We first stayed at this hotel at the end of November 2009, for three nights/2 full days, on our way to Australia and New Zealand. Most of the superlatives have been written by many others so I really just want to agree with them. To look at, in the foyer, it is quite minimalistic, not the fancy shmancy of others nearby. But elsewhere........
We had a suite overlooking the river and it was anything but minimalistic. Lots of space and comforts and little extras that show you they care. They even took our photograph (in case we absconded?) but on our last evening there was a framed photograph of us on a table in our room. Indeed, all the staff were attentive, helpful and courteous without being intrusive. The restaurant was very pleasant with good evening meals and the breakfast outstanding. I did suggest that they needed to increase the background music selection as it became repetitive.
Their river ferry service gave easy access to the skytrain (6 minute ride) and during the day a 15 minute service. At night it switched to 30 minutes and it might have been helpul to have finished later than 10.30pm although a taxi from the train station costs peanuts,
It was so good we booked the hotel again for the return leg of our journey leading up to New Year' Eve, 2 nights/3 days. We arrived at 5.15am on the 29th and departed at midnight 40am on January 1st and the hotel kindly found us somewhere to grab a few hours sleep in the morning of arrival (2 bedroom suite with three bathrooms, no less) and looked after our suitcases after we booked out, even giving us access to showers and changing rooms before we left.
They arranged two day trips for us with our own private taxi. The day trip to the floating market and lots more was exceptional with a first-rate inclusive lunch.
I do have a quibble. You tell people where you stayed and they are puzzled. You ask a taxi driver to take you back to the hotel and you end up directing him or her. Come on Chatrium, I know you are great, let the world know you are there.
Would I recommend this hotel? Friends, strangers, anyone visiting Bangkok. Simply the best
