Travellers Rest - a quiet haven in busy, busy Bangkok

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Sept 2012
We stayed here for one night (late night arrival of 4:00am) between travelling from Koh Tao and visiting Khao Yai National Park and again for 3 pre-booked nights at the end of our trip. The rooms are perfectly clean and well looked after. You can tell the owners are house proud and want their customers to feel at home. The night staff are accommodating and friendly, booking us in at 4 o'clock in the morning when we arrived in Bangkok earlier than we expected. The manageress/owner is a lovely, kind and incredibly helpful lady and we are so glad that we were welcomed to be part of her lovely establishment and home for our stay. We had laundry done and left or back packs while we were up north, there was a charge for both but it was nominal. All the staff were helpful and kind. I cannot recommend this place more. Perfect for families, couples, friends, for business or pleasure. Lovely rooms and lots of space to relax and take it easy if Bangkok gets a little too much :)

Sam Sen Sam is a great place to stay in Bangkok, it was our base camp. We stayed here 4 times during our 24 days long trip through Thailand.

The staff is great, rooms and facilities are awesome, beautiful colonial wood rooms!
It is peaceful and cozy, it was a pleasure to relax in their lounge every morning with their yummy breakfast.

If you plan to go to bangkok, stay definitely here! Cheap, clean and helpful!

We stayed here for 5 nights in May and then for one more at the end of our holiday before catching a flight home from Bangkok. It's definitely perfect.

Best thing about Sam Sen is how quiet and comfortable it is away from the busy and exhausting city right outside - the location is very convenient for the city centre but the quiet soi 100 times more pleasant than Khao San Road or similar. The communal area is very cute and pleasant to sit it, the staff are very friendly and remembered us 3 months later when we returned. Very helpful with information and maps, lending umbrellas, and the minibus service to the airport was extremely convenient, which we were worried about because of our early flight.

Bathrooms were all sparkling clean as were the rooms, breakfast was great and convenient and the little coffee bar was welcomed a lot by two quite jaded tourists. We'd definitely stay here again and have very fond memories.

Sam Sen Sam place is a great place because of :

- the location : not too far from anything, but in a quiet and nice neighborhood, walking distance from Kao San Road and Rambuttri
- the feel : it is small, with nice furniture, and lovely open-air common areas where you can sit with you friends, relax, have a drink...
- the price : the rooms are clean and quite new, wifi in the commons
- the staff : everyone's really helpful and lovely at the desk

Would definitely recommend it !

I very much enjoyed my stay here. My room was comfortable, secure and had 'personality'. The staff were very helpful and friendly, organized my train ticket for me and offered to help with anything else I needed. Breakfast was good too!
The taxi from the airport was fairly cheap. I found the location good as I wanted to be within walking distance of Grasshopper Adventures for a cycling tour. The ferry pier was about a ten minute walk away. There is a local market close by with heaps of street food stalls.
The location might be slightly out of the way for some peoples needs. Even so the rates are cheap so a few taxi rides might be worth it if you don't want to walk to the jetty.
I recommended staying here.
