We booked this hotel, partly based on the triop advisor reviews we had read, and also as we were keen to avoid featureless corporate towers that often masceade as 5* hotels. Prior to going we checked trip advisor again and were a little concerned soem of the reviews about poor service.
On arrival our fears were quickly set aside - Ariyasomvilla was a beautiful hotl, a little oasis in busy sukhumvit. Rooms were charming, with gorgeous bathrooms, comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. The staff were all very help, quiet & polite and we had no problems with being understood. The food in the restaurant was delicious, especially given the variety available at both breakfast and dinner. The owner was friendly and helpful, stopping to chat to guests and make sure all was well.
The location is away from the old town and big sites, but you are only a 5-10 min walk to sukhumvit road, with bustling market stalls, shops & restaurants and sky train station. Alternatively, we caought the local ferry along the klong and were at the Grand palace in 20 mins.
We would definitely recommend this hotel - one of the most charecterful and charming we have stayed in & definitely better than any chain hotel.

Ariyasom Villa is elegant, beautiful in its Thai style with a very good restaurant (isn't it always about the food?) and and excellent staff. People who expect everyone they deal with in a foreign country to speak their language, should stay home. The staff are patient, try hard to communicate with everyone - a smile and charades go a long way - and not once did we receive anything other than excellent service. Many of the guests spoke very little English and no Thai so communication is a daily challenge for them. We stayed 3 nights at the beginning of our trip and one night at the very end. Upon our return the young man at the front desk (the cute one with the spikey hair) greeted us with a big smile and a "Welcome back". I can't tell you how nice that was.
The rooms are clean and very comfortable. There is a problem with the lack of darkness in the rooms but it didn't keep us awake. The canal that runs along beside the pool area can be a bit noisy but that's part of life in Bangkok. David Lees personally visited each table at either breakfast or dinner and also introduced several of the guests to fruits we had never seen before (custard apple, for one).
The hotel's location made it easy to catch the sky train to the pier for a water taxi and to walk Sukumvit Road. We would definitely stay at Ariyasom should we be fortunate enough to return to Bangkok.

Beautiful environment (situated by a canal) with high standard of accommodation. Well placed for transport around Bangkok, BTS, River taxis, walking.

Apparent lack of 'rules' or formality created the feeling that you could eat, sleep or just reflect on your surroundings at your leisure, making our ten days in this lovely thai house very relaxed.

The restaurant's Thai vegetarian food is of a high standard, much better than the recommended restaurants in the area. In fact we ate there most nights.

If mosquitoes like you, take lots of "jungle formula".

We spend 4 nights at the villa and we pleasantly surprised by the tranqulity and hospitality of the hotel. We were eating fantastic food every night and loved the pool, also our 1 and 3 year old did. After a buzzing city day you really forget you actually are in a city and you can relax and feel reborn the next morning. Add one of the massages and a applecrumble, made by David, and get even more spoiled! We simply loved the villa, and will return within 2 weeks, yeah!

I am no stranger to many 4 and 5-star hotels in Bangkok from living and/or traveling here for many years, have stayed at Oriental and Four Seasons, inter alia, but my partner here was right four months ago when he said, staying at the Ariyasom Villa, you will not want to stay anywhere else in Bangkok. Truly a tropical treasure and pretty close to paradise in the heart of Bangkok. The management and staff are most accommodating, friendly, immediately reactive to honest criticism. The grounds are absolutely stunning with the amazing array of tropical plants and flowers, tended every day by a phalanx of gardeners. The open-air restaurant is warm and inviting, and again, makes you feel you are in someone's lovely Thai-style home -- which you are. The rooms also are striking and elegant in their attention to detail and in recreating the aura and atmosphere of the best Thailand always had and still has to offer -- wonderful hospitality, attention to all fine arts in the interior decoration and architecture, and modern conveniences that do not detract in any way from the pleasure of this paradise. I regard this as "my home" above any other hotel facility in Bangkok.

I stayed here when it just opened and have been staying here ever since. If you want escape the city life and stay at a traditional Thai Mansion...this is the place for you! Everything from the rooms to the restaurant is traditional Thai. Room and service both excellent! The Staff and manager are most accommodating. You will enjoy your stay here.

I took my wife's family on a trip to Thailand for Xmas '09. 16 of us stayed at Ariyasom for 4-5 nights before moving on to Koh Samui. I've been to Thailand many times and searched, in past trips, for a hotel that could deliver a Thai experience without exhibiting a high price (See Sukothai). The moment the family arrived they loved the building. It is such a wonderful blend of Thai-Colonial architecture that it is truly hard to believe the city is just beyond the garden walls. The manager and his staff were excellent. It was pleasant to have a manager who speaks English, could help me book vehicles when needed, and could have a pleasant chat in the morning over breakfast. My family loved David and his staff. They didn't care one bit if he held meetings (3-4 people max) above the spa in the massage sala. It is a hand on experience and they did an excellent job of personally taking care of us. 16 people is a lot to make happy. And needless to say some of my family members won't be staying anywhere else on return trips to Thailand. They will come back to Ariyasom.

But my family travels alot, sees alot, puts up with alot. The squabbles on this page about waiters not understanding English and managers not bending over backwards must be taken with a grain of salt. If the light is too bright in the hallway then wear the night mask they gave you in Business Class. If the mosquitoes are biting, then welcome to Thailand. If your waiter doesn't understand your order then get up, move away from your table and explain it to him. Nicely. Meet the people half way and you'll be amazed at the graciousness the next time you ask for something.

And as far as the manager is concerned, the guy is a practicing Buddhist. Of course your mild critiques are going to roll off his back. Please. What would you have him do, call you sir, click his heels and salute? That is for the Peninsula, the Oriental and others. Non-personal, stuffy, very routine. Other side of town. A little upmarket.

16 people were taken care of over a very hectic Xmas period. They will not forget it nor will they stop speaking of the experience.

If you want to see a little bit of authenticity in a city completely covered with concrete and brand names then stay at Ariyasom.

Relax and enjoy. But make sure you do the former, first. Or the latter never happens.
