“Read this to decide : 8/10”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 December 2013

Lots to write on this hotel , be it location or service. So I am going to make it very detailed for easy reading.

Location :
1. Jian Tan MRT , it is 10 mins walk away , very convenient but Jian Tan Mrt is about 4-5 stops away from the Taipei Train station which means you need to take towards that direction to change to the other lines for your destination. So of course, its better live around Taipei Train station instead.

2. Shilin market : it is just around the corner, opposite the JT mrt station. So night snacks and daily dinners not a problem at all.

3. Subway is just outside the hotel and a convinent 7-11 is just across. Again, there are other eateries just beside subway called " Ba Fang Yun Ji", it sells AWESOME dumplings boiled and pan fried ones, just ask them how to eat it and they will show you the cordiments that goes with it. Cheap and MUST TRY!

4. Just at the junction as you walk to the MRT, there is a fantastic fruit store that does wholesale. Get your fruits there and munch in the room. Its reasonably priced and they wont overcharge you, all prices are list out clear and honest.

Hotel / Room Service:
1. Rooms are very clean, very spacious and Tv channels are enough to keep you quite entertained. However, the bath tubs are a stupid design as in the water would still leak out no matter how you try to keep the curtains in. Your floor still gets wet. Dumb design.

2. Breakfast timing is way silly , only 7-9am or 9.30am. So you never get to sleep in at all. On weekends, its till 10am. No more than that. I think thats an obvious way of just cutting cost because they ovbiously have no lunch crowd at this basement cafe. Or those service staff there needs to be chambermaid or something thats why they need to leave the cafe by 9am to do their other job. Its silly and for the week we stayed there, we mostly missed out breakfast. And if you read the other reviews, they have the same problem. But with Subway outside, I really dont care anyway cos breakfast is the same everyday. No change.

3. Lobby is extremely small. You might get frightened by the look of its lobby thinking it translate to the size of the room. but be assured that the room are fine. The lobby is just amazingly small.

4. Reception staff are fantastic. Ask them anythng and they would find out on the internet for you if they have no answers

5. Wifi is strong in the rooms.

6. Walls are quite thin. If you are unlucky you get a neighbor who switches on the air vent the entire night, your sleep is screwed. We had that and spoke to the reception about it, they willingly offered a change of room if they couldn't get the neighbours to shut up. So I am happy with that.

Overall, great stay, not the most expected corner of a place you find the hotel in. But nothing to worry about, its still a great location. We get good fruits and easy stroll to the MRT everyday and nothing beats having awesome breakfast alternatives at the doorstep, western subway or Chinese dumplings. Take your pick. I am happy to give this place a 8/10 if not for the stupid breakfast time and I was quite cheesed off with paying some nights for almost $180 which it definitely doesn't deserve. Anything around 80-120 is worth it.

About a 7 minutes walk to the nearest MRT and 10 minutes walk to the Shih Lin night market. Staff at the reception, especially the ladies, are friendly and helpful. However, I can't say the same for a couple of the men staff.
We had 2 business room. One had separated shower and bathtub area. The other room (room 706) has a tire looking bathroom and the windows faces a residential/commercial block. The 'hazardous' part is the very slippery tile floors in the bathroom when it is wet. I strongly urge you not to use the supplied room slippers in the bathroom. No matter how we position the shower head, water will still flows from the sides of the wall down on the floor. We reckon it is the incorrect gradient of the long bath skirting. As we are on 2 night stay only, we simply request the chamber maid for extra floor towels. Must say that the service staff at the breakfast reception are very pleasant. The 'smallish' reception/lobby area and the narrow passage way to the lift area just makes me feel like I am in a budget hotel.

I chose this hotel becos of the reviews of it's close proximity to Shih Lin night market and the convenience of covering the northern area of Taipei. After been there, I realized that it is not any inconvenient to travel up north even if one stays in the central location. The good network of the MRT and taxi, make travel very fluid. I would stay in the central area to soak up the vibe of being on a holiday. If you have been to ximending night market then u can afford to miss Shih Lin market.

Room Tip: Avoid room 706 unless hotel assured you that they have resolved the water flowing down from shower/l...

The staff here is extremely friendly. They will greet you with a smile when you check in. As soon as you walk into your room, it will smell really fresh. The room was small but it's clean. It's about a 5 minute walk from the hotel to the shilin night market. Will stay at this hotel again in the future.

We stayed here 5 nights with 2 children. The room size was decent and the bathroom huge. The room/ complimentary extras were very welcoming.

We also stayed 7 nights in May at another Beauty Hotel: The Beautique. If ever we return to Taipei we will certainly look for one of the Beauty Chain Hotels. Both we have stayed at offer very clean rooms with very helpful desk staff AND housekeeping staff. We cannot fault the service. In terms of location, The Beautique is closer to the international circle with better restaurant choices nearby. Star Beauty is better located to the MRT and Shilin Night Markets. Taipei's MRT is easy to understand and get around so we chose to make location to trains a priority this time.

Stayed in the Star Beauty hotel for 3 nights with my 21months old boy. It is about 20-25mins from Tao Yuen airport by taxi. Check-in was smooth, and we walked in to a spacious clean neat room, and view to the Qian Gang Park and its swimming pool. Spacious bathroom, with water jet bath tub. Free wifi is a plus. The area feels local with convenient stores right across the road - 7 elevent, Family Mart. We like to bring our active toddler to the park for morning walk, and he loves to watch the group of women dancing with taiwanese songs. Hotel also provides daily complimentary coupon to the swimming pool - indoor and outdoor. It is pretty dated swimming pool, but we had fun playing with the slides in the playpool - ideal to burn some energy off the active toddler. Good buffet breakfast, chinese rice porridge, five-spice braised pork, cereals, fruit, good selection bread and french toast, and typical english style food like bacon, sausages, scramble eggs. The breakfast room is at basement, but we like it since it has 2 rooms, which means we can choose the front part with only 2 tables - baby can make noise or whatever he likes without us worrying about disturbing others.
Location wise, it is less than 10mins easy walk to MRT Jian Tan station which split to 2 entrances. One of the entrance (to the left from hotel), is only across the road from Shilin night market. The other entrance has lift for stroller to get to the MRT platform. We bought 1 day pass, and went to hot spring town- Xin Beitou on the same train line (7 stops from Jian Tan to Beitou, then go across platform 4 to take a short fun train to Xin Bei Tou). All and all, a pleasant stay and a happy baby exploring new town!

My wife and I stayed at the Starbeauty hotel in Taipei for 6 nights (August 2013).

The hotel is very good located, near the Shilin night market and only 5 minutes walk to the metrostation Jiantan. The breakfast was also very delicious, we have enjoyed it every day.

We would like to highlight, that the staff was always very friendly, helpful and respectful (reception, restaurant, etc.).

Our room was a CA Luxury Room. It was very large and spacious. We have never seen a bigger bathroom before in another hotel. The free WIFI worked very well.

If we would go again to Taipei, we will surely book this hotel again.
