This is our kids favourite of our 5 week trip. Good family rooms, great pool located on the riverside and best of all, cheap (we paid about 45AUD per night in peak season!). It is located a little "out" of the main areas of Bangkok but it really isn't a big deal. You have access to cheap ferry crossing, and a tuk-tuk leaves every half hour to the closest skytrain station (it is also an easy 10 minute walk). Breakfast is ok, room service was fine however we ate mostly from the street outside - and thoroughly recommend the pad thai, soups, bakery and the thai iced tea from all of the stalls there. Eveything you need is on the strip outside the hotel (laundry, massage, 7/11, street food) - and it doesn't feel like you are in a super touristy area either. We found it easy to get around. My only wish is that you could catch a ferry from the hotel, you need to walk about 5-10min. Things to be aware of: Taxis apparently don't like to take you back there at night - we could not get a meter taxi a number of times to get back to the hotel and we refused to pay 600bht (!!) from sukhumvit so ended up catching a sky train at 10pm ish and then walked back to hotel from train station (very safe). Hotel is very helpful with organising taxis and gave us recommendations for eating out as well (ignore the taxis that sit outside the perimeter of the hotel). Overall it was well worth it for the money, but I couldn't help feeling that I was a bit out of the action (for shopping especially), so when we returned a couple of weeks later we stayed in Siam. I do recommend the Ibis for families on a budget. I'd consider staying there again.

Room Tip: Get a higher floor - and families choose the family room with the double bed and bunks - great value...

Budget hotel , great value for money, no frills , what you see is what you get , its a 2star hotel for 2star prices but worth to try.
Positive things ,
the price, the locations along the river, nice to have breakfast outside with riverview, hotel is relativly new, clean , pool with many sunbeds, vouchers for internet at reception for free. Shuttle service to skytrain, or 10walk, or walk to riverside to take little ferry 3,5bath pp to other side, taksin skytrain.
Negative things,
Don/t expect high service level, it/s a budget hotel, rooms can be noisy due to thin walls and loud neighbors, breakfast not too expensive enough choice but can be chaotic as staff has no clue what they are doing, are moody, slow service (or better, no service ..)
Staff very young, unproffessional could do with extra training english and hospitality.
Lunch , kind of tapas choice menu, not too expensive , but again very very slow service at restaurant (outside with riverview)
Cleaning of rooms , below standart ...needs to improve.

But once more , great value for money, quiet location in a big city, i would go back !

The IBIS Bangkok Riverside just needs a few tweaks (i.e. some attention to detail - nothing that management can't cure) and it will be a stellar budget option and a steal. For now, it is almost there, but has some details to be ironed out.

The pool, grounds, and outdoor terrace and restaurant are beautiful and frankly unexpectedly nice at this price point. It is great to be on the river -- especially since I was there for a conference and had to be at the hotel all-day long. The breakfast buffet is delicious, generous and varied. The lunch is pretty good, too.

However, the staff can be a bit clueless. Notwithstanding the fact that our conference organizer told the hotel I needed an early check-in AND my colleague who arrived the day before I did made sure to double check for me, when I arrived I was told that not only did I not have an early check-in, but that my reservation was for the next day. I did eventually get into a room but . . . "your reservation is for tomorrow" is not what you want to hear after flying all night! There were other similar snafus.

The rooms are fine - typical budget chain hotel. The bathroom could have been a bit cleaner. The walls are thin and unfortunately the TVs are set into the wall so I was kept up by a neighbor who was blasting his TV. I eventually called the front desk and they got the person to turn off his TV at 1 a.m. He turned it back on at 6 a.m. I changed rooms and it was quieter. The bed in the second room had a big hole/gouge/indentation in the mattress - sort of like a memory foam indentation that didn't snap back into place. Also, the white sheets in room number two had a bit of stain but the hotel sent someone to change that right away.

In terms of location, the hotel is a bit out of the center/tourist areas, but the area is charming. The main street outside the hotel has some delicious little local places to eat and it is fun to ride the little ferry across the river to catch the tourist ferry. You can easily visit the main temples, Chinatown, the flower market and things that are off the river by boat. You can ride the free shuttle to the Skytrain to transfer to Siam Square. It takes 1 hour by public transport to the airport, including time for the hotel's shuttle, although I would leave 1.25 hours to be sure.

Basically you should stay here as some of the other reviewers said if you want to be on the river and feel like you are staying at a luxury hotel (when you are in the common areas) while still paying a down-market price. But to get this you need to be willing to take a bit more time to get to other places in town and deal with less than 5 star levels of service.

Room Tip: The higher the better for the views!
