This is probably my 8th time staying at the "JL". It offers tremendous value for the amenities (free breakfast, comfortable clean room with TV, A/C, refrigerator, clean towels, excellent hotel-wide housekeeping, free 24/7 wifi, onsite restaurant, and highly competent staff throughout).

The hotel is located just off a busy Ramkhamhaeng Road, where vendors setup every evening to sell everything...and I mean everything. The vendors cater particularly to women. There are dresses, cosmetics, shoes, makeup, jewelry, and hair for sale, if that's what you want. There is an excitement in the air just walking past each vendor....Oh yeah, I found it to be safe to venture out after dark in case you are wondering.

The hotel is located on a major bus route and a short walk to the water taxi to downtown. Just 20-25 minutes from the airport, you should expect to pay between ThB200 and ThB300 for a taxi (between USD6 and USD9). One of the "must do" experiences is the water taxi, which is ThB19 to downtown.

The hotel is family-owned and run. Preda, Julie, sons and their families usually eat together each evening. They live right there, so they experience what you experience and their standards are high.

Dinner portions are just right. I have never had a bad meal. The dinner has very good variety; serving Thai-style, Chinese-style, and American-style food.

Tour groups come and go 2 or 3 times a week, which adds variety to people you see and meet at breakfast and dinner. Both young and old stay at the hotel.

If you are looking for a hotel without all the frills, but one that provides for your basic needs and more, than this is the place. At a very reasonable room prices, you will be satisfied with the value you get for your money at the JL.

Room Tip: I prefer a room in the front of the hotel, where the action is and things to see, if you are a peopl...

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and definitely did not have anything to complain about. It is very clean and well maintained. The staff is also very polite and professional and is helpful with travel tips. The hotel room has all your basic needs- tv, clean towels, shampoo/ shower gel, hair dryer, fridge, etc. We stayed here because we had work in that area so it was perfect for us but it is slightly far from the posh-er areas of Bangkok like Silom and sightseeing attractions such as Grand Palace. A taxi by meter cost us around a 100-150 baht back to the hotel. Do try and get taxis by the meter otherwise you will get charged a lot. Most of them go by meter but there r times that u won't find one.
Had one meal in the hotel- dinner- and the food was great.

Stayed here for 3 nights from 1st of May 2013 with my girlfriend. JL Bangkok is situated on a side street but very close to the main road. Free breakfast is simple with fried rice, fried noodles, steam sausages, fruits , toast bread, fried eggs, fruit juice and coffee (same stuff everyday but its free). They have ala carte stuff at their cafe as well with slightly higher price.

Clean room with hair dryer, cupboard for clothes, daily change of towels and free wifi. There is also a safe in the room. Clean sheets and well maintain. Friendly service from the counter. They provide tours to floating market as well. Lots of channels on TV with a few english language channels as well.

The hotel is located near Ramkhamhaeng University, lots of food stalls and cheap clothes stalls right outside the hotel area. Very happening with lots of young people around. Two of The Malls shopping complex nearby with fast food and groceries shopping. Major cineplex within 5 mins walking distance which has cheaper ticket price compared to SFX cineplexes in more popular malls. I personally prefer the screen quality at Major Cineplex compared to SFX in Central Malls.

Not close to any MRT station. Come out to the main road from the hotel. Cross over to the opposite road and go towards the bus stand on the left (from the hotel) . Take bus No. 137 to Phra Ram 9 MRT station for only 20 baht (mention Fortune Ratchada to the conductor, most people will take this to get to the MRT so don't worry about missing the place). When coming back to hotel, take the bus 137 again from bus stop outside Central Rama 9 and tell the conductor Big C Ram (for the mall nearby JL Bangkok).

The bus takes around 10-20 mins depending on traffic. Can take the same bus to The Mall Bangkapi as well.

You get what you pay for, this is a basic hotel, that has everything you need in the rooms including fridge and microwave. I would recommend for a short stay and then try closer to the city for more nightlife etc.
The staff very friendly and good for advice and travel tips. This area is very cheap for clothes etc and even the stall food is delicious.

Room Tip: I would recommend the deluxe if you are staying with friends the single rooms perfect if you are tra...

I am just now enjoying my favorite papaya salad at the Blue Restaurant of the JL Bangkok hotel. Coming back for a second time to teach at Ramkamhaeng University, it was a pleasure to be greeted by Meow at the airport and to arrive at what feels like a second home and see wonderful familiar faces. The owner, Julie and her husband, are so lovely and gracious as well as their son and daughter-in-law, and sweet grandchild. Their warm and friendly family is exactly the atmosphere of the hotel, restaurant and staff.

There was no doubt that I would stay here again as I did the first time in the Fall of 2011 since it was such a great experience. Staying here for a month to teach immersive courses is a great experience itself, but alot of work and it can also be exhausting and stressful. Therefore, coming "home" to such a wonderful oasis in the midst of busy Bankapi is perfect.

The hotel is small and charming with very clean rooms, wifi, cable and phone. The restaurant is wonderful--both the atmosphere and the food! As well, they also provides room-service, which can be handy. There is also a lovely garden that is well-kept and a perfect spot to relax away from the "hussle-and-bussle".

As I did last year, I'll stay on a bit after I finish teaching and while I could relocate to one of the more center city neighborhoods I won't because I enjoy so much staying here and it is central enough and easy to navigate to all of the neighborhoods and easily access the airport. As well, the room rates for such a great hotel with its outstanding staff can't be beat!

It is nice to come "home" again!

(i rarely write reviews because i'm always running around and busy, so that i take a time-out to do this means something!)
