We arrived after two very long flights, we were not due to check into the rooms for 4 hours, the duty manager could see we were worn out ... He checked us in straight away.... Not only did he do this, he also up graded the rooms to suits ( 2 suits & 2 rooms ) very impressed , the rooms were great . The hotel location on the river was great, the staff were fantastic . Great city , looking forward to a return visit .
I sorry I can trembler the manager's.. Special thanks Frank

We stayed at the Chatrium for a few nights to start off our honeymoon in Thailand (Jan '14). It was overall, a pretty decent stay, and from what I have read about other hotels in Bangkok, I am not sure one could find better.

Upon arriving, the staff was super friendly and they helped us with our baggage and getting settled right away. We were upgraded to a view of the river, which was great! We had a room on the 8th floor and the view was already pretty spectacular...you do not need anything higher than that to see a great overview of the river and skyline on the opposite side.

The good things: Service was excellent all around, and room service was quite affordable...we highly recommend getting room service vs. spending the same amount for very little food at the Starbucks onsite. The portions are enormous for the price, and I can highly recommend the "Healthy Breakfast". Room service did mess up one breakfast order pretty badly, but it was just a little problem due to speaking English, and they apologized profusely while offering to bring the correct order right away and give us free coffee. We cannot honestly fault them for such a thing, because...we are in Thailand...issues with English can happen....so no big deal.

The room (can't remember if it was some sort of suite...sorry) was pretty large and clean. Beds were also great...very comfortable and extremely clean. The bathroom was well kept and the shower had a nice pressure. TV and channels were decent.

The gym had enough to keep you busy and all the basics were there. From what I remember, they had 2 treadmills, 3 bikes, and an elliptical. Also, a bench, a light selection of dumbbells (20 kg max, I think), and several machines for leg extension, military press, etc. were available. Water, towels, and showers were all there as well.

Taxis take about 10-20 minutes to order, unless one just happens to be waiting outside. There is a Starbucks and 7-Eleven onsite, and it is probably best to just grab a ton of water from 7-Eleven for the entirety of your stay...the hotel even recommends not drinking from the tap. Didn't use the pool, though it looked very large and pretty nice.

Tip: The Chatrium has its own dock on the riverside, with a free ferry running all day which will take you to Sathorn Pier just up the river. If you want to access the SkyTrain for all your Bangkok travels, this is one of the main stations. If you want to access all other river ferries, this is also one of the main piers. From there, you can pay 40 Baht per person to ride the "tourist" boat to the main Wat locations up the river (40 Baht on the tourist boat is the one-way price for as far as you want to go...if one stop, 40 Baht...if 9 stops, also 40 Baht). To get to Wat Arun, get off at Pier 8 and take the local boat (the one with the turnstile that costs 3 Baht) across the river. To get to Wat Pho (leaning Buddha), you can get off at Pier 8 or 9 and walk. We got off at Pier 9 and did the Grand Palace first, and then walked to Wat Pho, which was just a couple blocks south.

The not-so-good: The Chatrium's location is a bit challenging. You will always build in extra time for taking a ferry or a taxi. I have never stayed at other locations in Bangkok, but our other stops in Bangkok were the main shopping and restaurant districts (45 min. to an hour taxi ride to the northeast), and the Wat Pho, Wat Arun, and Grand Palace (30-45 min. via ferry). There may be closer hotels (perhaps not as nice), if these are your destinations.

The amount of noise at this hotel, perhaps because of our balcony overlooking the river, was less than desirable. If you have been to Thailand, you understand just how much noise-pollution those longtail boats can produce, and I can say that the traffic is frequent. On top of that, there is some major construction going on right next door to the hotel. Now, these are things that the hotel has no control over whatsoever, so I cannot really fault them for it. It just needs to be mentioned that we were woken up often quite early, everyday due to these two factors...something that honeymooners are looking to avoid a bit. :) The entirety of our stay was during the week, so unfortunately, I cannot speak for the environment on the weekend.

All in all, a great hotel...and I really cannot compare it to much else in Bangkok, due to having stayed in only one other hotel that was way outside the city. I would definitely recommend a stay here, but you should also temper your expectations if you are looking for paradise.

Room Tip: if during the week, and you want to sleep in, I wouldn't recommend a river-facing room

Stayed here over early January as 3 girls and the junior suite with one extra bed was delightfully spacey and comfortable.

From the moment we arrived and had our bags taken care of, we were in really good hands.

You get the feeling that they are always working to improve things (breakfast/surroundings) and not simply maintaining a minimal standard.

The free ferry up and down to the bts station is something we enjoyed every day and added to the trip as a whole. Stay with them with no regrets! We are definitely coming back!

I stayed with my sister in Jan'14 from 19 till 23, while there were riots in the centre of Bangkok.
Although it was quite peaceful there.
Chatrium had a convenient shuttle boat setvice from hotel to nearest BTS station Saphan Taksin, from where you can travel to shopping centre - Siam Paragon, Central World, MBK etc.
We had riverside room. There was an ongoing construction, so it disturbed us once in the morning, but it's just an episode.
The hotel has gym whichI didn't try and we saw pool, but didn't try it as we'll.
Overall it is a good hotel to stay.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter. You should upgrade your staying with breakfast.

Chatrium is exactly what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Great service, beautiful spacious rooms, amazing views and luxurious beds. It doesn't hurt to have a Starbucks and 7 Eleven on site. My wife and I had ordered the city view which was cheaper but when we arrived, they asked if we wanted to be upgraded to the river view which was $50 more for three nights (cheaper than if we had done it online) and we said yes. Best decision we ever made. 90 degree view of all river from balcony to bedroom (we got the suite). Pool looks amazing but we were there in January so a little cold for swimming (not heated). If shopping for jewelry, avoid the hotel staff as they have a deal with Chin Jewelry Company. We took the free shuttle ride because we had other things to do in the area but the Chin Jewelry Company is way too overpriced. Go directly to Ban Mo district as they sell more wholesale prices. AVOID the River Barge restaurant! You pay for the view but the food is pedestrian. They got my wife's order wrong even though she reminded them twice (she speaks Thai) and they sent out fried spring rolls when they were supposed to be fresh ones. When we questioned it, they said they didn't have them. Then why are they on the menu? The food was bland. There are amazing restaurants in Bangkok which are pretty accessible (don't travel during rush hour or expect delays 4 to 7pm about 30 to 40 minutes). Patio Restaurant in Sukumwit Soi 26. Amazing food and great prices. Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert! Not packed although they should be. Also Opus Wine bar in Silom on 64 Pan Road. Great italian and extensive wine list. Yes, the good wines can run $60 but you trade off with the food which is way underpriced for the taste. Make sure to add the truffled risotto to one of your selections. I gave the hotel 4 stars due to the restaurant, scam with the Chen Jewelry Co and we left at 4 am in the morning and the skeleton crew did not help us with luggage (they were late) and forgot to call our taxi (staff is usually VERY attentive). It could have been a big deal but our cabbie drove like a bat out of hell to get us to the airport in plenty of time. All and all, great experience and I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: River View

arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon after a long flight. the prople at reception were very helpful and switched on. gave us a free upgrade as it was my wifes' birthday. i emailed them that i wanted a cake and they made it for free !!!!. they had building work going on next door which is not the hotel's fault, but it was annoying !!!.
room was very spacious and nice. breakfast had a very good selection for veg and non veg. location was really nice and different. having stayed in and around sukhumvit previously i thought it nice to make a change. No issues whatsover

Room Tip: go big, dont be afraid to ask for an upgrade either.

From time to time the hustle and bustle of everyday living in Bangkok can take its toll so we look to have a night or two away in a part of town we don't normally frequent and just kick back and relax as tourists.
This time we chose the Chatrium and were very glad we did. From the moment we arrived (noon and our room was ready!) 'til the moment we left (7pm the next day as the hotel were doing a special deal where you could stay until as late as 8pm) we were well looked after and had a wonderful stay.
The room was incredible (we paid a modest premium for a river view) whih was a corner room (as most of the rooms facing the river appear to be thanks to the building's design), beautifully appointed, very modern and spotlessly clean.
The pool gets busy, but there appear to be sufficirnt sun loungers and if non are available, the ever willing staff manage to magic more out of thin air.
The buffet breakfast was as good as any hotel in this range with well cooked food and great choice.
We had the dim sum biffet in the hotel's Chinese restaurant and I will certainly going back for more. The Japanese restaurant in the adjacent building is also well worth a visit.
All in all, a top place to stay and when this old town starts getting me down I'll be back.
TIP: Pay the premium and get a room facing the river with a balcony. It is well worth it.
