It is not posh. It very much reminds me of a New York diner. But the food is very good. The service is a little slow and the Stink Beans are not for the faint of heart, but I would definitely eat here again, just to sample the rest of the menu that my friends and I did not order.

Came with a larger group of people and the food here was very good. Tried the stinky beans with shrimp, which was tasty, the omelet with crab, which was fantastic, the yellow curry with prawns and lotus root, which was good, and the stir fried Thai flower with pork which was great. This is a place to try a bunch of different dishes and the restaurant gets packed so get there early to get a table if you have a large group. The price is reasonable for the food.

Krua Asporn is a very famous restaurant in Bangkok, but if you did not know about it more than likely you would walk straight past. This restaurant has been in Bangkok for over 100 years and the family use to cook for the Royal Family.

Most of the dishes are cooked from recipes handed down over the years, so don’t let the simple menu fool you as there are some famous and amazing dishes to be had here.

One of those dishes is the stir fried crab in curry powder, pieces of crabmeat sautéed with egg, onion, spring onions in a mild curry sauce. It is exceptional!

Krua Asporn has four branches; we went to the original one on Samsen Road in the old quarter of Bangkok. The chef/owner is Chanchawee Sakunkan or better known as Aunty Daeng, she is a lovely lady and came over to have photos taken with us.

Aunty Daeng use to cook for the late Queen Mother and the King’s late sister. This restaurant is so old fashioned looking, nothing flash at all but the food is amazing and not expensive at all.

Chefs from around the world come to Krua Asporn for a meal and if you have the chance to eat here then we would highly recommend a visit.

I dined here solo for a late lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was not too crowded so I was able to get a seat. I ordered green curry with fish balls and coconut sorbet as dessert. The restaurant's decor was very clean and plain, nothing particularly special. I was told that this is supposed to be one of the best restaurants in Bangkok, but honestly I did not understand what the fuss was all about. The food was good, served hot, but tasted just as good as many of the other dishes I had in Bangkok food courts and other Bangkok restaurants. The service was friendly but not exceptional. I think this restaurant was average, good, but not worth making a special trip to. Perhaps if I had gone with a larger group of people (and ordered more things) then maybe I would have a different opinion of this restaurant.

I was told that the owner used to serve the queen. Probably this is the reason why it's so popular with local people. Food is good but nothing more special than many other local restaurants here in Bangkok. Service is poor, the place is simple. Would come again if happen to be in the neighbour hood, otherwise no.
