Stayed here for 4 nights over New Year. Hotel is great for tourists looking to shop. Just across the street is the Platinum mall where you can buy clothes at bargain prices. A more upscale mall - Central World - is a 5-minute walk away. If you prefer luxury items the Siam Paragon Mall is a 15-min walk away. The nearest train station is a 12-15 min walk away.

The hotel itself is a bit old and rough around the edges already but still good. The rooms are very spacious and seem to have been renovated recently as they have modern design. Beds were excellent and we slept very well. Buffet Breakfast is nothing out of the ordinary though. Our biggest dislike were the elevators. We stayed at the 10th floor and sometimes we had to wait 5 minutes to go down to the G/F.

All the staff we encountered were excellent and friendly. Would definitely consider staying here again.

P.S.: If you have time and are willing to splurge a little, consider getting a traditional Thai massage at the hotel's Breeze Spa. The massage room for couples was very nice and the massage therapists were excellent. We all loved the massage.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the platinum mall have a nicer view of the city.

Dear Daniel_MNL,

Thank you for your great review of the hotel. I was delighted to read that most aspects of your stay were met with satisfaction, from the location to the breeze spa.

I apologise for the delay with the lift, the hotel has been at full capacity for the last month and during peak times there can sometimes be a delay. We have indeed renovated the rooms on the Executive floors and further enhancements will be done to more of the rooms this year as we appreciate we need to keep the product fresh and updated.

I was most pleased though to read that our staff were always welcoming and friendly as this is key to our guests having a great experience. I will be sure to pass your kind words to the team.

Once again thank you for taking the time to write, it is greatly appreciated and I do hope it won't be too long before we are welcoming you back again.

With kindest regards,

Ciaran Brazil

Nice hotel, but needs to improve maintenance, especially in the bathrooms. We were staying in room 3012 and our bathroom wasn't even a 3 star hotel level.
The breakfast was very good with big variety and good quality food. The staff was very welcoming.

Dear Alex_2012_Tel Aviv,

Thank you for choosing the Amari Watergate for your recent stay in Bangkok. I was pleased to read that the certain elements of your stay were positive, from the breakfast variety and welcoming staff.

I was sorry to hear about the bathroom in your room not being up to satisfaction. I would like to advise you that we have an enhancement programme currently in place at the hotel, we have completed the Executive Lounge and floors and will be continuing this year and all the bathrooms will eventually be replaced. I know this does not help when it comes to your recent stay but we do recognise the need to keep our product fresh.

Your feedback has been very constructive and helpful, I do hope you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel again where we can show you how good the product will be moving forward.

Yours sincerely,

Ciaran Brazil

Once again interleading rooms for a family was a problem so ended up staying in 2 separate rooms on the same floor i.e. not even next to each other. The hotel is generally clean and neat with great facilities. Cleanliness is an issue e.g. if you go to breakfast you will notice how filthy the carpeted floors are under your table. Not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Had a huge issue with reception staff who would not allow me to exchange money citing a daily limit which varied depending on who you spoke to. Even the manager was clueless about the policy and eventually said it was USD300 per day per room. It seems to be standard in Thailand to clean your room at 5.00PM only - this was really inconvenient but the Novotel in Phuket was excatly the same whilst in Malaysia and Dubai - staff clean your room around 9.00am - which is much more sensible. The location is good and there are nice markets and trendy shops within walking distance. I would stay there again provided they get their cleanliness act together.

Dear Novphu,

Thank you for choosing the Amari Watergate for your recent visit to Bangkok. I was pleased to read that overall you enjoyed your stay with us and in the most part, you would be happy to return.

My sincerest apologies for the issues with your room allocation, do you know if interconnecting rooms was requested in advance?, again I am sorry about the situation with your room being serviced late, the exchange limit and the carpet cleanliness in the restaurant. The hotel has been on full capacity for the last month which keeps our operation on it's toes, and for the most part we are always on top of all these items but unfortunately not in your case which is with deep regret.

I would like to assure you that if you returned, you would find that this was most definetly not a regular pattern and just a one off. We would relish the opportunity to welcome you back to the Amari Watergate and show you how great it can be.

Yours sincerely,

Ciaran Brazil

A very good hotel at a very great location. Highly accessible to the night markets which are around the hotel and the shopping mall right across. The staff are friendly and very accomodating. It was also nice to spend some time just lounging in the hotel lobby as there are two lovely ladies who will serenade the crowd with local instruments. The pool area on the 8th (or was it 6th) floor was lovely as well and lounging in the poolside chairs are really relaxing. Great experience.

There are many great hotels in the world. There is the food, the building design, the quality and comfort of the the rooms, the additional supporting services provided, the location (and Amari Watergate has all these in abundance); but in the final analysis what makes the difference between the great hotels is the service.
This was noticeable right from the late night check in to the departure in the very early morning to catch a 6:00 am international flight. The quality of the service does not vary from the height of the daytime to the wee small hours of the night.
The staff at the Watergate have learned that delicate balance between absolute respect of the guest to being able to welcome you as returning family after we were away for a week. Every staff I encountered from the General Manager and Executive Chef to the housekeeping staff and cleaners take the time to briefly pause what they are doing and very genuinely greet you with smiles and the greeting appropriate to their position. But as a Hotel Management graduate and manager of many years, it was the respect and enjoyment the staff showed to each other when they didn't realize they were being observed, that impressed me that the culture of service was truly authentic.
I have to believe that much of the credit has to go to the General Manager Pierre. He was evident everywhere, from greeting checking-in and hotel function guests in the lobby to restaurants and throughout the hotel. His attention to detail and guest relations very visibly sets the example for management and staff alike.
Visitors to Bangkok who enjoy superb service will definetely enjoy this experience, and business travelers should take notice of what is possible in customer relations.

Room Tip: Stayed in both a superior room and on return on an executive floor. Highly recommend them both. Ad...

Dear Peter J,

What an amazing review! It was fantastic to read, our aim at the hotel is always to ensure our guests have the best experience possible but when you receive that recognition in writing from a guest with such eye for detail and also who comes from the industry, it is high praise indeed!

Mr Pelletier ( Pierre) is a fantastic leader and demonstrates this on a daily basis by leading from the front and making all our guests feel welcome and unique. This most definetly rubs off on the rest of the team. We are a close team here at Amari Watergate and we enjoy what we do and being part of a great team so it is lovely to see that being observed by yourself and hopefully many other guests. I will be sure to pass your wonderful review to all the staff to read.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write and I hope it won't be too long before we are welcoming you back to your "home" in Bangkok.

With kindest regards,

Ciaran Brazil

The new revamped executive lounge was much more refreshing. The open air terrace creates a roof top dining/drinks area - Very inviting. The staff at the executive floor were attentive, friendly and warm. The 34th floor room was fantastic and comfortable. All you need - as a home away from home. The hotel is located next to great shopping complexes and within walking distance to Zen/WTC. Will definitely try to make a trip again here next year. Great hospitality team.

Room Tip: Executive floor is a must!

Thank you for your wonderful review of the hotel. I was delighted to read how much you enjoyed the renovated Executive floors and lounge and especially the terrace which has proved very popular indeed. Most of all it was brilliant to read that we are a home from home, this is the ultimate compliment.

We just completed two stays at Amari Watergate Hotel and were absolutely delighted with our experience. Someone seemed to anticipate our every need and help us through a speedy check-in to offering more water or delicious food. We found the Executive Club floors very worthy of the extra costs as the staff there are first rate. We enjoyed the services of the Spa where staff are very professional and make every effort to accommodate your schedule. We appreciated the cool swimming pool after a busy day of shopping or sight seeing and made use of the tour desk to plan a trip to Attutyia. I look forward to my next stay here.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up were preferred.

Dear Maureen D,

Thank you for your wonderful review of the hotel. I was so pleased to read so many aspects of your stay from the speedy check in, friendliness of the Executive floor staff, the service and professionalism shown at the Spa and of course the tour desk.

It is particularly lovely to see that most of your comments are service related and this we hope is what makes the difference for our customers.

Thank you once again for taking the time to write and we really look forward to welcoming you back to your "home" in Bangkok in the not too distant future.
