“Friendly Hostel”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

This was my first trip to Thailand, my first day in Bangkok, my first time in Asia, and one of my favourite hostels. It has a very welcoming and homely feel with great transport links for getting around the city. It was a little tricky to find at first but definitely worth it. I made some really good friends and I am still in contact with them now. It's clean, safe, and well located perfect for people who want to see the real Bangkok. The staff were very helpful with everything - where to go, what to see, how to get there, booking buses and trains, and just really nice. I loved it.

First time ever in Thailand and this place was the perfect introduction to life in Bangkok. It had a real homely, unique atmosphere and was great value for money. Shaun and the other staff were very friendly and were always happy to answer any questions and to give advice on what to do/see in the city. The hostel itself was small, meaning that it was easier to chat and meet other people.. I spent my entire time in Bangkok with a girl from my dorm! The location couldn't have been better.. quiet and right in the heart of a real, raw Thai neighborhood (far away from Khao San Road and all the annoying touristy areas)! Was amazing to see the people just getting on with their usual lives and the kids would walk by on their way to and from school and say hello.. cute! Also have to say that it was so easy to get to elsewhere in Bangkok via taxis, tuk tuks, the BTS and the canal boat. The only place to stay in Bangkok.. have recommended it to so many people already and will continue to do so. I can't wait to go back one day!

Room Tip: Just choose any dorm.. great way to meet new people!

I was in Bangkok three times during a recent trip around SE Asia, and I always came back to Siam Journey. The staff are great, the location is perfect (especially if getting to/from the airport), there is killer food just around the corner, and the quality of the actual accommodation itself is excellent. Highly recommended!

I've been to Bangkok a couple times now, but this was definitely the best hostel I've ever settled there (and my favorite hostel period). It's located away from all the Kao san fuzz, though you still can still get there easily with the awesome and cheap canal boats. The locals around where lovely and we had the cheapest food in Asia of all time. It's near the skytrains, which is great for discovering the city (or getting you home when you are lost in Bangkok). Shane was a great host who told us everything we wanted to know about Bangkok, traveling in Thailand and premier league football. The main room was very welcoming and had a good vibe, making you feel at home. Great for meeting people or having a jamsession. Also, good beds with fresh linen and a DECENT PILLOW. And those are rare in SE Asia I found out.

Our first stop in Thailand and we opted for Siam Journey because of the homey vibe and great price. It was relatively easy to find and located away from a lot of Bangkok's noise. Shane and Nathan are fantastic individuals who really did everything they could to make it the best stay. Hostel is pretty small, like a legitimate homestay and the main room accommodated 10 people so everyone becomes friends pretty quickly. They like to arrange activities for all of us and took us all out to an authentic Thai dinner at a friends place followed by a trip to aThai whiskey bar. They also took us out to a restaurant with free pizza and cheap drinks and recommended great stuff to do in the city like the Chatuchak weekend market and other cool things as well as general advice.

The room overall was good, beds weren't exactly the most comfortable but who cares, and the AC was a nice addition. Bathroom and facilities were also clean and comfortable to use. There are many restaurants and a plethora of street food nearby just on the main road. MBK shopping complex and surrounding area is about a 10-15 minute walk down the main road which was convenient. Important to note, the surrounding neighbourhood is where the legitimate Thai people live, which is extremely refreshing to see in a very touristy city.

Cannot recommend Siam Journey enough, everything was just awesome. If you're looking to try something new and get away from the craziness that is Khao San Road, then this place should be your number one pick.

We only stayed here one day and night and wished we had longer. We met some really nice people here, such a relaxed environment. It's a small place but if you want somewhere to go to escape the busy city it's here. Shane really gave us some great tips, there's a cheap food street round the corner and as it's near Phaya Thai you can get the airport link which only takes 15-20 mins rather than get stuck in ridiculous Bangkok traffic jams for 2 hours! The aircon is switched off automatically between 12-6pm but it doesn't matter you should be out sightseeing! The four mega malls around the BTS stafium are 15-20min walk away, the Paragon mall is epic! The cinema on the too floor is amazing! Also can still get to Khaosan road easily if you want by taxi. Would definitely stay here again! Just a tip about finding the place - exit 1 from Phaya Thai BTS station don't walk straight you need to walk back on yourself the other direction then walk straight. You'll pass a 7-11 and Canton House serving dimsum. Then take a right into Nom chit, then take the second right (unnamed alleyway) then turn left you'll see a bunch of shoes piled outside! Enjoy!

The staff there are super helpful, especially the owner. I loved the vibe of the hostel, makes it very easy to meet other people. The location is right next to Phaya Thai bts station, but in a very local community that is quiet and has lots of yummy street food. Would definitely recommend this place.
