“Excellent location but NO FREE WIFI”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

This hotel is right on the Rachattewi Station of the BTS SkyTrain. This is very easy for getting around to some attractions like Chatuchak with this skytrain system, it costs you about 37 Baht. Lot of shopping malls are just in walking distance, for example MBK, Siam Paragon, Siam Square. You can even walk to Erawan Shrine. The rooms are dated but clean. Breakfast buffet will be nicer if they could offer more choice of food. Staff's service is friendly but slow. NO FREE WIFI is provided from this hotel. You have to buy the WIFI Cards which charged per hour or per day and it is very pricey.

This hotel is very central to all attractions in downtown Bangkok. It is very dated inside but the service is very good. Easy access to the railway line.

The beds are firm. Showers are really hot. Service great. Breakfast buffet is ok but would be nice to change what's on offer everyday. Pools are good.

This hotel is right on the Bangkok Light rail transit system. Excellent for getting around. You can are only one stop from Siam interchange (15 baht) where MBK, and Siam Square are if you like to shop. The rooms are dated but clean. The hotel staff are friendly and nice but they are slow with their service. There was also a lot of noise through the night. Drilling at 7 am! As well as loud noises in the hall when they brought the paper at 3:30 am. I would stay again because of location. But there are much nicer places for the price. We did not eat there as there are too many other good spots in Bangkok.

excellent location for shopping but NO FREE WIFI
you have to buy wifi cards for 1 hour to 2 days but these can only be used in reception and are pricey!!!!
i expect every hotel that i stay in to have WIFI - i stayed in the middle of the jungle in koh chang in a hut with excellent WIFI for a fraction of the price of ASIA hotel.
rooms were basic and clean
check in is sooooo slow
there are plenty of other hotels in the same area that offer a better service

Room Tip: book somewhere else

I returned to Asia Hotel in November having stayed there for a few days ten ago and remembering it as a clean, comfortable hotel. It actually hasn't changed that much and consequently feels a little dated now.

The main draw of the hotel is it's easy transport links. It made for a very easy and comfortable first stop after landing in Bangkok tired, disoriented and more than a little jet-lagged.

The restaurant gets really crowded at breakfast time, even before seven, and much of the buffet is geared towards the large numbers of Chinese guests, although there are cereals, toast, fruit etc. for those who prefer that kind of breakfast. Breakfast wasn't included as I'd got a very cheap booking with Asia Rooms. Unless you have a massive appetite I think it's hard to justify the 300 baht additional for breakfast when there's a 7/11 right outside, not to mention the street vendors who will sell you a freshly prepared mango for 20 baht. So I only had the breakfast buffet once.

The pools are clean and don't seem to get busy. It's a definite bonus to be able to jump in the pool after a hard day's sightseeing or a quick dip before check out.

The room was clean, comfortable and nice and cool. Very expensive wifi might be an issue for some, but for me it felt quite liberating to put my phone away for once. Cafe Mezzo, less than two minutes away, provides wifi for the price of a cup of tea if you need to get online.

For the price I paid I really can't fault Asia hotel for value for money. I look forward to going back, perhaps in another ten years.

Check-in:

We were kept waiting for more than an hour. The staff did give us a drink coupon complimentary. We were disappointed and surprised that Wifi was not provided and we had to pay for it.

Check-out:

Their check-in was slow and inefficient yet they can call you at the immediate moment when it comes to checking out. It almost felt like they couldn't wait a minute more for us to check out.

Room:

We requested for one queen sized bed but was given two twin sized bed merged together simply because it was more convenient as the beds were attached to roller wheels at the bottom.

The housekeeping appears to be done hastily. The room didn't smell pleasant and we resorted to splashing bar soap water around the room. Some of the bathroom toiletries were not replenished on time.

The safe deposit box was not working well in both rooms, we had to call for change of battery and the staff to service it. The safe box failed again the next day. We resorted to using our luggage and own lock for safe deposit.

Staff:

The staff (in general) were unfriendly and even rude. I got dismissed rudely by the staff manning the gym when I came down to check and ask the timing for swimming pool closure. He was more involved in using his phone. He even looked more displeased when I asked him more questions.

Receptionist gave us wrong information regarding the opening hours of gym when we called. We had to call due to absence of facilities guide book in the room.

The staff manning the stand collecting the coupon for breakfast were rude and unhelpful. They raised the voice as if giving commands and they were more focused on collecting your coupon than helping you find seats. We waited for more than10 mins to get seats for breakfast.

The female staff doing fried egg/sunny side up was horrible! She was grumpy and seemingly angry throughout.

Buffet breakfast:

Relatively sumptuous with quite a variety though we waited for quite long for seats. There were other groups of people walking around finding and waiting for seats too. I feel that allocation planning of seats could have been done or at least the staff shouldn't pretend that we didn't exist.

The topping up of food is slow and you could be waiting for a long while for them to finally change the whole pot of coffee to a fresh one or top it up. We gave up having breakfast on later date of the trip.

Location:

The only advantage of this hotel is it's excellent location which access to the main tourist area easily.

Amenities:

The gym and pool is quite well furnished and pleasantly surprised to find cushion covers over the equipment. Was disappointed that the jacuzzi was not working and the health spa was also closed for renovation. We could have been informed with an email before our check in.

Room Tip: Make your requests clearly prior to confirmation of your stay.

So you're flying to Bangkok which depending on you're starting point could be a 20 hour flight with layovers and time change. From the Airport take a cab straight to the Asia Hotel and recoup. They have a roof top pool with a cocktail bar and views of Bangkok. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The Asia Hotel has a great location and tuks tuks are right at your door. If you leave the hotel turn right and right again and you will find yourself in the most interesting food market and vendor stalls. Plan on spending some time there and immerse your self in the Thai culture. If your like me 3 days in Bangkok is enough so head South. Then when you are flying home plan on 2 more days of exploring all of Bangkok.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the market behind the hotel.
