Dear Accorhotels.com traveller Singapore, Singapore
Thank you so much for the kind comments about the hotel and in particular our team: whilst it is (relatively!) easy to train and enforce standards, it is not always quite so easy to achieve a genuine level of friendliness, which can often be one of the main challenges in this business. So for us as a new hotel and with a new team, it is hugely encouraging to hear that we are on the right track. Thank you for staying with us: I do hope we will have an opportunity of welcoming you back soon at Hotel Muse.
Kind regards

Accor opened this rather small hotel (174 rooms) recently, in September 2011.
I visited it in October 2011 and the smell of solvents was still there.
This made me decide not yet to book there. It takes a few months for an hotel or a restaurant to get going.
Nevertheless I understood from what I experienced that this is a hotel based upon a concept.
If you are not terribly attracted by the concept you may not like this hotel. But if you like the concept I am sure you wuill love this hotel.
When you enter the reception area from Bangkok's broad daylight you will see very little. It is rather dark.
Cleverly any indication of 'grandeur' is avoided.
The whole place seems to be crammed full and cluttered. If you can see the floors you will notice that they are not in solid teak, as you so often find in old Thai buildings, but in some sort of distressed wood, that unfortunately looks very much like laminate. Well, maybe it is laminate, but that does not matter. The main impression is that it is worn out, just like people like to buy jeans with a worn-out look. A clever design indeed.

Further on - in a sort of passage to the lift - there is all of a sudden a reasonable Persian Kashan carpet on the floor. Normally, in Persia, we would give such a carpet more space. Here it is confined by the walls. It is a big carpet but not really big. This means that there is not so much space on the ground plan. Alright: you try to find your way onward. Glaring lights from the floor shining up make this a little effort.
You get to the lift - or lifts?? Is there really only one lift available for this building? There were actually 2 lifts but one was marked as 'service lift' (or was it out of service?). Anyhow, even two lifts would not have been much. Makes you think again about the poor architect trying to squeeze in two lifts.
If the design was meant to emulate old colonial style it would be better to visit Raffles or E&O and all the other still existing places in India and Pakistan.
Brightness is avoided.
The ambiance will certainly attract nouveau riche Russians and Cypriots.
In October only one restaurant is operating: a Thai restaurant: Su Tha Ros on the 14th floor. See under restaurants. A second Italian restaurant is supposed to open later this year.
Staff of the hotel and the restaurant have specially designed clothes. Personally I think these make the staff less attractive but you may like the design. I thought it made them all look a bit sad. Maybe the (absence of) colour scheme ?
Considering that the hotel and the restaurants will be in the higher price bracket I think it is worthwhile studying the concept of the hotel and its merits first.

Dear Kirpan
Many thanks for taking the time to post your review, even though we are disappointed to hear that the hotel clearly did not appeal to you.
As far as the concept is concerned, I suppose you are right in pointing out that the hotel has a distinctive character, as it was designed with travelers in mind in search of a truly unique and highly individual property away from the cookie-cutter concept of internationally branded properties or bland modernity, which so dominates new hotels the world over. But of course by taking this daring approach one has to also accept that there will be some who will not like it, such as in your case, as such judgments is of course entirely subjective and based on personal tastes.
The design inspiration for Hotel Muse comes from the late 19th, early 20th Century, a time when Thailand opened up to foreign influences, attributed to King Rama V and a period which is often described as the Golden Age of Travel. It is this spirit we seek to evoke at Hotel Muse: a perfect blend of period influences and 21st Century modernity.
And just to clarify that we do indeed have two guest lifts, but as you pointed out, at only 174 rooms the hotel can be considered small and this number of lifts perfectly adequate.
When we opened less than four weeks ago we deliberately decided on a low key soft opening strategy and it is correct to say that as far as restaurants are concerned, we currently we only operate our Thai restaurant Su Tha Ros, which is located on the 19th floor with stunning views overlooking the grounds of the US Embassy. However, I am pleased to say that our Italian restaurant ‘Medici Kitchen & Bar’ will be following shortly and is due to open on 15th October. I also hasten to add that the fact that our soft opening strategy and current lack of all facilities is reflected in our great opening rates, which are reduced by 20% until mid-December.
All this said, please allow me to apologise for having failed to meet with your expectations and for taking the time to post your thoughts on Hotel Muse.
Kind regards

This is the best hotel bed I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping in. The Hotel Muse is a breathe of fresh air and great high design boutique property. Certainly nothing else like this in Phuket. The addage of the golden age of travel is on the high concept design, most things work terrific and certainly its a pleasant departure from those cookie cutter institutional bed factories that dot most Asian cities. You have to try this hotel.

The hotel design was great but since its in the opening stage, the smell of lacquer fills the air, which can be quite overpowering. The service was excellent and everybody was eager to please. We ate dinner at sutharos, the thai restaurant. Food was good but the serving time between each time was too long. As always, the service staff are eager to please.

The rooms are nicely decorated with trunks like drawer and everything looks nice. Bed was ultra comfortable with a pillow top mattress. However, their "signature" bath amenities are nothing great.

Breakfast was good but nothing special. The minute steak that we had was done very well.
Overall a good hotel, with good hardware and software.
Highly recommended (but a little bit expensive).

Dear wan234,
We were delighted to hear your that so many aspects of your stay met with your expectations. Many thanks also for the areas of improvement you have pointed out: as far as the smell is concerned, I am pleased to say that one month into the operation, it has finally worn off and luckily is no longer a problem. Sorry to hear that you weren’t overly keen on our toiletry range, however, I would like to mention that they are premium quality products especially designed with our Hotel Muse signature fragrance by one of Asia’s leading manufacturers in this field. These are available in our Deluxe Rooms, whilst we provide guests in our Residences and Suites with Molton Brown products. Once again, thank you for your feedback and rest assure that on your next visit to Hotel Muse our staff will ensure that your experience would be nothing short of perfect.
Kindest regards

I am always looking for new hotels to try during business trips and holidays, so when I discovered the new Hotel Muse was opening during a visit to Bangkok last week, I was keen to give it a try.
This hotel is excitingly different in many ways. Although they are still to complete the suites, one restaurant and the Speakeasy Bar on the top floor, I saw enough to want to return on my next trip to Bangkok.
A refreshing cocktail on arrival and a smooth check-in set the scene for a memorable stay. I stayed in a deluxe room and it was amazing. The bed, the linen, towels etc were all top quality, and the stylish bathtub and painted wash basins were an unexpected pleasant surprise.
Breakfast is served in the traditional Thai restaurant on the 9th floor and, apart from fruit (tthere were 18 different fruits on offer!) and cereal, you order your breakfast a-la-catre, so it is freshly cooked and piping hot, unlike the buffer offerings in most hotel restaurants.
I also enjoyed a memorable lunch in the same restaurant, which prides itself on serving traditional Thai dishes (no fusion here).
Sure, there was some finishing touches being made during the day, but my room was super quiet at night and the amazing opening special price of 5555 Thai Baht per night for a deluxe room including breakfast more than compensated for what was minor inconvenience.
Please be aware that the opening special rates only last until early December, so get in early for the best value hotel stay you'll ever have.
The only downside for me was that free internet was not included in the rate. However, the charge for internet was reasonable and affordable, so it wasn't a big drama.
I've stayed in some great hotels around the world, and the Hotel Muse is equal to or better than them all. Highly recommended.
