“A unique opportunity to stay on the Chao Phraya river”
Reviewed 18 February 2012

We stayed here for 4 nights in December 2011 and staying at Loy La Long provides the tourist with a wonderful opportunity to watch the Bangkok river life float, motor and karaoke by.

You need to remember that you are staying in a small refurbished teak house not a mass hotel so don't expect all the usual amenities but in return you are rewarded by living on the river within a temple complex that is on the edge of Chinatown - close to an amazing array of food, services (fantastic massages) and culture as well as easy transport links of the MRT and the river taxis.

The communal areas were great and the breakfast were also very good.

We would stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Blue Room which was lovely but a little cramped so I'd recommend the Green Room...

Loy La Long is a true B&B. We thoroughly enjoyed sundowners on the river while chatting with other guests. The service was fabulous. Breakfasts were hearty and delectable. The rooms were cozy. Overall the interior design maintains the rustic charm of the original boat house, yet was obviously very meticulously and tastefully revamped. This is not one of those ubiquitous spa, massage, and swan towel hotels. You can stay at the Sheraton for 3 times the price if you want an overpriced glass of wine and cookie-cutter rooms. If you're looking for a unique and personal experience, this is the place.

Room Tip: Print out a map for your taxi driver!

You don't stay at loy la,you live there.
It's like a home from home, right in the centre of china town.
The owner(think her name in chin)is the one of the nicest people I have ever met,and I have met alot of people!
You are welcomed into there home like one of the family.
The hole place is like something you will not see any wear in Bangkok..
The wood building, the inside decor, and the location are totally amazing.even the temple location is so "different".
We did a reckie mission to see wher it is,which I would recommend,as a lot off the taxi drivers still don't know wear it is.
If you are going too china town,it's a 2 minute walk, and can save a lot of hassle.
This was a stay I will never forget,I will be talking about it foever.
I will try to add some photos soon.
Thanx again.

We stayed at Loy La Long Hotel for our last couple nights in Thailand. We had been to Bangkok before in the past and wanted something a little more relaxed and away from the tourism. This hotel is more than we ever expected. We had booked the Blue room after reading recommendations (thanks Trip Advisor!!) and were extremely pleased. The room had an amazing view of the river and was wonderfully decorated. The raised bed was large and very comfortable. The unique bathroom (shower tub and lovely sink) just added to the ambiance.

The main room of the hotel was very inviting with many comfortable cushions, books, hammocks and an awesome view of the river. The staff were super helpful and great cooks. The owners were away but had left the hotel in the hands in a friend of theirs. He was a wonderful help and made us feel extremely welcome. We even spent a couple afternoons sitting around having beers and chatting. Thanks Nick!

The neighborhood (China Town) was great fun and easily accessible. You feel like you could get lost but really the hotel is easy to find once you get your landmarks down (it really was easy even though most cabs seem to have very little idea of how to find the right place). The markets and restaurants around Loy La Long are good times. Definitely some of the best seafood dishes we had this trip. Be sure to check out the competing green shirt (T & K) vs red shirt restaurants (right across the street from each other!).

Overall, Loy La Long is a relaxing break from what one would expect from a hotel in Bangkok. The care and feeling put into the hotel is second to none. Close to the train, great shopping and wonderful food. You can't get closer to the river without falling in (the hotel itself is actually over the water!!). What a fantastic way to spend time in Bangkok.

Room Tip: We loved the Blue room, but the Black and Green room both have excellent river views. For sure try...

Loy La Long is one of the greatest experiences I've felt in Bangkok. It's a beautifully decorated riverside wooden house in which each of rooms offers different colorful theme. The amenities, decor items, and accessories are carefully chosen from various Thai provinces by its own hosts. I have to say that the design is a work of art while still keeps the simplicity of a old Thai house.

The sight is totally gorgeous, especially in the night that you may have to pay hundreds or thousands bucks in other riverside luxury hotels just to experience the same.

Khun Si & Khun Air and the staffs are very friendly. I didn't feel like staying a hotel but living with them like a family.

This is such a charming old house, right on the river and imaginatively restored by the very welcoming owners. It was so comfortable that we didn't bother to venture out in the evenings! It was just relaxing to sit in the lounge or on the first floor balcony and watch the river traffic and the city lights. As we were about to leave the river had risen and flooded part of the ground floor. We really hope that they have not suffered too much damage or loss of business as this authentic little hideaway is an absolute gem.
The only drawback from my personal point of view was the lack of a handrail on the open staircase but it wouldn't stop me from returning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the river - slightly more expensive but worth every penny.
