This an unusual lodging place. It really is an apartment complex for families needing housing next to a hospital and now has been transformed into a hotel. So, some unique and paradoxical features are present.
First, the advantages followed by the paradox.
Incredibly spacious and well-furnished! A living room, study room, kitchenette with stove, full refrigerator/freezer, washing machine, and huge walk-in closet ! And 1 or 2 bedrooms depending on your choice.
A small dining table that seats 4.
Huge shelf space and closet. A unique ceiling to floor open-shelf taking up an entire wall has block shelves which allows the guest(s) to place everything in the open and easy-to-find. I usually live out of a suitcase, since I fear leaving stuff behind a in a drawer, and this design is so convenient.
High-speed internet via cable. Wifi is available only in the lobby lounge.
Well-equipped exercise-weight room and sauna (no swimming pool). Effective, independent air-conditioning for each room.
Large comfortable bed.
The Metro is 1 block away - ask the staff for directions for a scenic shortcut.
Now, the paradoxes:
No utensils, No dishes! 2 cups and saucers - not even a spoon. If you want utensils or dishes, I think you have to pay. Better to obtain plastic utensils from a fast food restaurant.
Reliable Internet service, but the cable is hidden behind the HD TV and no instructions. A cable of about 15 feet allows you to place your laptop on a large desk in the next room! So, you have a this long cable running across the floor to your laptop in another room.
Worn rug and old furniture (although comfortable).
The staff is not well-trained compared to modern hotel staff, but they are nice.
Free Breakfast: Large selection. If you like Chinese breakfast, I rate this a solid B. If you like American breakfast, a C minus.
The biggest advantage and surprise - the Price ! $107/night (Oct 2012)
The biggest disadvantage - it is a 45 min from the international airport
(Taoyuan) and downtown Taipei and longer time during rush hour. If you are familiar with the subway Metro - then no problem.
My Summary Recommendation:
If you have business in Neihu, an ideal place to lodge even for a single traveler. Excellent accomodation at a super-low price.
If you have a family of 3 or greater and can use the Metro, Kang Ning is an excellent first choice - both from comfort and price.
I have stayed here 3 times - twice as a single traveler on business and once with my sister and brother. Considering everything especially price , I give Kang Ning my highest recommendation.
