“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 3 November 2011

We had been staying with my sister in Hua Hin before we flew out of Bangkok to go to Bali, we had an early morning flight so thought it best to book a hotel in Bangkok so that we could have a few hours sleep before we went to airport. My sister booked us in to the Executive rooms at Holiday Inn Silom, we have stayed in many Holiday Inn hotels in the UK but we got quite a shock when we arrived the lobby is gorgeous and because it was an executive room we were taken to the executive lounge to book in which was very relaxed. The room was gorgeous with views over the city, the bathroom was huge with large walk in shower and separate bath tub. The executive lounge is open for alcoholic drinks and nibbles from 6pm. we ate at the restaurant which was a lovely buffet. The only disappointing thing was that we were only staying there for a couple of hours would have loved to stay longer and try out the facilities.

Although this hotel is in a good location in the city (also close to metro station, some markets, groceries stores, restaurants and massage centers), is boring and nothing exceptional, compared with others in its range (specially asian hotels). The rooms are big and quiet and the beds are comfortable with 2 types of pillows, rooms are mostly clean, amenities are the Holiday Inn standard and toiletries just fair; the shower in my bathroom wasn't working properly when I got in but I could fix it myself. Complimentary bottles of water are offered. Staff is fairly polite with basic english and concierge/reception staff is not really good giving information. Room service is ok, asian dishes are good; I didn't try the restaurants in ground floor. Tv channels selection is poor and internet is not complimentary. No pens in the room, only unsharpened pencils, get your own pen if you need to write anything. Housekeeping staff sometimes is noisy in the mornings. This hotel is not bad, not excellent, but maybe if you have the chance, check for a better value for your money somewhere else

Room Tip: One not too close to the lifts and in a higher floor to avoid noise from the street

Check in process was smooth and very friendly. The hotel in general is clean and tidy. However the rooms need updating. The carpet is old, the bathroom is very small with old furnishings and the internet is quite slow. Couldn't use Skype to speak to my family because the line was that bad.
Bed was comfortable though and they did have a selection of soft and firm pillows, that was a nice touch. Breakfast was good, not extensive, but good.

All in all, it's not impressive but it's adequate. You don't come here for luxury and the price is good so I guess there isn't too much to complain about, just that the hotel itself is a little average.

Located in Silom, about 10 mins walk to the nearest Skytrain station. Mostly a business area although you could also try to walk to the ferry pier in about 20 mins.

This hotel is like any other souless Holiday inn hotel anywhere in the wrold, but hey....you know what you are getting with this brand and for sure they really do delivery in the Holiday in in bangkok. The location is by far the best quyality as it is two mins from the sky train and walking distance from Pat[pong night mkarket.

Room Tip: Always ask for a room near the top as the views across the city are totally amasing.

I stayed here during a trip in May 2011. The hotel reception is grand and the staff are very polite. But then again so are Thai people! Check in took some time as they all still struggle with English.
THE MAJOR TIP:
The hotel is built over 2 towers. For some bizarre reason one has nice rooms as shown in the pictures and the other has the rubbish ones. If when you book it states a "premier" room then you should be ok. However, they are cheeky and only advertise it as a double. In that case you will get the rubbish room. The hotel will then ask you if you want to upgrade for about £14/night which is not bad but blatantly a money-making scheme. Some travellers did settle for the rubbish rooms but my guess is they couldn't afford the upgrade. Also, I got the feeling that those from the rubbish rooms weren't as well treated as we were. I did take a look at the rubbish rooms and they are awful. It's like stepping back into the 80's. The furniture is dated, there's loose wiring everywhere and none of it is clean.
In contrast, the crown tower rooms are much better. The bathrooms have massive walk-in showers and a separate tub. The rooms are much bigger with much better furniture and bed. If there's anything else you want to know then email me specific questions and I'll be happy to answer.

Room Tip: Always book a premier room

As a frequent business traveller I very much appreciate good staff as well as a quality hotel. I think this one has it all. The location is good, and the hotel is really great, with wonderfully comfortable rooms, including the beds... great bathrooms, but most of all the staff are so helpful. I am not sure if it is the wonderful owners, the reknowned Harilela Family who give the staff their training, or the Holiday Inn Group. I suspect it is a combination of both. My stays in this hotel usually exceed 7 days, and I really cannot fault this lovely clean well priced hotel. I highly recommend this to business and leisure travellers alike

Room Tip: Perhaps just ask
