After a week of paying crazy amounts of money for decent food in Sydney dining at "L'appart"
was like winning the lotary. The food was amazingly good and the prices were more than reasonable except wine which is due to the taxes in Thailand. The service was exceptionally good as well as being friendly and courteus. We really enjoyed the location and the terrace was awesome. We will definitely come back.

A very knowledgeable source told us that the food at L'Appart was the finest available in Bangkok, and he was not wrong.

I would say the cuisine rivals that of top-knotch Sydney affairs like Quay. At least. But at a fraction of the cost.

The location (top floor of the Sofitel Sukhumvit in the centre of Bangkok) and the decor (a sort of wrap-around lounge room/library with individual small tables at discrete distances from each other) are a great starting point.

The menu is extensive and elegant. What especially impressed was the tweaking of classic French cuisine to combine it with elements of Thai cooking.

For instance, I had a main course of snow fish on a bed of squid ink rissotto, surrounded by a generous serving of what was described as "tom kha beurre blanc" and was just amazing.

My entree, porcini veloute, was both generous and delicious. But the serving was worthy of an illustrated cookbook. Served in a large glass orb, the base of which contained a small edible 'garden' of mushrooms and sprouts, the rich soup was topped with a cracker on which 'grew' a garden of mushrooms, 'planted' in cream cheese. See my photos. So hard to describe, and even harder to believe. Chef must have been working hard with tweezers to make it look so good.

Hubby had a re-worked French onion soup, which came in an iron pot topped with a puffed pie crust, dutifully removed by the waitress.

His main was a marinated and then gently braised red tuna with a ratatouille-style salsa.

Because my husband was celebrating his birthday, an absolutely amazing little dense chocolate/marzipan cake arrived, replete with lit candle and singing by the staff (the DJ even stopped the dance party music and played a birthday tune!)

We also ordered 2 scoops of marshmallow ice cream, and they were served in gorgeous cones made of ice.

All in all one of the most amazing meals we've ever experienced, in a classy atmosphere, great knowledgeable staff, and management willing to assist with special occasions.

25 April 2014 ... here we come!

I was also grateful that they held our table when we were over an hour late for our reservation due to nightmarish traffic.

Just a note: they aren't fussed too much about casual gear (although you would feel much more at home if dressed elegantly), but remember to bring 'real' shoes, not sandals.

Thank you to the wonderful crew at this unique skyline bar. Fabulous views, great tapas with matching wines. Best French inspired cocktails and a hell of cool music mix to top off this six star noir extravaganza in Bangkok!

We had read about L'Appart in Wine Spectator Magazine. It was expensive but well worth the price. Wine list was excellent. Service was impeccable. Very interesting to be able to watch the kitchen and the chef work while dining. The rooms, as in an apartment, were spacious and beautifully decorated. Would love to repeat the dinner. Karen S

We were staying at the Hotel and decided to try this restaurant . What a pleasant surprise. The service and the food was truly superb. I had the tartar for entree, one of the best I have had, then the snow fish for main.....devine. My husband had the French onion Soup and the chicken filled with Roquefort cheese, he was extremely happy with both.
