We chose this place as it offers apartments as opposed to hotel rooms. This worked better as there were a group of us travelling. We booked the 3 bedroom executive room and it was HUGE! 3 very generous sized rooms, 4 bathrooms, huge living area with dining for 8 and a full, well equipped kitchen. One of the most important things (that we didn't plan for in advance) for us was the washer and dryer as we had been travelling for a couple of weeks. We got all of our laundry done whilst we were there for a few days.
The feel you get is that of a 5 star hotel. The staff are very friendly and attentive and you cannot pass anyone you see without them smiling and saying hello.
The pool area and gym are excellent. Clean and relaxing. The gym is perfectly equipped and was never busy. There is a nice little bar next to the pool serving food and drinks.
The location of the hotel on Sathorn Road makes it ideal for getting around as it is very central and not too far from the Skytrain. If like us you want night life then you are about a 5 minute walk from the lively Silom area with its clubs, bars and shows.
The price for this place was great. Although not cheap by a long shot, it was extremely good value for what we got. Free wifi was included. I will most certainly be staying here again on my next trip to Bangkok!

We are a family of three and chose the Sathorn because of their two bedroom suites. The accommodation was great, big comfy beds, lovely bathrooms and a great kitchen. The reception staff were simply superb and nothing was too much trouble for them. The pool, overlooked of course(!), was great as was the poolside bar, open till 10.30. Very relaxing! We didn't try the on-site restaurant so can't comment on this. As for location, we thought this was perfect. Close enough to Patpong (10 minute walk) and the Skytrain service to whizz you to the tourist spots but just far enough away for a bit of respite from the wonderful madness of this superb city. A great find and we would definitely use the Sathorn again.

Room Tip: Try for a higher room on the west side to enjoy the views!

We generally like to stay at Marriott Executive apartments. We like the location, the room’s layout, the pool and the gym.
However some issues keeps popping up and are quite irritating. All is based upon a stay from Dec 2013 to March 2014

Apartments:

The furniture is more and more worn down and should be looked at.
Sofas and arm chairs are not very comfortable nor “sit friendly”.
Our living room curtain was full of holes and changed after our request.
The wall decorations were missing but some small decorations were installed on request.
Some apartments as 2604 which we moved into has a mold stank. We requested and changed apartment.

Smoking

The new smoking policy at the pool area was implemented 2014 after discussion and is very questionable, indeed. It was said to start with, that a small area away from the pools was to be a smoking area but it ended up in a total different way. We were introduced to the new smoking policy by a proud member of the management.
You are now allowed to smoke around the whole pool, including the kid’s pool, except one short side of the pool. The argument is that it is not possible to change as long stayers cannot be informed or adjust themselves, as they state that they are paying for their stay at Marriott!!! One long stayer was unhappy when he was told not to smoke close to the kid’s pool!!! (Are not other no smoking guests paying for their rooms?)
Normally worldwide, a smaller area can be designated to smokers. Now at Marriott Executive Apartments Sathorn Vista it is just the opposite and smoking is also permitted around the kid's playroom and the kid’s pool area.
At the pool level 5 at MEA there are 5 sun chair for nonsmokers and for smokers :18 sun chairs + 4 tables + one bar disk and 5 sitting chairs……
When there are smokers smoking on the smoking short side of the pool or on the wooden front part of the pool, it is almost impossible to be in the pool as the smoking smog lies heavy over the water… We do really not get this so called policy… TIT or what is it….
Frankly, why cannot MEA follow Marriott US and many other hotels in Asia and become a no smoking hotel?

Rules and follow ups

There are rules and regulations at the swimming pool and in the gym that states that appropriate swimming gear and appropriate clothing shall be used in the pool and in the gym.
No one tells improperly dressed guests that these rules apply. This means guys swimming in underwear, ladies in shorts, lack of T shirts and no foot gear and/or slippers in the gym. Kids running around in the gym are not allowed according to the rules but it happens.
Most of the pool/gym staff are maybe not informed of rules and/or do not dare, with one exception, to tell the guests to follow the rules! Maybe the management has not followed up this issue with the staff…..This is more than annoying!

Improvement suggestions

If we were to improve the apartments if they were to be renovated:

Install appropriate lights in the kitchen and in the utility area (lights in the utility area is for wall decoration only)
Kitchen bench surfaces are difficult to keep clean, change them.
Dining table surface should be fixed as the surface is very sensitive for anything.
Look into replacement of old furniture and get more comfortable living room furniture.
Why not look over the wall decorations. Today no wall decorations seem to be standard.
Change the slippery flooring in the bathrooms. Why not have a sloped shower floor area, towards the drainage? In some countries this is a building norm and standard.
Why not as in e.g. the US install exhaust fans in the bathroom?
Get some good towel hangers in the bathrooms. (Today the only one is on the glass door.)
See to that a strict no smoking is followed on the no smoking floors.
(Why not e.g. as in the US or in Hong Kong make Marriott a smoke free hotel. What is really the problem?)
Other comments:
Should a 5* hotel have ragged towels at the pool?
The TV reception in the apartments is not very good. Is this a reception problem or is it a general network problem?

Promotions: Why not use a Net price in the restaurant? (Include the VAT and the service charge in the shown price). As a customer I want to know my expense. I am not interested in the cost before the VAT and service charge.
Try to avoid the XX04 room on the 20 21 22 level, as the opposite building has what we believe is a medical Clinic which is rather disturbing.
In the kid’s room the strings of the blinds are hanging down and this is not kid safe. That is an easy fix and could be fixed easily.
Walking back on Soi 4 to Marriott Executive apartment seeing the high rise with some windows full of laundry in front of you, it gives an atmosphere of a favela area or a shanti town!!!
The paperback and books left behind in the kid’s room should not really be there. The place should be in resident’s lounge.

We were an adult family of 6 in the hotel and enjoyed having 3 rooms in one apartment. The reception staff were very helpful in booking restaurants, calling taxis (and giving the drivers clear details of where we wanted to go!) and it was good to have the pool to relax by at the end of the day. Also 5 minutes walking distance of the Banyan Tree Hotel roof top bar and it's fantastic panoramic views of the city. Taxi rides were only £3 ish to anywhere we wanted to go.

We chose these apartments as we were travelling with our daughter and didn't want to get two separate hotel rooms. The standard of accommodation is lovely and we had no complaints about anything. The pool whilst being very overlooked was still great, and we had an early evening drink in the bar before going to dinner. Location is ok, quite easy to get around and around a 10 - 15 minute walk to the night markets which were fun! Would really recommend and stay again next time we're in Bangkok.
