Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn
Ranked #7 of 894 Hotels in Bangkok
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 12 May 2014

We stayed at the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn for 10 nights on an extended visit of Bangkok and surroundings. The hotel is conveniently located right beside the Surasak BTS sky train station and has got its own private elevated walkway to the station from the 3rd floor of the hotel. The hotel is medium size in set up. It’s situated right beside the Blue Elephant restaurant which makes for a tempting dinner alternative when you want something other than what is offered by the three restaurants at the hotel itself. We tried all three restaurants: Luce (Italian), Chef Man (Chinese) and the Glass House (buffet style and à la carte). All three were good. The Italian restaurant disappointed only in the quality of the pizza. The tomato base was totally insufficiently flavored and therefore made for an insipid, bland experience. Having said that we enjoyed the other dishes (tomato mozzarella deconstructed and a spicy octopus diavola). The Luce restaurant is right by the pool side and offers very nice views (as does the infinity pool) over the Bangkok skyline. The Chef Man restaurant and the Glass House were both simply. The rooms in the hotel were spatious and uncluttered. Some people may find them basic given the five-star rating of the hotel and indeed they are probably somewhere in the grey area between up-market 4-star and basic 5-star. The rooms come with all usual commodities and had a sufficiently stocked mini-bar that was restocked daily. The mattress was on the hard side and gave me a light back ache throughout our stay. The air conditioning at the hotel is probably not the strongest we ever encountered. The first room stayed at a whopping 27°C for up to five hours after we had arrived and with the air con fully switched on. We requested for a room change and were given another room two floors up and had no more air conditioning issues the rest of our stay. The breakfast is served each morning from 6 to 11 am at the Glass House. The range is unremarkable and again tends to lean closer towards 4 star than 5 star. For the lovers of cold cuts or cheeses in the morning, the offer will most likely result in being disappointing since, apart from the odd slice of ham, precious little was on offer. Since we are not big breakfast eaters we found the range to be sufficient. The lobby area is agreeable and houses the lobby bar. Since two of the four walls are glass, the lobby is blessed with plenty of natural light. The concierge offers tours through an independent company but it may be worth your while to compare the offer and prices to what is available outside of the hotel seeing that we found that the prices can be up to 100% higher inside the hotel. The BTS skytrain stop whizzes you into central Bangkok in no time (direct line to Siam Square and Sala Daeng) and in the other direction to Central Pier from where you can easily hop onto one of the many ferries that take you up the river to the historic city. All in all a friendly, nice, pleasant, comfortable hotel with excellent, guest-focused staff and good infrastructure. A good choice for reconnoitering Bangkok.

Me and my wife had a great stay at this hotel. We got our room on 18th floor where we could get an amazing view of the city. The swimming pool was surprisingly excellent place to relax after a busy day trip of Bangkok. We enjoyed our dinner here and loved people at this hotel, too. We are sure be back in the near future.

Room Tip: Got a room on higher floor if you can.

Friendly and helpful staff. Though their trips are way higher than what's possible to arrange on your own - if you have the energi for it. Room nice and clean. Good security. Nice playroom for kids; strollers for lending. Very nice infinity pool. Also small pool area for small kids. Soooo tempting to just stay at the pool in those gorgeous sunhuts and ordre drinks and snacks all day long. Prices high for Thailand, but payable. Super great breakfast buffet, for all tastbunds, diets and allergies. Good direct access to skytrain. Note: when going back to the hotel, most taxi will charge extra due to the heavy trafic on the road where the hotel is placed. When coming for ex grand placa expect to pay 3 times the price as going there. Some good restaurants in walking distance.

We spent 4 days at Eastin Grand Hotel and we were very pleased.

The hotel has good standards when it comes to cleaning, the rooms are elegant, big and the breakfast is amazing. The staff speaks good English (we faced problems at other hotels) and the concierge services at the hotel lobby were lifesaving.

The location was exactly what we expected, even better. Since the hotel has a private (and very convenient) access to Surasak BTS Station (through the second floor, a mere 30 meters walk) we could reach Siam (and it´s many shoppings, restaurants, stores...) BTS stop in 10 minutes, which was a must. Also, from Surasak Station you can reach Saphan BTS Station in 5-10 minutes, and from there take Chao Phraya Express Boat, "jumping" at Tha Chang stop and reaching The Great Palace in 1 or 2 minutes. The boats are a good choice specially at periods of great traffic, since Bangkok transit can be a major problem at peak times, and have such option from your hotel is very handy.

We had a private tour booked at AmazingAsiaTours through the hotel and although a little bit pricey, it was a satisfying experience and we recommend it, since it was really tailored to our needs. Appearently, this company is branched in the hotel and its also convenient to have such facility.

The concierge services were amazing, always available to suggest and help the guests to take the most of their times. They also were very helpfull regarding asking for a cab, pointing directions and helping in any necessary matter.

Finally, the hotel has an amazing pool with views to the city and 2 restaurants, one of them attached to the pool floor. We unfortunatelly weren´t able to try the restaurants, but they were really appealing.

Overall, the prices were reasonable, the service flawless and the location very good.

We appreciated our stay and we felt like it was excellent value for the money spent.

As it was our first time in Bangkok, we looked for a place fairly near to sights around the city. And we found it by choosing this hotel, as its 3rd floor is attached to Surasak BTS station. That means easy access to SIAM(shopping center), Chao Phraya(sightseeing), Asok(terminal 21). Besides the location, this hotel has another strong spot: breakfast buffet, mainly asian, has a variety of fresh made food, fruits, cereals, fresh juice - but cheese was missing!Room is large and clean ,not something special, except the great view of the city. The staff is helpful and always willing to serve. On our early check-out (05:30), we had a box breakfast.
And for those who are interested in Muay Thai, 5 BTS stations far from the hotel, at MBK center, games are held every Wednesday at 6pm(free admission).
Overall, staying here means convenience !

we stayed here for two nights at the end of our honeymoon. We chose to stay in a JNR suite and we were not disappointed. Check in was quick and informative, and great English was spoken by all staff. Our room had some magnificent views over the city.

The executive lounge was a nice touch offering free canapés and drinks for a couple of hours in the evening, so it was nice to sit and have a drink and watch the sun go down before going for dinner.

Location as previously mentioned is excellent, the sky train is a brilliant and quick way to get around the city.

My only complaint was that we decided to go for dinner in Luce and to be honest the quality of food was not very good at all. Whilst our starters were palatable, our main courses were just horrendous. I mentioned this to the manager, and she kindly took my main course off the bill. For me this was a bad end to what had been a great honeymoon. I guess we should have known better to eat something other than Thai food. Lesson learned.

Apart from this, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed in hotel for 3 nights, only utilized the room and breakfast.

Location - connected directly via a bridge to the sky train, which is the most convenient location to be in Bangkok as almost everything is accessible via the sky train. Unfortunately there is really nothing much around immediate vicinity of the hotel.. if there were more shops, it would have rated this property 5 stars!

Service - service in bangkok is great and this hotel is no exception. Staff is courteous and speak good english

Bed - great bed but not up to the standard of the true blue 5 star chain hotels.

Room - Lives up to 5-star standard.

Buffet breakfast - great selection of asian and western breakfast. The muffins were fantastic. Look out for them!

Others - infinity pool looked great but did not have the chance to utilize.
