Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok

Booked into this hotel on the recommendation of a friend, and we used it as a base for visiting Bangkok for a total of 6 days spread over 3 separate occasions (all within a few weeks).
We were most impressed by the professionalism and courtesy of all the staff we met - without exception. It is quite something for such an institution to maintain such high standards without fail at all times. The check in procedure was conducted with the utmost courtesy and consideration, and on each of our subsequent short visits we were recognised and welcomed back (and twice given upgraded rooms). The rooms, all with a river view, were of a very high standard. The furnishings and equipment were excellent and comprehensive, beds were comfortable and all was extremely clean.
The breakfast buffet was like nothing else I have experienced and the one evening meal we had here was excellent and very reasonably priced.
One tiny criticism was that hotels should not charge a service fee on meals then still leave a space on the bill for a tip - it makes us feel ungenerous and awkward deleting it, as of course, we should. Hopefully in doing so, the staff concerned did not feel slighted as they were all so outstanding

We stayed at The Chatrium Riverside for four nights in January 2014. This is a beautiful property located right on the Chao Phrya river bank. We had booked a suite. One of the rooms provided excellent view of the river. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The hotel provides a free ferry ride to Saphan Taksin. Once you get there you can access other ferries and the sky train. So getting around in Bangkok is not a problem if you are staying at this hotel. The Asiatique night market is five minutes away by taxi. The breakfast buffet was good. They provide bottled water and fresh fruits in the room everyday. The swimming pool is located on the 6th floor and provides an excellent view of Bangkok skyline. Great fitness facility too. I would definitely stay here again when I visit Bangkok.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with river view.

After an initial hiccup with our room reservation, all was made good by an upgrade to suites near the top of the building looking out over the river. The food was particularly good with the quality of the buffets so good that our children laughed. Having left the UK to escape Christmas we then discovered that the Thais do like any excuse for a party and we had to console ourselves with the fact that we were sitting outdoors on Christmas Day, eating food of our choice, as the well meaning chanteuses warbled interminably in the background.

We booked the room through the hotel own website flexible rate with breakfast. We arrived hotel with the hotel own transfers.
We were greeted by hotel representative and with no time in the car and on our way to hotel. It took approximately 40 mins.
The check in was easy and quick. We booked the room with river view. We were given the room on the 32nd floor.
The room : the room was double the size of normal standard hotel room. It was so specious high ceiling with bright lights throughout the room. The room can accommodate the family of 4 easily.
The bed : very comfortable with fluffy pillows.
The bathroom : big bathroom with separate shower and bath tub.
In the room there were two separate air-conditionings controller. There's kitchenette with a few cooking utensils and cutlery. Also small breakfast area and dining table.
*Having said the room are large enough for family of 4, I would ask for the balcony to be locked. We didn't see any key or lock to the glass door that open to balcony. I wouldn't be comfortable to have small children in this room unless the hotel can guarantee they have keys to locked the door.*
The staffs : very polite and friendly but not in your face.
The breakfast : spread out of both western and Asian buffets with hit and clod dishes. The breakfast served in the restaurant next to river. You can either sit indoor or out door.
The hotel offers free boat service to a few of landmark the like of Asiatique.
There's 7/11 at the entrance of hotel drive way.
The surrounding : you can walk from the hotel to Asiatique. It took us 15 mins. Go up to the front turn right. There are so many street food, proper restaurants and side walk / pop up restaurants on this road. There are a few pubs also on this road.

We booked 5 nights in a superior room , initial impressions were excellent room large well appointed, plenty of help full staff. Air conditioning kept the room cool and a great view of the river from our balcony.

About 7 am the following morning we were awoken to a dull and continuous thud , a jackhammer piling concrete posts into the floor about 50 yards away - this continued throughout the day together with other assorted building noises.

Located on the 9th floor and in theory with double glazing you would have thought the noise would have been muted. But no , the pool on the 4 th floor was afflicted with the same unwholesome racket.

It's a shame but as they were only just starting building am sure that it sets to continue for months if not years.

The hotel itself is modern - bar and restaurant areas excellent - our only major complaint was the service outside overlooking the river - where on one occasion we weren't even asked if wanted a drink during dinner, at breakfast in same area you actually had to flag a waiter down to get coffee and used plates were frequently left untouched until the end of service.

Not what you would expect in a 5 star hotel

Bizarre as the inside service was very good.

It's not cheap and drinks in particular were as expensive as good bars in England, the quality however was good. Ferry to the sky train was frequent and free, so despite a slightly remote location it should/could have been very relaxing.

Room Tip: Check if the building work is ongoing and if so. Try and get a room on opposite side or go high.

We stayed at The Chatrium for two nights in late December. Fantastic facilities, friendly and attentive staff. The location wasn't a problem as they had a free ferry to the sky train or other ferries. All in all it was a great stay and would definitely stay again when we come to Bangkok.
