Perhaps my expectations were too high. But the service standard is simply not there yet. I booked the prestige package. It came with a free massage for two and a set dinner. I asked whether they could extend my massage session since I checked in alone. The answer ... "no... It is part of the rules and regulations." The next day, I asked for the set dinner to be served in my room, as I was watching a movie. The answer ... "no", the rules said I have to eat at the restaurant". Perhaps Japanese efficiency? But it did not work for me. I explained that in most instances in Thailand (especially), hotels go out of the way to make their guests feel welcome and "pamper" them. They will go the extra mile to impress the guests. I can understand if my requests are rejected if it costs the hotel more money. In this case, clearly it did not. I told the duty manager that "discretion" should be a by-word for new hotels trying to retain new guests. He said "ok yes ok yes" and sent the food to my room. Unfortunately, there was no follow up even though I asked the GM to call me. I checked out the next day and cancelled my two subsequent nights.Incidentally, the windows cannot be opened. So if you need fresh air in the room , this hotel will be challenging. I checked into Siam Kempinski thereafter.

Dear SingaporeCliff,
Thank you for sharing your stay experience and we appreciate your comments posted here below. Having just recently opened our doors we do regret that we were not up to the level in terms of service and customer attention where we would like to be. Feedback of this nature helps us to pinpoint areas where additional attention is required and I do hope our shortcomings did not place us in any permanent disfavour as I and my team would look forward to welcoming you back, allowing us to share with you our true hospitality. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed again.
Yours sincerely
Samir Wildemann

I was reluctant but my partner convinced me. He was on long business trip and wanted to spend time together without having to take a trip somewhere. So we decided to do a "stay-cation" in a local hotel in Bangkok.

The newly opened Okura Prestige is the new kid on the block and so we made reservations for the weekend. Reservations were handled promptly and efficiently.

On our arrival in the lower lobby you are greeting by a very pleasant scent (could be the Okura signature scent) and enthusiastic porters who would jump at your every movement to assist you. We had to ride the elevator up to the 24th floor for check-in and we were greeted by very pleasant and cheerful check-in staff. The 24th floor consist of the Reception, a Bar, an all day dining restaurant called Up & Above and of course Yamazato their signature Japanese Restaurant. The high ceiling and floor to ceiling windows gave you a sense of spaciousness and a breathtaking view of Ploenchit, Wireless Road and beyond. The tone of colors for the Okura are very earthy, with shades of brown, green, metallic silver and black with a splash of white.

Our room was on the 26th floor, elevator access to guest rooms is separate from the one that comes from the lower lobby. The room is spacious, well appointed and plush. Products hardware and finish extremely superior and high quality. Bathroom amenity were sensational. Bathtub and shower facilities, ala Japanese style.

Dining experience at the Up & Above was also a wonderful experience. We had breakfast and a dinner there. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. Food was also of very high quality. There are outdoor seating for drinks or dining as well.

We had a wonderful weekend and a wonderful experience at the Okura Prestige. We highly recommend it, its all worth it.

Accompanied my husband on a business trip this time. Simply no words can express the experience of the hotel. Service is FLAWLESS, beds are beyond heavenly. Plush surroundings. Upscale residential feel like a Penthouse on Park Avenue, NYC.
