“Educational!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

A must visit if you want to know more about xin bei tou, its history and how it became the plc for hot spring... It is just steps frm the train station. Best of all? Admission is free. Do take some time to sit down and rest in the tatami hall when gentle breeze can be expected even on a hot summer day.

Beautiful small museum on the history of hot spring in the area. A short walk away from the Beitou thermal valley.

“must go”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

Make a trip down to Beitou Hot Spring Museum after the Geothermal Valley. It's just along the way, and it's free! nice place to look around, and will definitely learn a lot about the history of hot spring in Taipei. It's very organised over there. Staffs will lead you to put your shoes/slippers in the cupboard provided, and wear their slippers there to walk around. Will get to see about how the old films were made in Taipei too. Interesting place. Walk around to take lots of pictures!

Old folks around are very proud of their attractions, two of them even invited us to go to one of the attractions (Plum Garden) to take a look. Note that this place is close on Mondays, just like other places around. :)

“Free museum, good for 30 min visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2014

Stop by this museum on your way to enjoying the hot springs. It's free admission, so one can't really complain about its size. You will be asked to leave your shoes behind in unsecured lockers and to don slippers to walk through this museum. The museum is a preserved bathhouse with Chinese and English signs describing its history. There are a couple of places where you can take 1-2 nice pictures, and that's about it. Worth it if you're going to Beitou anyway for the hot springs, but not worth a trip specifically to come out and see the museum.

“Small museum: very crowded on Sundays”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014

I wasn't so impressed by this place, although I guess it is interesting if you happen to have a penchant for hot springs. Generally Beitou seems to be a place which appeals much more to the locals than to foreigners: personally I prefer Tamsui as a day trip from central Taipei.
