We booked a 4D3N package through Cathay Pacific Holidays and chose Hotel Eclat because it was A, the package options TOP hotel; B, it was going to be my birthday and I wanted a 'nice' hotel; C, we like anything FRENCH, and; D, the Tripadvisor reviews. We like to try different modes of transport where ever we go so we took an Airport Bus from Taipei International airport (TPE) and got off at the Howard Plaza hotel (no stop at the Eclat and we were told this when we purchased our bus ticket at TPE). From the Howard Plaza it was a 10 minute walk to the Hotel Eclat. At the hotel we were greeted at the door and ushered to the reception where we were efficiently checked in. The same front office staff showed us up to the room and gave us a demo on how all the gadgets worked because the room seriously has everything and opens and shuts, everything is electric down to the toilet seat lid! The hotel is an ART hotel so there are sculptures and painting everywhere. It's workwhile stopping the lift at every floor just to check out the paintings! We left the hotel to check out Taipei and as it was drizzling we were offered a 'dry' umbrella, compared to an already 'wet' one, by the doorman which was a nice gesture and something I had never thought of. When we returned to the hotel in the evening the bed had been turned down, slippers laid out, and a taiwanese cake left on our pillow. We also had a call from a young man wanting to know if the fresh fruit in our room needed replenishing! Great night sleep; great mattress, great doona, OK pillows.
Breakfast; your choice of eggs cooked western style, or a taiwanese breakfast. Eggs benedict were impressive. In addition, an adequate selection from the buffet of western or taiwanese dishes (NOT a massive buffet but very sufficient). Forget the usual old white crockery, all the crockery was 'Royal Albert', definately something different. Nice coffee too. One of the days during our stay at the Eclat was my birthday. When we returned in the evening from a long day out, what should I find but a bottle of Red wine, two glasses and a hand sketched and written birthday card signed by the hotel front office staff, OMG. WOW! All the staff we encountered spoke very good english and were up with directions to all we needed to see in TPE. The hotel is about 2 large blocks (10-15 minute walk) from the MRT in two directions. There is a bus right around the corner of the hotel which will take you to Taipei 101 in about 5 minutes or so. Check out at the hotel was equally as smooth as checkin.
