a very old motorcycle. For the life of me, I could not identify its DOM, make or model.
