“Hot spring is the only draw”
Reviewed 6 December 2011

Hot spring triple double (3x double beds) room is very spacious but pretty basic in facilities. Room is L shaped. One side of the L is pretty bare. Only 1 free electrical socket in the big room. Had to pull out the fridge and tv (still an old small CRT type in comparison to big flat screens you get nowadays, even in cheaper hotels) plugs and take turns to charge our phones, computers and camera batteries. Interior walls were plain metal panels, probably metal for insulation because the room comes with its own private hot spring bath. Aircon temperatures can't be adjusted, just fan speeds. With the same fan speed set for the 2 nights stayed, it was too cold on night 1 yet slightly to the warm side on night 2. Each of the 3 beds' mattresses were configured differently - soft, medium and hard. Pillow cases, sheets and towels were pretty dusty, had dirt marks but had no funny smells. There are separate water pipes in the bath, one for regular tap water (for showering) and the other, to fill your hot spring bath.. though the hot spring water isn't always hot immediately and you may need to run it for quite a while. Room provides 2 complimentary bottles of bottled water per guest. There is also free wifi. The room we got was near the lift lobby and could get very noisy when chattering guests walked by or waited for the lifts. Breakfast was average, serving mostly chinese fare (salty, fried or stir fried dishes mostly, to accompany plain congee and mantou, a steamed bun/bread). There were several chinese tour groups staying there at that time, which might explain the chinese fare. There was a dedicated vegetarian spread and a small western one (basically toast with your choice of sugared spreads - even the peanut butter is sugary sweet). Did not try the public hot spring as we had our own private one. The hotel is about a 10 mins' walk to the nearest MRT station (Xinbeitou) via a straightforward road and footpath and roughly 40 mins to the main central train station. Situated in a quiet area with a nice garden/park to enjoy.

Room Tip: Rooms further away from the lift lobby are quieter.

The rooms are very basic and nothing to look forward too. The doors are made of steel or somerthing metallic. The breakfast is really not as I would have expected as they seem to cater to koreans and japanese style food which has lots of cold and sour condiments something like kimchi etc. I could only take in the breads but funny thing about taiwan, they do not serve jams or butter just margarine.....As for the spa, it was a liberating experience for me since this is the first time that I am trying a naked spa. As for the shower cap that they insist that we take from the hotel room, I could not figure what that was all about butnwas told that it was to ensure that we were identified as hotel guests sincee we came in with the hotel shower cap.

Room Tip: choose a higher floor

Service is pretty poor, especially in the Spa.  If you are not looking for anything special then this is okay.

The staff seems to have preferential treatment for Japanese visitors- and rude to everyone else.  The staff in the spa is not only unhelpful, but extremely rude.  She needed us to wear a shower cap so that it looks good to the Japanese visitors (which were her exact words), and when requested for the shower cap we were told to get this from our rooms.  The shower cap is not even a compulsory requirement- we have been into the spa on the previous night and were not ask of this, and as we were leaving there were even visitors going into the hot spring with their clothes on and not rinsing prior to entering the spa (when it is compulsory to be naked and washed before going into the spa)!  What would she have done if people actually paid to come to use the Spa only? Turn their paying customers away because they are not wearing a shower cap? When we eventually got in, it turns out that most people were not wearing a shower cap and the staff had no idea of this.  When we challenged her, the woman told everyone they must put shower caps on and remove all items of clothing whilst in spa because WE complained!

So all in all, the price is ok, the room is ok (but basic), but the service is extremely poor.  The supposedly relaxing experience in the spa turned into somewhat a blood boiling experience.  I certainly would not return to this hotel again, but I think this hotel would be okay if you are able to lower your expectation to absolutely nothing.
