“Beautiful room and grounds, awkward location, skeeter heaven”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Stayed at the Siam in Bangkok in Oct/Nov 2013.

First the good: The grounds of the hotel were absolutely beautiful, with a nice waterfront dining/drinks area, fun pool, and cool deco decor. We stayed in a river view pool villa which was spacious and quite comfortable.

Now the bad: it's VERY tough to get to as a non-Thai speaking tourist. Other than the private river boat shuttle (which runs only every 90min, and was >20min late on 2 occasions), we didn't find anyone who knew where the place was. Taxi drivers were scratching their heads--even with a map the hotel provided! In one instance, we showed the map to 10 taxis, none of whom could even guess where the hotel was. The hotel management needs to do a MUCH better job in providing transportation options, or at least launch an informational campaign for the taxi drivers.

Second, the mosquitoes were brutal. I understand that this is a hotel in the tropics on a waterway, but we've stayed at plenty of other places in tropical Asia and Central/South America in which the skeeters problem was well-managed. The wife and I were totally bitten up on the first night, and it just got worse. That's despite leaving the room doors closed, A/C on, and taking other precautions. The mosquito problem needs to be solved before we would recommend staying there.

The service was friendly, but very "uncertain," which I got the impression was a communications issue with the staff. For example, we asked for recommendations of restaurants and were given a lengthy list of names without recommendation; we asked for recommendations of what time we should go somewhere, we were handed a list of the water ferry schedule.

Overall, pretty property with pretty big problems, considering the sizable price tag.

Room Tip: Non-river view rooms might have less mosquito risk. Might.

The Siam really is an excellent place to stay if you like small, intimate, boutique hotels. The decor is very different, a black and white theme throughout with quite amazing antiques everywhere you look. The staff are extremely friendly and very accommodating. Jason, the GM, and Mac helped us with our itinerary for our 3 night stay. Jason also recommended places to go and eat in Singapore, our next destination.

Room Tip: We had a Riverview suite on the 3rd floor which was excellent.

I am in residence currently at the Siam and could not be more pleased with the hotel. The room is divine so comfortable and spacious . The spa is fantastic and the gym very nice as well. The food and service really great. So happy I am staying here rather than the chaotic Mandarin.

My friend and I have decided to book Siam on our 1st visit to Bangkok. The hotel turned out to be small and luxury, with extremely helpful and friendly staff, great dining experience and spa. On our arrival, we were taken around the hotel and were told it was owned by one of Thai celebrities (hence the amazing décor). The whole experience was rather peaceful and made us feel at home. Siam is a great option for people wanting to do sightseeing, especially if you come as a family or a couple. There’s also a private boat from the hotel, which takes you to the BTS and closer to the modern area of Bangkok (Sukhumvit).

The Siam is one of the best hotels, if not the best, you could possibly find in Bangkok, and we were personally very pleased with our stay. This place has everything you could possibly want, from a huge swimming pool or a fitness center, to high speed Internet and Shuttle Bus Service. The room we had was also perfectly clean and very comfortable, and the decorations throughout the hotel are just outstanding. The location is also amazing, being close to many temples, museums and historical palaces you can visit. Overall, I have no complaints and I would safely recommend it to everyone!

I went for 3 days to relax by myself and use the Spa. I read about it and booked. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. It was built on the water on 3 acres of prime land and is only less than two years old. The rooms are amazing. All are lofts and my suite was about 1400 SF The owner collects antiques and it is there in lobby, rooms etc to enjoy All the accommodations are suites. They have their own boat and will take you up and down river so very convenient. Everything perfect except......the location is very remote, the pool is small and always empty I never saw people except at breakfast. It became lonely but they said hotel filled. I went down to Mandarin Oriental on the boat, and it was lively with people and great restaurants. A buzz. The Siam does not have that. So, pick what you expect of a place and if you stay here expect longer taxi rides to where you have to go

The Siam Hotel is one of the most exquisite hotels in the world! The decor is beautiful done all in black and white and beautiful greenery. Antiques are merged with modern. But best of all, the service is given so graciously by the entire staff in a kind and gentle manner. The general manager is dynamic with great vision. Spa service and food were fabulous! It was a most memorable stay!

Room Tip: Room 206 is best! get a villa...
