Location. We moved here after a horrid experience in Sawasdee Banglumpoo (see separate review) and were truly pleased we made the move. The hotel is located down a small (albeit a little smelly) alleyway that turns into a bustling market at lunchtime but is close to main roads for taxis and only a 10 minute walk to the Skytrain station. The area feels really safe and the cut through to the Skytrain takes you past a great little supermarket to stock up on the day's essentials.
Rooms. We were given a free upgrade on our room from a basic standard to one of their suites (still not sure why but were very grateful of it – perhaps in payment for our traumatic time at Sawasdee Banglumpoo!). The room was HUGE!!! I think it is advertised as 64msq. It had a separate living area to bedroom and a mini kitchenette. There was a fridge, flat screen TV, wifi and DVD player. The room itself and its décor was a little tired and flaky – you just knew in its heyday about 20 years ago it would have been a really top notch room but it is in dire need of scrubbing up. The curtains and the carpets were stained and not all the lights worked properly making it quite dark. But given that we got it for free we cannot complain. All the rooms look to be of a reasonable size and I think that they have started smartening up the rooms one by one already.
Staff. Most of the staff go out of their way to help you. I only wish I asked one of two of them their names to recommend here. They help you with Thai translations on maps and are always smiling when you walk in or out of the hotel.
Breakfast. Lots of fresh fruit and cereal as well as bread and boiled eggs etc. Also English newspapers available each morning to read.
Noise. It is a nice quiet hotel allowing for a good night's sleep. There is a bar next door that has a large open area with a microphone and a lone singer humming along in the early hours of the evening. Yet the bar was almost deserted the whole time we were there and it never went on too late.
Common areas. As mentioned in other reviews, the corridors and carpeted areas are all a little grubby. The carpets are stained and torn and the whole place just needs modernising but its not essential in the short term.
Great value for money in an excellent location. Nothing else beats it on location and price in the area. A perfect choice for a few nights stay in Bangkok.
