“Pleasant Stay At The Bhuthorn”
Reviewed 5 March 2011

I decided on staying at the Bhuthorn after reading all the great reviews and wanting to stay in a more authentic place versus a big hotel. Also, we wanted to be close to the major sights around Old Town. One of the main reasons I booked here was because of all the rave reviews on Chitlada, the owner and how helpful she was. Well, we were there 4 days and never saw Chitlada once, which was very disappointing. I even inquired about her whereabouts and was told she would show up the next day..which she didn't. Although the staff was nice, I felt their English was limited which didn't allow us to really get a lot of advice/insights. So, if you are counting on Chitlada to be there, you may want to doublecheck on that.

Overall, the place was very quaint and we stayed in the Nara room, which was nice and roomy. I would say that because of the street noise, it can get quite noisy, so bring a pair of earplugs.

I would pass on the airport pickup which is around $40. When I asked about the AOT pickup versus a cab, I was told that AOT knows how to get to the inn. Well, our London Cab didn't know how to get the inn and had to call. I think the Inn needs to draft better directions to the location....maybe give drivers directions to the main interection or something. We took a cab back to the aiport and it was less than 400 baht.

We enjoyed our stay there, but wish we would have met the hostess.

As we have visited Thailand a number of times now we have generally found the smaller the establishment the better the service is. All the favourable reviews on The Bhuthorn are pretty well spot on if you have had enough of large hotels and would like to get to know the local people this is the place to start. We found booking through The Bhuthorn's website quick & efficent Chitlada is a gracious lady and great hostess. It was a great place to base ourselves to explore the local area. One tip if you get the chance take a walk to the flower market we went in the evening before dinner and it was an unexpected highlight this visit. I don't think I can add anything else that has not already been said in previous reviews.

We were a party of 6 adults and 3 kids, ranging from age 3 to 12, and we filled the entire boutique hotel. An upstairs room offers a sitting area, a bedroom for parents, and a loft for the kids -- very convenient for a family. The staff welcomed us graciously and provided for our every need, including elegant breakfasts and excellent recommendations for our time in the city. The Bhuthorn is a renovated building in old Bangkok, showing confidence that the area will gr4adually be refitted for visitors to the city. Meanwhile, it feels like a family neighborhood, with small shops, food stalls, and a small green square where locals gather. If you are looking for commodious space and flashy amenities, look elsewhere. But if you want old-world charm and gentle hospitality (and can handle steep steps for two of the three guest rooms), you will find the Bhuthorn a delightful home for your stay.

We stayed 5 nights at the Bhuthorn in January 2011. It was a lovely place to stay as it was a traditional Thai house and quite unlike the large impersonal international hotels where you could be staying anywhere in the world . Our room was lovely. It was very individual and very clean and comfortable. The staff were wonderful. On our return from sightseeing every afternoon we were greeted with tea and various lovely treats. Highly recommended

After three days of roughiung it looking after eleophants at "ElepantStay' (see separate review) we spoilt ourselves with our last day of our holiday at The Bhuthorn.
We are in the accommodation industry owning three self-contained 4.5 STAR properties in the Barossa Valley so we know a bit about how things should be done. The Bhuthorn does it all. quality, charm, ambience, service, style, excellence - these are the words you use to describe your stay at this special place.
Yes we were spoilt with the best room but we checked out the others and they too are of similar quality just a bit smaller.
Be it a night or a week you deserve to spoil yourself with a stay at The Bhuthorn.
Hint for getting a taxi to take you there - ask them to go to the Grand Palace then direct them from there - we had a hell of a time getting one to take us!

Stayed here for 3 nights in clean but small room. Large double bed was the most uncomfortable bed I'd ever slept on, being rock hard. Bathroom was ok, no bath but a decent shower. Air con and free water in room. Staff always on hand and very helpful, their afternoon iced tea was a delight. Their breakfasts were also delightful, with traditional Thai offerings as well as Western dishes. 10 minute walk to Grand Palace and 20 minutes to Khao San Road. Would I stay here again? Yes, if they had softer beds and took at least 33% of their price. Also, if coming from airport, do not book the airport transfer. We paid 1500 baht, the journey back to the airport was less than 500 baht on a metered taxi.

We stayed here as part of a Christmas/New Year's trip.
Awesome location - 10 min walk from Grand Palace, 20 min from Reclining Buddha
Staff was terrific. Very helpful. Excellent English, willing to help flag down cabs, tuk tuks.
Quaint place with just 3 rooms. Very intimate.
Breakfasts were included on our stay.
Fabulous cappuchinos, and fresh fruit and yogurt and croissants.
But too much oil on fried eggs and ham, which was cold cut variety.
Afternoon tea with homemade coconut icecream or sticky rice with mango was also a great way to recoup after a hot day of touring Bangkok.
One other small criticism - little insulation between floors. If you are staying on ground floor, you will hear every footstep from guests staying in two second floor rooms.
Overall, deserving of its high ranking.
