We stayed here for two nights after returning from Koh Samui on our honeymoon. Bangkok in May is unbelievably humid and for that reason if you are spending even just a couple of days in Bangkok, my tip is it is worth staying somewhere that has a swimming pool or better amenities. It is right to say that the Bhuthorn has been well converted but its size and status means that it not the most comfortable place to stay. The shower rooms are tiny and in the Nara room, the toilet overlooks where people eat breakfast. The location is close to the some of the large tourist sites such as the Grand Palace but is actually very difficult for taxis and tuk tuks to find even with the map provided so to get out accross the city is hard. This added to the stress of getting about in a limited time frame. I am not an advocate of anonymous 5 star hotels which is why I chose this bed and breakfast but it didn't live up to our expectations. We were not offered afternoon tea and there was no coffee or tea facilities in the room or 'local finger snacks' as described on the website which there should have been for approx £80 a night.

There were also cockroaches scurrying around the ground floor.

We were offered the limousine pick up for 1500 THB (approx £30) which I took up because I was concerned about the ease of getting to the accommodation given some of the reveiws plus we were offered a london cab which I thought would be nice for our honeymonn. The London cab was changed (with notice in fairness although short) to a rather dirty old saloon car (the alternative car was not with notice). On our return to the airport the same journey in a public taxi cost 300 THB (£6). A return trip later in our holiday showed that it was in fact easy to get a public taxi from the airport as the staff speak good english and it again cost about 300 THB. I think it would be nicer for the bed and breakfast to explain that this to guests via e-mail so they have a choice. Trying to book things from around the other side of the world means you are in their hands to some degree.

However the young men who worked there are extremely helpful and sweet and the breakfasts absolutely delicious. You do get to see a less sanitised version of Bangkok and the restaurant Chote Chitr was round the corner but I just feel that while it is offering the more authentic accommodation experience the price to stay are not authentic.

Although we only had a one-night stay in The Bhuthorn, we can’t recommend it highly enough. From the friendly welcome we received upon arrival to our cool and airy room, tastefully decorated and with a large comfortable bed, The Bhuthorn is an oasis of calm and tranquility in the middle of the city. The breakfast set us up for the day – yoghurt, salad, cooked eggs and ham, croissants and fresh fruit, all freshly prepared and served.
This B&B is ideally situated and within walking distance of many attractions. Highly recommended and definitely on our list for another stay next time we visit Bangkok.
