The rooms are bigger than expected. The beds are so comfortable that we keep oversleeping. Staff are very friendly.

It is about a 10 minute walk from the nearest MRT. There are many 7-11s around the area.

Nice, clean and quiet hotel in good location close to public transit and a large supermarket.
Good for a short stay and a base point to get around the city.
No major troubles and no major excitements. Good value for the money.

The hotel was very clean and looked new. We took 3 rooms, 2 doubles (1 was bigger than the other) and 1 family room which had plenty of space.

All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Most of us don't speak chinese but they mostly spoke English and patiently assisted us with our enquiries.

The location was good too; just a few stops to Shihlin market. And a few stops in the other direction brought us to the Ximending area. Taxi fares were only about TWD120 to both places (it's in the middle of both areas). It was a vert pleasant stay overall.

Our first impression was a little guarded as the reception was quite small. However this changed once the staff attended to us. There were 3 of them and all were eager to please. They were warm and friendly without coming across as "faked".

The hotel arrangement is quite unusual as it occupies the 2nd storey of a non-descript building. There is another hotel on the 5th and 6th floor (I think). However the premises were well kept and clean. Our room was small but the use of space is good and it didn't feel claustrophobic. We liked the toilet as it was big as compared to a room that size.

We stayed there for 5 nights and all the staff (from reception, house keeping and even the cook and server in the café for breakfast) were warm and friendly.

The location is also good as it is in the older (and interesting) part of Taipei. There is a Carrefour at the next block. We were able to get to Shilin Market, National Palace Musuem, Danshui, Ximending, 101, Maokong, etc via the nearby MRT Station or public buses. The reception staff were very helpful in helping us with info.

One negative (which is why we didn't give an overall rating of 5) is that there is a frequent smell of cigarettes in the hallway, especially in the mornings. I suppose you can't blame the hotel but the type of guests that stayed there during our stay.

Room Tip: Good location, near MRT Station and bus stops. Also near the riverside park, though we didn't...

Rooms:
I booked a four-person room, it's cosy and nice. TVs come fitted with cable channels, my parents enjoyed watching old Hong Kong movies when we're back in hotel after a long day's walk. Beds are great, although it's a bit tight to fit 2 queens sized beds into what seems like a 32 squared metre room (I'm not sure about the room size). We had to pack our luggages on the bed due to a lack of floor space to fully open our 28-inch and 24-inch luggages.

Although room is located on the 2nd floor, the double-layered windows have excellent sound-proofing capabilities from the traffic below. (sound-proofing so fantastic, we can even hear the air-con)

Service:
Service is excellent and hassle-free. We pre-arranged transport to and fro the hotel and Taoyuan airport, because I'm travelling with my parents and with a few luggage. It only costs me NT1200 (Airport -> Hotel) and NT1100 (Hotel -> Airport). Pickup and dropoff is no delay. Traffic condition is good, because we left airport at 2pm and reached hotel at around 2.40pm. On departure day, we left at 4.30pm and reached airport at 5pm. Please bear in mind traffic conditions, when arranging for transport during peak hours.

Staff are friendly and makes you feel welcome all the time, regardless of how busy they are, they will stop to speak to you and introduce new things around Taipei as much as they can, true to the friendly traits of a typical Taiwanese.

Location:
Hotel is located within walking distance from Dagiaotou (大桥头) MRT station, but would not advise to walk, if you are travelling with elderlies who may not be able to walk long distance, (about 600 - 700 metres). May not sound much, but after a long day out, you would want to reach your hotel quickly, so the "to and fro" is already more than 1km. If you wish, you may take bus 274 from Taipei Main Station (direction towards LuZhou - 泸州), only 5 bus stops (alight at BaoAn Street Entrance - 保安街口), you'll reach the bus stop opposite a 7-Eleven store. Walking to the hotel is less than 50m from this bus stop.

Meals:
Breakfast is convenient, they have a dining area downstairs that serves only breakfast, but it's pretty decent. Apart from the usual bread that you can toast and spread yourself, they also have the regular chinese fare, like fried noodles, nuggets, steamed dumplings and buns, etc. If these don't fit your appetite, "Wellcome" (supermarket) is just across the street, you can get you regular supermarket stuff from there. Otherwise, you may get regular Taiwanese breakfast from the store right next to the dining area, to get fried carrot cake, fried onion crepe and also fried dumplings, sandwiches, etc.

If you're returning to hotel mid-day to drop off your shopping loot before continuing the second round for the night, you can also consider having you lunch / dinner at a food stall just down the side side of the street as the hotel, towards the Dagiaotou MRT station route (about 150 metres - 200 metres) from the hotel. They have awesome pig's blood soup and fried chicken thigh and drumstick. Most of their dishes are delicious!

Nearby:
Apart from Wellcome Supermarket, Carrefour is also nearby. Just ask the staff how to go. Also, there is a "Ningxia Night Market" (宁夏夜市) (about 600 metres walk from the hotel), you can quell your hunger pangs at night by dropping by for supper. If you want to experience true morning market crowds at their wet market, there's also a market place nearby the hotel (about 400 metres from the hotel - towards Dagiaotou station direction), you can experience the morning market crowds and witness the everyday life of a typical Taiwanese by walking through that small street.

Interesting Fact:
Apparently, we found out from the driver who drove us to the Airport, that almost half the shops on that street belongs to the famous Taiwanese socialite, 许纯美. -.-'

Room Tip: This hotel does not take tour group bookings, so don't need to worry about large groups of touri...

The If Inn was great, family of four, decent size room and nice bathroom, and all nicely updated. Breakfast downstairs included and proudly served by a very nice gentleman who loved to explain all the dishes to us, and also enjoyed watching our kids eat and then eat some more! Walking distance to metro station, and desk staff very helpful with suggestions, directions, anything we asked. We recommend the inn!

The building this place is in has an unusual layout, it only occupies the first floor, there are businesses and other hotels on other floors. I mention this because currently there is some construction going on outside, which made for an unpleasant 8am Saturday wakeup call.

The rooms were quite small, and had nowhere to put luggage (as you can see from my photo) however you really cant complain for the money, it was clean and modern, with the exception of the TV which had no HDMI inputs.

The futuristic high tech toilet was a nice gimmick (see photos), being there when it was cold made the heated seat very much appreciated, and also made it a top location for writing reviews on trip advisor.

The internet at this place was off the chain, downloaded stuff at 3megs/second. For those uneducated that is top tier speeds and it also allowed torrent's.

Breakfast ended at 10am and was served in a small cafe on the street, a bit difficult to describe. It was half decent for a western breakfast, it had scrambled eggs, toast and ok coffee.

I think this place is really good value for money. Dollar for dollar it is one of the best places I have stayed in.
