“Wonderful Hotel - Good Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2011

I recently stayed at the Ambience Hotel for six nights. This small hotel is located in a mixed residential / commercial area and is adjacent to an overhead expressway, but the area is completely safe and the double paned windows keep out the noise. My request for a room on a high floor was honored and check-in was handled promptly and efficiently by a pleasant front desk clerk. The hotel offers a secure environment. To get into the hotel you must enter through the lobby entrance and walk past the front desk to get to the elevators. I noticed there are security cameras throughout the hotel. The guest room doors have electronic card key locks and secondary locks inside the room. Unfortunately the doors don't have the "fish eye" hole to look through when someone is at your door.

My room was spacious compared to rooms at other hotels I have stayed at throughout Asia. Furnishings included a small desk, lounge chair, flat screen TV with satellite programing (including several English language channels) and FREE on-demand movies (including adult selections), and also a small stereo system. The bathroom was fairly spacious with a large shower area adjacent to a full size tub (see photo). The shower had a nice rainfall shower head. My only criticism of the bathroom was the lack of counter space around the sink (see photo). The shower area extends the entire length of the tub and it seems is wasted space that could have been designed better to offer more space around the sink. In any case, everything in the bathroom as well as the hotel room was extremely clean. I did notice, however, evidence of mildew starting to appear on the tiles around the shower area.

The breakfast buffet included Asian and Western style hot and cold dishes in addition to tea, coffee, and juices. The hot dishes were different each day of my stay. Overall, the breakfast offerings were more than adequate to meet my needs.

As others of mentioned, the staff at the Ambience Hotel are top notch. Everyone I had contact with, from the front office personnel, to the housekeeping staff, to the breakfast staff were all very warm and welcoming and always available to assist with questions, directions, or recommendations. Special recognition to Clare who went above and beyond in assisting with directions and providing recommendations on places to see and eat and writing things in Chinese when I needed translation.

The hotel has an Apple computer in the lobby, with Internet access, that is free for guest use.

Based upon the hard product, top notch staff and service, and value, I highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Taipei!

GETTING THERE

If you arrive via Taoyuan Airport, you can take the Evergreen (EVA) Airport Bus to the Evergreen Hotel which is about a five minute walk from the Ambience. In TERMINAL TWO, as you exit customs, turn right, walk to the large hallway and turn right again. At the very end of the hallway on your left is the airport bus counters. Find the Evergreen counter and tell the clerk you want to go to the Evergreen Hotel (stop #10). The fare is NT$150. Follow the signs to the bus counters if you arrive in TERMINAL ONE. When you arrive at the Evergreen Hotel, turn right after exiting the bus and walk a few hundred feet to the intersection. Turn right and cross the street. Keep walking, past the 7-11, a laundromat, and the police station. You'll see the overhead expressway. The hotel is just across the intersection. If you want to take a taxi, the cost is about NT$1400 from the airport.

GETTING AROUND

There are two MRT (metro) stations within walking distance of the hotel; Zhongxiao Xinsheng and Shandao Temple. The former is a bit closer. To get to the Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station, exit the hotel lobby and turn right. Follow the street (that parallels the expressway) for one block and turn right again. At the intersection with the large street level expressway, continue walking across the expressway towards the basketball courts under the overhead expressway. It's faster and easier to walk on the left side of the basketball courts. The Guanghua Computer Market building is on your left. Walk about two blocks to the next intersection with a traffic light. There is a Starbucks directly across the street to your left. Turn left and walk a few hundred feet. To your right is a short lane. Cross the street and walk down this short lane past the Barista Coffee Cafe. The lane intersects with Zhongxiao Road. Turn left. MRT Entrance #1 is just a few hundred feet further. At a brisk pace, you can walk to this MRT station in about seven minutes or at a leisurely pace in about 12-15 minutes.

If you are going to the area of Taipei 101 and you don't want to walk to the MRT station, Bus 202 travels past the hotel and terminates at Taipei City Hall with a stop at Taipei 101. The bus stop is half a block from the hotel. Turn left as you exit the lobby. The bus stop is on the same side of the street as the hotel.

Taipei Main Railway Station is just two stops from the Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station. Taipei City Hall Station is just four stops away. The Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station is also the terminus for the Luzhou Line which connects with the Red Danshui Line at Minquan East Road. If you are going to the Shilin Night Market, Danshui, or anywhere north of Minquan East Road, this is a preferable transit point vs. the mass of humanity you must traverse through at Taipei Main Station to transfer from the Blue Yongning-Nangan Line to the Red Danshui Line.

LAUNDRY

The hotel has one washer and dryer on the 10th floor for guest use at NO CHARGE. However, the machines are small and frequently in use by other guests. There are two 24 hour self serve laundromats within two minutes walk from the hotel. #1: exit the hotel and walk to the intersection. Turn left and cross the street. Turn right and cross the street again, twice. Keep walking for two minutes past the police station. The laundromat is on your left. #2: exit the hotel and walk to the intersection. Turn left and cross the street. Keep walking parallel to the expressway along the sidewalk with the railing. After about another minute, look to your left. You will see a large sign that displays "24H". This is the laundromat.

FOOD OPTIONS

There is a 7-11 and Family Mart within two blocks of the hotel. After you exit the lobby, turn left and keep walking. Both stores are on your right across the street.

For reasonably priced, good quality, food I recommend the food halls on the second floor of Taipei Main Railway Station (both self serve and full serve restaurants) and also the food hall in the basement level of the Hankyu Department Store at the City Hall MRT Station. If you're craving American food, there's a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant along the pedestrian walkway adjacent to to the Japanese Shin Kong Department Store (City Hall MRT) and a TGI Fridays in the Ximen District (Ximen MRT).

Hope all of this information is helpful.

We got a fantastic rate for our Deluxe rooms at this hotel and stayed for a total of 4 nights. Everything about the hotel had exceeded our expectations, most notably their super excellent service. Whilst in general Taiwanese hospitality is inspiring, the staff at Ambience still deserves special mention for going out of their way to help me manage my young kid's special dietary request on several occasions. Nothing was too much of a hassle for them despite their skeletal staff force (which required them to multi-task) and their long shift hours. They are completely customer focused and truly deserve all the fabulous reviews written on their exceptional service level. Ad-hoc service calls were also attended to very efficiently. The reception staff spoke fluent English.

The rooms (including the bathroom) were clean, comfortable, of a good size and came with quality furnishing. The complimentary breakfast whilst did not come with a long buffet line, was more than sufficient and quality food was served. I had one of the best showers from my hotel stays at this hotel. The water pressure was strong, there was a rain shower and bathtub and it afforded comfortable showers even in the height of winter. My young daughter who dreads bath time has been pleading for frequent showers since we got there! The hotel provides complimentary washing machine and clothes dryer which we made use of quite a fair bit. Although it was located next to a busy intersection, the noise insulation from its external environment was very good but they could improve on the noise insulation coming from the neighbouring rooms and the corridors though to us this was hardly an issue.

Walking to the MRT stations may require some effort but taxis are cheap and aplenty. They can get to you most places of interest within city centre between NT$80 - NT$150. Many cheap seafood joints are found near the hotel but they tend to get really crowded and noisy on weekends. Despite the large crowd, food gets served promptly.

My elderly parents too have high praises for this hotel. They have been looking forward to return to this hotel while we visited places outside Taipei. Ambience Hotel truly raises the bar in the "Value for Money" and "Service Excellence" perspectives.

If not for the rain that dampened our spirit almost daily during our 9-day trip and my young child terrorizing us, this holiday would have been PERFECT!

The first thing that impresses is clean. The decor is white, grey and crispy looking. The room has glass wall, like ceiling to floor window. This would have made superb view if it faced a lake, shore or woods but it actually look at city streets. Well, still good with the effort.
It is about 1.5 hour away from Taoyuen Airport, when we took "Eva"bus to the city, and walk about 5 minutes from the stop to the airport. Front desk found our Expedia booking and check in was quick. Got a mid level room and the staff told us they had welcoming snacks. It was nice all-you-can-eat afternoon pastry, fruits...
Bed was very comfortable. A roomy bathroom with full tub and separate walk-in shower and much shelf space. My husband is very picky about hotel showers, and he likes this one.
In most Asian hotel rooms, you may find a tea kettle more often than coffeemaker, same here. There are tea bags, instant coffee and mini bar (charge) in the fridge. Try their breakfast. Service and quality of food is above average, with real utensils. You can even sit and eat comfortably. (I once stayed at Cosmos Hotel, breakfast in the banquet room is like in Chinese buffet)
No gym, no swimming pool in this hotel. But if you think walking is one kind of exercise, then this hotel is fine. It is about 12-15 minutes walk to the metro station. If you can read Chinese, you may use city buses to go to Taipei Train station, a major hub and underground shopping center.

Just last month, i attended a 6-day scientific conference followed another 6 days of sightseeing in Taipei. The one thing that struck me when i first entered the hotel was not the minimalistic design of the lobby, or the clean rooms, but it was the staff of the hotel.

Everybody, from the front desk staff during the day, to the ones that were around through the night, to the waiters at breakfast and the bartender were exhibiting a level of service that far exceeded my expectations. Not only did they remembered my room number during breakfast, they also remembered the address of my conference venue, and even the kind of coffee i drank in the morning. In my opinion, such personal service is uncommon and definitely commendable.

Special mention goes to Clare at the front desk who answered so many of my queries about the restaurants, the supermarkets, subway stations, taxi bookings and so much more.

With such a fantastic team of staff at the hotel, i would have no doubts about staying at the hotel again the next time i visit Taipei.

We stayed here for two nights and the hotel was very nice. The hotel lobby was quite plush and the rooms are more then average, clean and comfortable. For the price you cant go wrong. The breakfast was also nice and the level of service exceeded my expectations and the staff go out of there way to help you. It was my husbands birthday and they gave him a birthday card and two complimentary drinks at the bar.! I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Taipei. Oh and also free internet!

I've been to Taipei many times over the years for both business and pleasure and have always usually stayed at the same hotel. This past trip the hotel was sold out so I had to look elsewhere. Am I ever glad I did! The Ambience Hotel is a welcome addition to Taipei and is an excellent choice.

This new hotel is quite modern with a very trendy Starck-inspired décor. Based on the Trip Advisor reviews, I decided to book the corner room which was well worth the small additional expense. The room was well laid out and I had a nice floor to ceiling window view. Everything in the room was new and logically presented. Complimentary wi-fi, cd and dvd players and a nice flat panel tv with a good selection of channels were offered.

I really enjoyed the vibe of this hotel as it felt very clean and modern. The front staff were excellent and very professional. A full breakfast with both Chinese and western selections was offered. It was not the best breakfast but more than adequate with free juices and coffee and tea. Each night they also offered a 2 for 1 happy hour in the bar.

As some of the other reviewers have mentioned, it is not the most central of locations but taxis in Taipei are incredibly reasonable and it is easy to get to all of the main attractions. The Metro was about 10-15 minutes away by foot and easy to reach.

I will certainly book this hotel again on my future trips to Taipei!

5 night stay with two business associates. 1st time in Taipei.

Stayed in corner suite which was very roomy and so well appointed. Gourmet coffee maker, tea, free high speed , flat screen TVs, DVD, Sub woofer, MP3 player, CD player etc etc no room for improvement i can think of.

Hotel is small and quiet with no resto. But they do great breakfast and free drinks/snacks and free internet (including PCs, laptops and a Mac) 24hrs. Free midday tea (way more than a tea)

Taxi driver told me hotel is regarded as one of the best in city and is used by stars/VIPs who want privacy as only hotel guests are allowed even in public areas.

Highlight is the staff who I can't praise highly enough. Super professional and attentive without being too much. Whoever does the training here is a master of the craft. we were all treated with patience and kindness well above and beyond the call of duty.

This is my only Taipei hotel experience but I wouldn't take a chance and stay anywhere else after this 1st class visit.
