1st, remember to print the photo of the hotel and the street name on http://hipbangkokhotel.com/ for easy communication. At the airport, the public taxi stand is at Gate 10 (left side after exit from immigration). There will be a booth which note the place of your destination and hand to a cab driver in another queue. Insist them to switch on or go by meter, otherwise, get out and get another cab. You will pass by 1 toll, which you need to pay other than the taxi fare. Don’t be surprise, it is the normal practice. The total cab fee should be around 250 to 300 Thai Bhatt.
Hotel ground floor is the concierge, greeted by friendly and helpful bell-boys. The main lobby is at the second floor. Hotel design is like the photo online, contemporary and colorful. Front desk personnel are friendly but can be more helpful. Beware of the more matured front desk lady who is more discourteous and unaccommodating.
My friends took room 708, a Spa-studio and 1005, a zen-ish Hi-studio. Although the corridor is rather dimly lit and stuffy, rooms are cozy, bed is comfortable and room size is adequate.
My stay is in the Spa-studio, which has similar toiletry and facilities as Hi-studio, except we have a message bath-tub. However, water pressure is not strong enough. On top of that, the hot water is not hot enough too….. My worst experience in the hotel is when the air-con broke down. We were out shopping till wee late, thus we only realize the fault at 4 to 5am… being exhausted, we literally drop onto the bed but to realize the room is not cooling enough! I called the front desk to report the matter, get some rectification and to request for a small fan but was challenged by one of the lady front desk personnel. She put on a very defensive mode, telling me I can’t change room and so on…We are so tired and the last thing we wanted is to not able to rest... she is I guess not be very verse in communicating in English but she abruptly passed my call to her colleague, who revert saying that they have check the whole hotel and there is no any fan around! Although it was quite an disappointing episode and their response, they followed up the next day.
House-keeping, is simply making up the bed, and changing of the bins and towels. So don’t expect tidiness of your loose lying clothing like many hotels.
Breakfast is average. But the room service is nice. Food is nice but some dishes may be cold. Nice dishes includes Green Curry with Chicken, Glass Noodle baked with River Prawn in Hot Pot, Pad Thai…
Overall, it is a nice place to stay with close-by message parlors and some department stores at walking distance, although location is rather out of the way from the main shopping city. Tu-tu may be a better transporter than cab, when staying in Hip Hotel, because they can move in smaller lanes and faster. Note to travel around in BKK, once the cab driver tries to stir you to eat seafood at elsewhere, alight and take another one. Other means is MRT. The nearest one is Huay Khwang, but you may need to change from one line to another.
