“First Impressions”
Reviewed 18 August 2012

I have been to Bankok many times due to focus in customer service and courtesy of people be it in the service industry or in general. Makes a relaxing change from western degradation in standards. This year, I decide to travel for summer holidays and stay longer in Bangkok and Koh Samui. I am an IHG platinum member (due to extensive worldwide travel for work) including being highest status in other chains. Previously I have stayed in the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza but never in the Intercontinental in BK. if looking for luxury I usually stay at Conrad (nearby) or some of the luxury brands at the riverside. I can honestly say my status is always recognised....... However read on.

I had just finished my first 3 days at the Hilton Millenium where my status was acknowledged and upgrades and access to club levels granted automatically. I had booked one night in the IHG believing it to be a more luxurious occasion for my better half as a midway luxury night prior to going to Pattaya..... Taking into consideration that I am due to go to Koh Samui in three days I decided to extend my booking in the Intercontental. This was done through points. I booked Grand Deluxe room (the name sounds grand!).

Upon arrival from the Hilton after having a wonderful stay my first impressions were good, the hotel is in a nice shopping area next to everything including BTS. We were promptly greeted by the bell boy and bags efficient taken prior to check in. Once within the entrance everything seemed grand! We were asked if we were loyalty members and taken immediately to the priority club check in desk. All very efficient. Pleasantly greeted and booking found with ease. Taken immediately to room on 24th floor where we finalised the checking procedure. Upon entering the room, it seemed excellent and just what we were after. Large bed, nice lighting, huge TV 47in I would hazard a guess and reasonable view. Very large bathroom and room well appointed in every regard. We were happy. The lovely and friendly lady began to explain our benefits and this is where my first good impressions ended. I was informed of a level of benefits I am used to, but was then told no breakfast nor access to club lounge was possible. Being at the highest level and comparing to other chains an other IHG hotels I have stayed in world wide, this is the first time I have not even had breakfast included. After already enjoying this perk in the Hilton I asked why this was the case, It would seem a grand deluxe is not grand enough and whilst I was upgraded to an exceutive room even this was no sufficient for club access. It needs to be a club room. Now I know most readers will think I am being quite snobby and ungrateful, but the status level is not an easy thing to achieve and there is choice in the hotels I stay at. I was offered breakfast at a cost and when I asked what I needed to access club level, a price was offered (special deal). Now this was a reasonable price, but considering I had just used the equivalency of around 10,000 sterling worth of hotel stay points, I was quite disappointed. The hotel web site does not indicate the various room levels and distinction and had I known I would have changed my booking to the Conrad which for same points would give me recognition and all advantages without extra cost.

I can say the club level is gorgeous, level of food to a high quality and staff very friendly. Will update more after my stay is complete............ To be continued.

Room Tip: Make sure it is club otherwise you are missing out and for the price I would imagine the benefits yo...

Stayed here for 5 nights on business. The hotel is all class - well appointed and incredible service. The rooms are spacious and comes with a huge TV( although I never watch TV especially when travelling on business)
I found the breakfast spread a touch limited compared to other 5 star hotels( Hyatt) around the corner but a little of everything.
Good selection of restaurants in the hotel. Location is excellent as it is opposite a BTS station and Central World. For the price which included internet and breakfast, it was very good value for money.

Stayed here August 2011 and again August 2012. Normally even in the same town we pick different hotels, a little variety. However the location and service we received here in 2011 made us choose it again. It's right in the heart of the shopping district, ideal as we had 4 teenage girls with us! The sky train is close so indeed it's not hard to get anywhere from here. We stayed in a club room which was lovely (bed's are wonderfully comfortable & the curtains excellent at keeping the light out) and the club lounge excellent (just remember not to wear flip flaps into the lounge - it's smart casual). Breakfast in the Espresso Restuarant was wonderful, a full spread and good quality. The pool is more for a dip than a swim as it's not very big but the outdoor area is attractive. The staff are knowledgable and very helpful. I've no doubt next time we're in Bangkok we'll be back.

Room Tip: Club rooms give access to the Club lounge which gives a nice area to relax if you don't want to...

I almost did not book with this hotel because of two reasons. Firstly, when I was booking online, the website said that "BED TYPE AND SMOKING PREFERENCE CANNOT BE GUARANTEED AS IT WILL BE ALLOCATED UPON ARRIVAL BASED ON AVAILABILITY". I'm a non-smoker and I certainly would like to make sure I'm paying for a smoke free room. I took the chance nonetheless, and upon arrival the hotel wasn't too busy and they could easily give me the room I wanted, high floor, away from lift lobby etc. Secondly, their website seem to imply that there is a fee of 1000baht for their gym. Well, the gym facilities turned out to be complimentary for my entire stay, so that was really great.

If your main itinerary in Bangkok is shopping, then this is a great hotel to stay. From the hotel, you can easily walk to Central World, Siam Paragon and Platinum mall. You don't have to depend on taxis, which probably will end you up with much time wasted on traffic jams.

Breakfast buffet standard at Bangkok hotels is very high. You can usually get a wide variety of fresh fruits and hot dishes. The breakfast here is not the best but it is still good. Starbucks is also just across the hotel.

The deluxe room that I stayed in was very clean, luxurious and quiet. There's a pillow menu where you get to choose from about 10 different types of pillows. They were mostly very soft in my opinion, even their firm ones.

Overall the convenience of the location and the luxury feel of the hotel makes the stay very worthwhile.

We had a short 3 nights stay in this hotel. From check-in up to the time we left, we were made to feel special. The hotel staff are always around, ready to help if you need a bucket of ice or directions to someplace. The location of the hotel also makes it easy and convenient to get around since Bangkok is notorious for her traffic jams.

The room is thoughtfully furnished with iphone chargers, network cable and even video cable for those who had brought their laptop and want to catch up emails or watch a movie on the big TV screen. The bed in the room is one of the most comfortable and well supported I have ever slept in. Coupled with pillows that are firm but soft, they give you the one-two pow that guarantees a good night's sleep.

Breakfast was include in our stay package. The spread is huge and delicious, but I wished that they could have added some variety to the menu. Sunlovers will love the pool on the 37th floor. Although a small pool, it is sufficient for a quick dip to cool off or a quick tan before embarking on the eventual shopping adventure.

Adventurous folks should take the express train from the airport to the hotel. The convenient location of the hotel puts it within walking distance from the Chit Lom BTS station. We had bought so much that we had to take a cab to the airport when we left. Even then, the English speaking staff will walk you out to the main door and hail a taxi for you. How thoughtful of them! I will definitely return to this hotel whenever I fly to Bangkok again.

It was sublime to reach the 37 floor and experience the view, the quality and all the comodities of the intercontinental club. That late glass of champagne served with the best "tapas" made everyday work perfect just before going out for dinner in such fantastic city. During your stay you can always be surprised by 5 language speaking staff staff such as smiling Miss. Angkana with her refined Portuguese speaking.
Business rooms were perfect, gym views breathtaking and also amazing comodities regarding jacuzzi, steam rooms and pool on the 37 floor roof!
An experience to look forward to live again!

Room Tip: Rooms on on the southwest get amazing views to the golf course of royal golf club.

The hotel is located in the heart of city, close to the shopping malls and convenience to access to the Bts Chidlom station. Outstanding with services at club lounge as always. All staff including a manager are extremely friendly and helpful plus the entire staff speaks English perfectly. Truly enjoyed our short time here and is most certainly will return during Christmas and New Year.

Room Tip: Stay on a high floor n book club floor it's not cheap, but worth every penny
