“Luxx XL”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2013

Stayed at Luxx XL for 4 nights over New Years in a two bedroom suite. We booked quite late and not knowing Bangkok well we took a stab at this new hotel and location. We thoroughly enjoyed Bangkok.

On the positive side the rooms were nice and clean and well configured and a good size for a family. The staff were enthusiastic and friendly. The location is acceptable but perhaps not to everyone liking. Its a reasonable walk up to the Skytrain and shopping district. There are a few restaurants nearby and the local street food cart did very well out of my kids with his pork buns.

There are a number of negatives: one of our bathrooms had a really bad smell which they were not able to fix; beds are very hard; room lighting was poor with a number of lights switches not working. The breakfast which is included in the room rate was fairly limited.

We have enjoyed our 3 day stay at LUXX XL very much. The staff is very friendly and very helpfull. The hotel is quite new. The outside and the interior is thought through, which you can see in every detail. It is a very modern hotel, with all the luxury you are looking for if you want a stay with comfort. Wifi, for instance, is provided per floor and works flawlessly on multiple devices.

The hotel is situated in a quite sidestreet of Thanon Lang Suan and is therefor a haven of peace where you can relax after a day of the ever busy city of Bangkok. At the reception, they play lounge music to get you in the right atmosphere. Allthough the hotel is not in the centre, all the places of interest can be easily reached by walk or taxi.

We have stayed in one of the regular studio's, which was more than enough for us (2 adults). The room was very clean and we have slept like a log in a great bed. Breakfast was very Western style and was well presented.  This brings me to a few minor issues: some more exotic fruits would have nice. Also, it was very cold in the breakfast room. A hairdryer would have been nice too.

All in all, a great hotel with great staff, which we would certainly recommend!

I really wanted to love this hotel and was very much looking forward to my stay. A great location and friendly staff = yes. Warm and funky interior design = yes.
Operations and Management = very poor.
I am a pretty easy-going travellor but I experienced many disappointments and frustrations:
1) My balcony door (on 3rd floor) did not lock and this was not fixed over my 5 day stay.
2) The shower curtain is a 'make-shift', plastic add-on which falls down all the time. Even when I was not in the shower... it just fell down.
3) 2 light bulbs were out and were not replaced over 5 days (and numerous requests to do so).
4) The restaurant was closed on Jan 1st, but I was not notified of this upon check-in. Only page 1 of the extensive room service menu was available after 5pm (from a Chinese restaurant next door)
5) There were a lot of tiny ants in my kettle.
6) The A/C fan is VERY noisy no matter what speed you set it at. No one from Engineering ever appeared to see if it could be fixed. (make sure you don't get room 312)
7) Cigarette butts from upper guestrooms are scattered all over the roof of the dining room directly below my balcony.
8) My balcony was not clean and there is no furniture to sit out side.
9) My room did not get cleaned on my 2nd last day. Upon my return to the hotel at 7pm the Front Desk staff told me Housekeeping had already gone home. A boy from the Front desk did his best to clean it up for me by 9:30pm.
10) Thai speaking friends trying to leave messages for me were met with a great deal of frustration on the phone. I never received a single message from the Front Desk, even though 5 had been left.
11) There are about 24 items on the Mini Bar's list of selections but there are only 5 items available in the fridge itself. I asked for some of the others but was told "sorry, don't have".
12) There is no mention of a charge for out-going local calls from your room but upon checking out I was given a bill for the calls I had made. Front Desk staff did cancel this when I mentioned just a few of the items listed above.
13) The very, very dead tree on the 3rd Floor's lift lobby/balcony should be removed.

This place could be a great little hotel in the middle of the city, but it is sorely lacking in very basic hospitality operations. Management never appeared once while I was there. No apologies, explanations, etc.
Therefore, stay at your own risk - you've been warned.

Quite a cool place to stay ,fantastic breakfast, best we had in two weeks, smart location with a small lovely pool.Pool was very chlorinated, maybe a little to much but it is a treat in the middle of a very hot city.
Only small issue is very young reception staff didn,t know a great deal about Bangkok, attractions shopping etc they tried very hard but communication was a little difficult.may i suggest they have one older member of staff on hand to handle transport enquiries etc.have to say my Thai is very poor so might also be my fault
Small gripe for an otherwise very nice hotel with kind staff.
Most efficient lift of any hotel

Millions of people rushing every where and then you go to your beautiful room in a hotel hidden off the street to simplicity, beauty, garden pool to melt the days touring and tired feet into peace. Beautiful park near by to join in marshal arts, yoga, skate, bird watch, gardens and beautiful trees. Blocks from the sky train to bring you everywhere quickly and wonderful spa a block away. Great price and do get their breakfast!

Room Tip: The studio rooms on the 2nd floor were quite large with balcony and lovely bath shower. Spacious wit...

Stayed for 3 nights. The staff was great-- very helpful. We had a mixup with Hotel.com- our info included breakfast, the hotel info from Hotel.com said no. The staff emailed Hotel.com and worked it out so our breakfast was included. By the way the breakfast was excellent and very well presented. The pool is small but we enjoyed it. Would definitely stay again.
The location is good- close to Lumphini Park and sky train. i love running in morning at Lumphini.
