best value in bangkok -- hands down

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Jul 2011
Many old areas of Bangkok are a little scummy though full of adventure, so finding a good clean hotel for a great price is difficult. Sure, there's your average four star high rise for quadruple the price but they are not really any better than this one for what you want from a hotel. There are hostels and backpacker spots, sure, down alleys and choked with fetid smells, too. Nouvo is none of that! I am seriously so impressed. It looks like a real hotel from the outside though of course surrounded by the typical hovels near Koh San Road its easy to stand out, but on the inside... its beautiful. The rooms are spacious and clean. The lobby is beautiful and has some nice artwork; the whole place is designed with some style. Good place to get some sleep, not noisy or near nightlife to keep you up, but close enough if you want it. The buffet breakfast was really not just good, but boardering on great (omlettes made to order, spicy squid, chicken in cream sauce, fried chicken in a light tomato sauce, french toast, etc, perhaps ten dishes in all, all delicious). Heck, we even went back for lunch, with some indian and western parts of the menu too! Rooftop pool! Free wifi! Complimentary water in your room! Complimentary rooftop bar drink ticket! No problem with the staff, they were patient and kind despite our several requests for extra service. We booked through agoda and I don't know if that supplied us with the extras, but I could see these guys double their price and I still wouldn't complain. Nice location near the temples and the King's Palace and Koh San Road. On the way in my wife said, "what did you get us into?" looking at the slightly scummy area near Koh San Road, but when we got inside she changed her mind completely. So far this has been a hotel I would not hesitate to reccommend to anyone coming to Bangkok who is smart enough to look for a value by reading Trip Advisor reviews.

I stayed here when it first opened and I loved it... the location was great, the food was nice and the room was really clean and comfortable. The price was reasonable as well. I will hopefully get to stay here again...

In terms of location, khaosan rd is only a short walk away, so I got to experience the hustle and bustle of that whilst being able to come back to the quite immediate surroundings of this hotel.

Stayed here for business purpose and I was happy to have chosen this hotel, friendely staff good food (the Shis Kebab is wonderfull) and a nice pool and fitness room for recreational purposes. All that for an very reasonable price. Would definately go back their if I need to be near the Khao San Area again.

We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2011 and 3 nights in July 2008. Both times were great. The location is fab, literally 5 mins walk from Koh San Road, and really central for most sights in Bangkok. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are good, fairly basic but everything you need is there - fridge, wardrobe, safe, tv, towels etc. Good hotel in terms of convenience, they will callt axis for you so you don;t have ti argue with the rip off merchants in the street, book trips, exchange money and have internet cafe. We didnt eat here so I can;t comment on the food, but overall great value for money and would certainly return.

We booked this hotel from Sta travel when we booked our flights so we probably paid more than we should have. We travelled around Thailand for a month and this was one of the worst places we stayed.
The room was spacious but the shower room was very grimey and had holes in the wall.
The wrost thing was that you could only use the aircon with the main strip light on so you couldnt be cool at night unless you had a bright light on all night. We were waking up at 5am boiling hot and having to put the light on just so we could have the aircon on. It was ridiculous!
That part of Bangkok is wonderful and so we didnt want to go very far away. We left New world city hotel and went to Fortville Guesthouse which was great, very cheap, very very clean and in a perfect location near the park and the river.

Stayed at the hotel a few days ago..The hotel was fine, just like the photos seen. Room looked old but it was spacious. There were slippers and bath-robe in the cupboard. Air-cond was fine, shower was good. I found good bargain at PYOTravel and it cost me only RM96/USD32 for a double room with breakfast + welcome drinks. Since we are muslim travellers, the hotel was really what we wanted. There were two halal restaurants at the hotel. The price was affordable too. There's also a halal stall nearby the hotel. Try to ask the staff there. The staff was friendly and helpful. There were computers with internet connection at the lobby. Chargeable, of course! There's a new hotel with swimming pool connected to this hotel. I can't remember the name of this new hotel. It is from the same management. Since we were in a hurry, we booked the hotel taxi to get to the airport the next morning. The cost was 550bath. I knew it was slightly higher than normal taxi but the service was good and i didn't have to find a taxi in the morning to get to the airport. A tuk tuk driver asked us for 2000bath to get to the airport. Ridiculous! Beware of the tuk tuk drivers, u really need to bargain with these people. There was one time, the driver asked us for 500bath to get to Siam Square and we bargained until we got 80bath. Such a big difference! U can walk to Khaosan Night Market, just a few blocks from the hotel. And there are other night markets nearby too. Some people say Khaosan Road night market closes every Monday, but we were there on Monday and it was opened. To get to the Grand Palace will cost u 40-50bath, if u hire a tuk tuk...Nothing more than that. If they ask u for more, that means they are trying to rip u off.
