“Good service - excellent location - but old style hotel rooms”
Reviewed 10 June 2010

We booked this hotel for our honeymoon for two nights in Bangkok. We had just came back from Pattaya and Bangkok was the last destination of our honeymoon.

We have stayed in many hotels in the past, and moreover we have had experienced two other hotels before, on our same trip to Thailand, so we have atleast some basis to differentiate.

The service was good as you would expect from it being a part of Amari group. The location is excellent, you have a relatively new shopping center in the Petchburi area called Platinum Fashion Mall which is just opposite this hotel. There are many bustling hot markets like Indira market, Patpong night market etc just a short stroll away.

We were slightly disapponted with the hotel rooms. The architecture is an old style with old fashioned furnishings. There are no balcony's to the rooms and no windows that you could open to get some fresh air from outside. We could also see some grout building up between the tiles in the bathroom.

They have an excellent breakfast room, and service was excellent whilst serving breakfast.

There is a spa area but it was very expensive to use. I think about 3000 baht per entry.

So overall I would say it was a good experience staying in this hotel if not spectacular !

We sayed at the Watergate for 03 nights. I have been to Bangkok almost a dozen times, but this is the first time I decided to stay here.. My decision was based on the hotel's location, bang in the heart of the shopping area of Pratunam, with the Platinum Mall just across from the hotel, Big C, Central world and Indra Market all around 10 - 15 min's walk away, with a number of road side stalls along the way.

The hotel itself is trademark Amari, with no faults.
The lobby was beautiful, check-in took us less than 5 minutes.
The room was spacious, comfortable, and well fitted with flat screen tv, tea coffee maker, central aircon, mini bar , etc.
The room was well insulated from the outside noise. The bed was comfortable.
The bathroom was spacious and clean with rubber duckies in near the bath rub.

My only complaint is that we found a large cock roach in the bathroom one day. (???)
We exterminated it and thankfully didnt have to contend with any of its relatives during our stay.

The breakfast was good and spread was extensive. although the menu didnt change much everyday.
We had dinner at Henry J Bean's restaurant, the Tex Mex place at the hotel and tried their steak, which was pretty nice.

The location of the hotel is superb if you wanna shop a lot, come back to the room , rest a while and head out again.
Beats taking the cabs or tuk tuks.
Although this hotel isnt in the same league as Grand Hyatt Erawan or Sherton Sukhumvit, we would definitely stay here again.

Stayed for the first few nights of my honeymoon. The hotel is located right in the middle of a major shopping area, my wife and I shopped till we couldn't shop anymore. The ambiance and staff were top class. Would recommend to everyone!!! It made the trip of a lifetime!!!!

Everytime we are in Bangkok we stay at Amari Watergate. It is just wonderfull. The service is amazing, breakfast even better and the pool is the best.
From the room there is great view and rooms overall are nice and quite big (especially bathroom).
Location is great. You're almost in the middle of everything. Market just behind, shopping mall opposite side of the street and not long from the SkyTrain station.

Stayed 2 nights at Amari Watergate at the end of our Thailand trip
Hotel is great- rooms are big, modern, a bit trendy in style. Poolarea with small garden including childrens section and jacuzzi, very nice changing rooms w sauna etc. Breakfast with good selection of both western, thai and japanese food. Area was perfect for us , a short taxi ride to MBK and Siam Square and not to far away from Sukhumvit(my boyfriend has his favourite Banglafood restaurant there ..). The area just outside the hotel is not as tourist friendly as Silom area (where we have stayed before). We will definetely stay at Amari Watergate again.
