“Average Plus - A little old but a great location.”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

The Bavana was is an older hotel that was probably glorious in it's heyday. It still presents well if not a bit dark and dated. Located on Surwong Road across the street from the famed Dukes Tower, its very near the intersection of Rama IV and a block over from the BTS on Silom Rd. Its easy to miss though as the first floor of the hotel is also a café and bar. The hotel check in desk is at the back of the café. The staff was very friendly and courteous. Also nearby are shops, a mall, massage and one of Bankoks famed red light districts. The night market is a few steps away as are some great food venues including and Australian steak house offering a nice (but pricey) break from Asian fare.

The hotel room faced the street and was a bit noisy until around midnight when traffic and activities settled down. The room itself was clean but like the hotel, a bit dark and dated. Beds were very firm as is typical in Asia and bed linens were clean and plentiful. The room windows, facing a busy road were quite dirty and obscured the view of the rather interesting building (Duke Tower) across the street. The windows did open wide though if one wanted to look outside. The AC worked well enough and was quiet. The bathroom was very large and spacious. The shower curtain was not quite large enough though, and it was impossible to take a shower without soaking the floor. Fortunately, the floor was properly pitched toward the drain and dried very quickly.

The Bavana is an very good value for the budget traveler and offers a great location for exploring this section of Bangkok. I will stay there on my next visit to the city without hesitation.

Room Tip: If you need quiet, as for a room facing the alley at the back.

This hotel is a quite old hotel located in good area of night life entertainment, restaurants and shopping complexes. It's not really clean. Equipment is old but still can be used. The design is just without any special design. Staff was friendly and difficult for English communication.

Rather difficult to find as the entrance is either thorough the restaurant of the same name as the hotel or from a side soi to the back of the hotel. My room was 1300 baht a night with no breakfast. Most of the guests seem to be Japanese men where the proximity to the nearby Japanese soi Thaniya may be convenient. Room was OK decent size with fridge, TV, safe, and hot water maker. Rooms are dated and not to everyone's taste and in need of refurbishment. Some of the rooms don't have windows. Bathrooms are good size with bath tub and shower. Beds were comfortable and I slept well. Air conditioning rather noisy but effective. Happily stay here again

I have stayed at this good value, budget hotel on two previous occasions. It is in a great location - one minute's walk to Soi Thaniya, and five minutes walk to BTS station Sala Daeng and shopping on Silom Rd. The hotel has a good restaurant with both western and thai choices - they also have an Italian restaurant next door, and on site massage which is cheap for a hotel.
Rooms are large, and clean, and quiet. Staff are very friendly. I requested a late check out and did not have to pay any extra for my room. I would highly recommend a stay at the Bavana.

Room Tip: A deluxe room on the 7th or 8th floors
