We booked a 4D3N package through Cathay Pacific Holidays and chose Hotel Eclat because it was A, the package options TOP hotel; B, it was going to be my birthday and I wanted a 'nice' hotel; C, we like anything FRENCH, and; D, the Tripadvisor reviews. We like to try different modes of transport where ever we go so we took an Airport Bus from Taipei International airport (TPE) and got off at the Howard Plaza hotel (no stop at the Eclat and we were told this when we purchased our bus ticket at TPE). From the Howard Plaza it was a 10 minute walk to the Hotel Eclat. At the hotel we were greeted at the door and ushered to the reception where we were efficiently checked in. The same front office staff showed us up to the room and gave us a demo on how all the gadgets worked because the room seriously has everything and opens and shuts, everything is electric down to the toilet seat lid! The hotel is an ART hotel so there are sculptures and painting everywhere. It's workwhile stopping the lift at every floor just to check out the paintings! We left the hotel to check out Taipei and as it was drizzling we were offered a 'dry' umbrella, compared to an already 'wet' one, by the doorman which was a nice gesture and something I had never thought of. When we returned to the hotel in the evening the bed had been turned down, slippers laid out, and a taiwanese cake left on our pillow. We also had a call from a young man wanting to know if the fresh fruit in our room needed replenishing! Great night sleep; great mattress, great doona, OK pillows.
Breakfast; your choice of eggs cooked western style, or a taiwanese breakfast. Eggs benedict were impressive. In addition, an adequate selection from the buffet of western or taiwanese dishes (NOT a massive buffet but very sufficient). Forget the usual old white crockery, all the crockery was 'Royal Albert', definately something different. Nice coffee too. One of the days during our stay at the Eclat was my birthday. When we returned in the evening from a long day out, what should I find but a bottle of Red wine, two glasses and a hand sketched and written birthday card signed by the hotel front office staff, OMG. WOW! All the staff we encountered spoke very good english and were up with directions to all we needed to see in TPE. The hotel is about 2 large blocks (10-15 minute walk) from the MRT in two directions. There is a bus right around the corner of the hotel which will take you to Taipei 101 in about 5 minutes or so. Check out at the hotel was equally as smooth as checkin.

I stayed a week in this small hotel and was delighted by the service and consideration. All of the staff were helpful and about 2 blocks away was a street market with some of Taipei's famous street food and a great spa 2 blocks in the other direction.. Great bed with wonde4rful linens, free internet and soft drinks and complimentary 2 drinks nightly in the library sytyle bar. Towards the end of my stay I caught a cold and they made me special food and drinks. Cabs are very cheap in Taipei and will take you anywhere so the slightly quieter location suited us perfectly.

We stayed at this lovely boutique hotel and everything was perfect. The staff were warm and accommodating. The room, while a bit small, had every tech gadget - electric curtains, a safe in a slide out drawer, a complete function Toto toilet, and a wonderful large shower stall. The drinks in the minibar were complementary.

Their breakfast was outstanding - dim sum, smoked salmon, Japanese bkfst, cold cuts, pastries - just the right selection plus a la carte western bkfst and Chinese soup.

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough!

I have stayed at this hotel before when it was under a different name. The property is exquisite, but the service was just average at the time. My wife stayed there a couple of months ago when she was on a business trip and was very satisfied. This hotel has made my week-long vacation with my extended family much more enjoyable. The rooms are kept clean, amenities well maintained, service immaculate, staff helpful and friendly. On top of that, the reasonable price even includes full breakfast. The location is convenient and in the best part of town. The satisfaction is unanimous - from my 90-year old mother to my teenage son. For a family who has traveled extensively, we know a good hotel when we stay at one.

The warmest welcome ever, despite a late arrival. Prompt and attentive service. Afternoon tea and bar service excellent. Apart from breakfast (good) we did not have other meals in the hotel, hence no comments Interesting and individual room and public decorations, but room temperature difficult to adjust. Provided good advice for excursions.

I loved this hotel from the attentive staff to hotel decoration, you can feel that a heart is put throught the hotel. The afternoon tea set is one you can't miss, food is tasty and very comfort envorinment. Only one bad thing is no gym in the hotel but they can arrange car to pick you to the nearby.

As a long standing SLH member, I have high expectations of any SLH property. In this case, Hotel Eclat did not meet these expectations. It's not a bad hotel but it just isn't up the standards of a SLH or 5 star boutique property.

For example, on the Sat & Sun morning, there was a queue for breakfast. The staff were actually telling people to go back to their rooms & they would send room service breakfast up. Whoa!! Never saw that before. People were not happy but most just shrugged & left (not sure if they went back to their rooms or just couldn't be bothered & left without breakfast).

As a result of the log jam, there was a crowd all waiting outside the lifts (where the breakfast room entry was). A couple of people were sitting on the floor & had grabbed some juice/food to eat while waiting. It didn't look good especially first thing in the morning as you step out of the lift!! In fact, it looked like a scene at Heathrow airport during the current winter storm!!

This is not the impression that a supposed top quality hotel wants to give.
I understand the hotel is doing a lot of advertising in print magazines now as they are desperate for business as a result of all the new top level hotels entering the local market in the past year. As a result, they have lowered their prices (& standards??) too. If you can get yourself a rate of under TWD3000/night, it's worth it. If you pay more than that, you're a chump.

it's not bad; it's just not worth over TWD3000.
