Departed from Helsinki on New Year's Eve, about half an hour from BKK airport to the hotel by taxi, we arrived to a very quiet city around 9 a.m. on January 1st.
On arrival at reception we were escorted to the Club Lounge on the 37th floor for check-in with a fruity drink & breakfast, my wife was given a mini-teddy bear in IC livery.
We were to be upgraded to a Junior suite (Ambassador Platinum) which naturally wasn't ready so early in the day - still they assigned us a temporary room on the 29th floor to freshen up - very nice room.
Had a couple of hours sleep before going out for a wander, came back for afternoon snacks in the Club lounge and were assigned 2702 (if I remember correctly).
A corner room - the modest sized living room had a nice panoramic window, a desk, 2
person sofa and armchair, plus a large TV (48"?), DVD and selection of cables to hook your PC up to the telly.
Through the living room was a dressing room, leading on to the bedroom and bathroom.
Bathroom with very spacious shower, a reasonable bath, decent toiletries, v. good soap.
The bedroom, very good bed with another large TV similar to the living room.
OK selection of TV channels, WiFi connection not the fastest, but reasonable for TV downloads
For those with Club lounge access, the views are very nice, a good breakfast selection, in the afternoon there is afternoon tea, then a cocktail happy hour followed by evening snacks ... hard to resist it all.
We ate dinner in the hotel just once, Thai restaurant on the lower ground floor, it was passable, but nothing spectacular and probably found better food in the restaurants of the Central World mall on the next block (5 minute walk from the hotel) go to the 7th floor.
P.s. the 7th floor of Central World also has a great supermarket stocking goods from around the world incase you forgot to pack something.
The hotel is located next to the BTS Skytrain walkway running above Ploen Chit. The nearest BTS station is Chit Lom, or you can walk several blocks in the opposite direction to Siam station (near the Siam Paragon mall. The walkway is a nice way to get a view of the street without having to mix with the cars below.
Very good concierge service in the hotel lobby organised a driver to take us on a day trip around the ruined temples of Ayutthaya a couple of hours drive away. Left at 08:30 and returned about 18:00, a really nice daytrip.
Lucky for us we were there whilst the protestors were on holiday ... it all kicked off again 5 days after we left.
