I have long been a fan of the Dusit Thani. Beautiful, quiet, elegant hotel in the middle of chaotic Bangkok. My last trip was a disapointment due to the rooms that are in bad, bad need of a facelift. I complained about the stained carpet, chipped paint etc. and was shown another room that looked nearly as bad.

The food and staff continue to be great, but if rooms aren't updated you are losing my future business.

The Dusit Thani offered a level of service that I had never experienced before. Thailand's tourism industry is still quiet after the political unrest a year or so ago and my travel agent was able to get us a good deal on a club room, with free in-room internet and use of the Club Lounge with hot & cold canapes and an open bar every evening.

For those with mobility issues be warned that the normal rooms do not have a separate shower and it's a high step to get into the bath. For this reason we had to upgrade to a junior suite, at extra cost, but worth it for the extra space an comfort.

The Skytrain station is nearby (maybe 5-10 mins walk, depending on your walking speed in the heat) and the underground is at your doorstep. If you stay here don't miss a morning trip to Lumpini Park to see the wide variety of get-fit activities the locals enjoy there.

The service was superb, as were the Thai & Italian restaurants. The service extended to poolside where the attendant not only gives you your towels but makes up your sun lounger with them.

Highly recommended.

this is the 2nd time we stay there, for all who like to have a different feeeling apart from the more "standard" busines 5 star hotels, this one makes you slow down and relax,
With it's 8 resturant on the porperty, anyone can find something for their taste
(unless you are on a tight budget it is cheaper outside..)
the only slight negative is on the rooms facing closest to Rama 4 road, some traffic noise can be heard early morning, but on the other hand thats also an reason to get up and jump into the pool
and no need to upgrade from standard room to superior, as they are same only difference is the latter is more spacious, with could be an option if you have kid and need a room with extra bed

Be careful of the Dusit Thani's new promotion which offersa "superior" room for Baht 2500 per night. The rooms on offer can only be described as "inferior" meaning tatty and in need of serious refurbishment. So, in order to "upgrade" to a decent room, you are charged another Baht 500 plus 50 tax. A clever ploy and quite disappointing because the Dusit used to have an excellent reputation for quality and service.

Priority treatment from beginning to end. Excellent room. On site facilities faultless. Extremely friendly, polite and helpful staff. Mercedes Limousine service to and from the airport well worth the cost. All tours bookable within the hotel. Sky train and metro right outside. A never ending stream of reasonably priced taxis always available with a maximum wait of about 30 seconds. Plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants, money changers and markets just around the corner. Even a MacDonalds opposite if you rise too late for breakfast.
