First time staying at a Marriott Vacation Club, This is more like a small apartment with a small kitchen w/washer-dryer. The rooms are quite large, the master suite is similar to a master suite in a home. The only thing lacking is a large closet space, but more than adequate for a vacation. I would compare it to a Residence Inn, but larger and better furnished.
The hotel is located less than 50 yds from two of the main Bangkok commuter rail systems. One is the BTS-Skytrain, which can get you pretty close to most of the areas you would want to visit in Bangkok. You will find that the Skytrain will get you there faster than a taxi, as the traffic can be horrendous during rush hour. I purchase a one-day pass on the BTS for approx $4
There are many food vendors on the streets where you can get breakfast style or lunch very cheap, for about $2-3 dollars. Only one major restaurant just south of the hotel, called Sara-Jane. Just past Sara-Jane is a small modern shopping mall, with a decent market, City Vive, for stocking up on food.
If taking a taxi, have the hotel staff arrange of one, and have them give your destination to the taxi driver. They will confirm that the taxi driver knows where you want to go, and confirm the approximate cost for the fare ride.
